Wow! This is one of the strangest encounters I've ever read! Easy to blow off as sensationalism, but the fact that in 1989 the TASS ran this story is quite amazing! Not to mention the fact that scientists studied the area and concluded that the depressions in the ground (Corresponding to the rough size and shape of the object witnesses saw) were made by an object weighing 11 tons, along with other 'telltale' signs that something quite unusual had happened.

No, I'm not drawing conclusions, I simply find this a fascinating read. My question is, if something like this were to happen to you, all joking aside, how would you react? If something totally unexpected and unbelievable such as this happened to you, would you stand there dumbfounded? Run away? Think you had gone crazy? Tell no one? lol

Funny thing is, the first newspaper to pick up the story in 89 was the St. Louis Post! LOL Must have missed that issue...

Maybe the correct version of the report should be as thus:

Source: Associated Press, April 1st, 1989

Haha.... Yea, I can't say that I have ever witnessed anything in life that is even remotely odd (Other than the bahvior of my own family... lol), so I guess that is why I ask this question. Not sure how I would respond to something as mind blowing and abnormal as this.

I remember this from when it happened. At the time, the Communists were losing their grip on the old Soviet Union and this story was generally discounted in the West (to the extent it was noticed at all) as an attempt by the Communist powers-that-be to distract Soviet citizens from all the political turmoil. After the Communists lost control of the government even the Soviets weren't interested in the report, which kind of justifies that suspicion.

Then it's really a weird way to attract civilian's interest from the political turmoil. But of course sometimes politicians, intelligence agents and military leaders are naive enough to make up such reports. They have made some such naive mistakes in history, everyone can number one or two.
