RELIGIOUS ARGUMENTS by J Kennedy

Occasionally, The Alabaster Box (meaning me, Joseph Kennedy) receives email commenting on what is written on this page. I am sure that other such web sites receive the same sort of communications. Two of these missives are located on this page via links.

Usually, the writers of these letters are violent and vitriolic. One writer called me a "murderer of the simple." Religious fanatics are dangerous people. One threatened my life. My wife is frightened by letters that come out of nowhere hissing with hate. But "Must (we) be carried to the skies on flow 'ry beds of ease, While others fought to win the prize, And sailed thro' bloody seas?"

I am a teacher of the truth. With unending patience, I will labor to lead a seeker of truth to the Truth. I have no time or patience for religious arguments. People who love religious arguments spend their time attacking their opponents' beliefs without offering anything positive. You can never quite figure out what they believe. They speak of "original Scriptures," but never reveal what these "original Scriptures" are, or where they can be obtained.

Another mark of the religious "arguer" is the unlimited number of words they can produce. It seems that people who have nothing to say say the most. Clouds they are without water. Ever learning and never coming to a knowledge of the truth. Never say anything in fifteen words if you can use twenty. It is in the mass of words that the "arguer" can conceal his lack of substance. The way to Heaven can be expressed in eleven words: "... Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved,..." (Acts 16:31). The truth does not fear the light of intelligence and rationality. Neither does it fear the short, to-the-point sentence.

Another mark of the religious "arguer" is the great number of Scripture passages they use. They condemn the 1611 King James Bible, yet use the NIV without hesitation. Do they think the NIV is the "original Scriptures?" It is a strange inigma that people can have a great store of Scripture verses in their head and none in their heart. The Word of God does not produce malice, hostility, threats, and rudeness. The fruit of the Spirit are listed in Galatians 5:22,23: "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,"23 "Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law."

A religion can be judged by its fruit. One of the causes of poverty in the world is religion. North America and South America went seperate ways because South America fell under the religious heel of the oppressive church at Rome. North America (minus Latin America) was blessed with Christianity. Islam produces bloody nations that cannot function in the world. Communism is an atheistic religion that brutalizes its people in order to keep the rulers rich. America and her freedoms, freedoms that non-Christians abuse, are the product of Christians.

Religion is anathema to the Christian, because it is the works of the flesh which God hates the most. The word "Christian" does not take in all the godless cults in America. The spiritual state of America is too complex for people to discuss, who don't understand the difference in faith in God, and the mindless cults that pollute this nation.

My testimony as a child of God is that I love the souls of man. It is easy for me to rejoice that people have fine children and other good things - even unbelievers. My heart aches when I think of people in the world who suffer. When I see sound Christian families in my church with their well balanced children - people who are totally free from the oppression and bondage of religion, it motivates me to work even harder to make known to the world the source of these good things - the Lord God Creator Who died on Calvary's altar cross for the sin of the world. The solution to all the world's problems are given in His Word, the 1611 King James Bible.

lovely, true and a very wise article with alot to say.
But there are also countries who's populations are almost completely atheist or agnostic who in my opinion are the"best functioning" countries. Such as Scandinavia, some western european countries. They are economically, ethically, socially, educationally etc. very good.
Just my observation.
There are very many negative problems in the USA despite it being a christian nation.

hmm.gif I don't think I think much of this guy. The US was founded by people who were escaping religious Christian tyranny. Although in the case of Puritans they were all but kicked out of England because they were a pain in the a**. The founding fathers didn't set up a Christian country. They knew better. They knew Government by religion didn't work because they had lived under such governments. They founded a secular form of government were everyone was free to follow their own faith. I think there are a lot of negative draw backs to the US because people are trying to make it a Christian nation when it is not. There is not cross on the Capital Dome it is the Statue of Freedom and nothing to do with religion.

Great article fully. Dark, I think you need to re-read he article, because your point actually agreed with the article... you wrote about "religious Christianity" and who those who came here were escaping it. The author also spoke about how religion, including "Christian" religion is actually a problem and not what God seeks of His followers.

This man wrote well. It is the heart of the believer that indicates who he/she follows. We know Christ's words. Yet many see it fit to blame Christ for the shortcomings of those that came in His name. Yet if they knew Christ's words, then they would know that those shortcomings were done out of the selfishness of the heart of those men and women and not out of the teachings of Christ. This selfishness will war with God's Spirit over their hearts as it does in yours and mine.
