Technology developed by an Irish firm that allegedly defies basic laws of physics to produce free power today goes on public display for the first time.

Steorn is challenging worldwide cynicism over its claims to have stumbled upon a revolutionary discovery that creates clean, constant energy and could end the global fuel crisis.

While 22 scientists continue their exhaustive tests on the Orbo technology the inventors are asking the public to come and see a demonstration for themselves at Kinetica Museum, Spitalfields Market, London.

A live working demonstration will be streamed on the internet from 6pm tonight, (04/07/2007). It can be viewed on the web from four different camera angles, before opening to visitors on Thursday.

Sean McCarthy, chief executive of Steorn, said: "What we are showing basically is a very simplified version of the technology. It's virtually all-clear plastic and magnets so we are demonstrating obviously that there is no battery hidden and so on. What the system will be doing is literally lifting a weight, demonstrating work being done for free."

Mr McCarthy said the company decided against using the technology to illuminate a light-bulb because the use of wires would attract further suspicion from a scientific community that has denounced the invention as heretical.

The technology, based on the interaction of magnetic fields, and yet to be conclusively proven or declared a hoax, created a stir after Steorn placed an advertisement in the Economist magazine last year challenging the world's scientists to test its claims.

The company picked 22 of the world's leading scientists from Europe and the US for the review, which started in January and is not expected to be completed before the end of the year.

Mr McCarthy insisted Steorn are contractually obliged to publish whatever the scientists conclude in full, adding that the €8 million invested in the technology to date and the company's reputation were at stake.

"Obviously Steorn and Sean McCarthy would never recover if there is a negative result here. But we don't see that as even an outside possibility," he said.

If this actually pans out the way they are saying it will, it will be the single biggest technological revolution since man figured out how to use fire. This so called "Free Energy" would provide us with a sure fire way to get off the gas addiction and could even allow us to remove some of our hydroelectric dams! No more oil spills in the ocean, no more solar farms that measure in the square miles, no more dams that block up water ways, no more acrage of farms growing plants for ethanol instead of food. It could be an option that makes even nuclear energy production seem wasteful by comparison.

Now that we may have a possible alternative to fossil fuels, let's see how many of our government officials are going to get behind the research.

I know that we are not supposed to post the whole article but, this is one time I have. It is a short article and it seems like a waste of time for someone to click on a linkto read an additional six or seven paragraghs. Besides, if this really works, it will change the way we all get power. Truly an "earth shaking" event.

I see the demostration was being efected by the camera lights , the "STEORM" web site says. The amounts of power they are getting out of thier devices must be minimal to be effected so easly.

They seem to be having difficulties.
I'd like to see the model in operation.
At this moment it appears to be a repulsive device, perhaps similar to one described by one 'fringe' physicist whose nom de plume is Rho Sigma.

Even the smallest of energy gains is a vast step forward. If it really does work, it will be the beginning of a whole new era. Let's say they could only get one volt out of it. 10,000 in a series would be ten thousand volts. At the right amps, that could power a small town. (I'm not an electrician so, my volts, amps and watts are often mixed up). The first steam engines were only good for pumping water out of mines. A generation later, they were reshaping the world.

If it really does wok ike they say it does, I thinkthat somebody somewhere will put this on a fast track and we'll start seeing the goods within twenty years.

Its rather interesting that the demonstration has been canceled. Steorn claims that 8 electrical engineers and physicists, who hold multiple Ph.D's from well respected universities, have validated their technology. Though these 8 people apparently do not exist. The 12 scientist who are acting as the jury to validating this technology, have apparently been met with road block after road block from Steorn.

Its should also be noted that they use a press release to describe their new technology, rather than the accepted standard in science, the peer-reviewed journal. I think Dr. Park,a professor of physics at the University of Maryland sums it up pretty well "Steorn has pitched their claim directly to the media.....to be an important indicator that a scientific claim lies well outside the bounds of rational scientific discourse."

I find it rather odd, that a e-business company, who about dried up during the dot.com bust, has suddenly invented a technology to cure the world's energy problems, along with the technology flagrantly violating the 1st and 2nd laws of thermodynamics.

Apparently, according to McCarthy, it comes down to some high precision watchmaker bearings (not the heat from the cameras) that caused the demo to fail. Apparently, the unit (1 of 3 that they had on the premises prior to the installation of the demo unit) was running with no problems for 4 hrs upstairs of the "museum". Then as they installed it, the bearings "broke". They had replacement bearings there, but apparently they also "broke"

Demo postponed indefinitely, until further notice.

Well. I may be terribly incorrect in my thinking, but it seems to me that if a machine is supposed to be overunity, then it shouldn't be quite so fragile. In other words, if it breaks easily, what good is it? I guess I'll still reserve judgement till I see it in action.

Lets face it, physics would not work, and that is all of physics if energy could be created. It can be transformed but never created. And all these free energy schemes go in the direction of creating energy.

To be able to have energy you must either capture it (wind energy, geo-electrostatic energy, water energy) and transform it by work or you must transform it by chemical processes or both.

There is no such a thing as a free lunch, therefore no free energy.

Well, it looks like it's NOT going to be the next big thing. They are now saying that it has been postponed INDEFFINATELY! Translation: Nothing grows faster than the fish that got away and this one, appears to have gotten away, if it was ever really on the hook at all.
