I happened by Unexplained Mysteries just the other day and have been considering becoming a member, so it looks like I've taken the plunge. Some of the postings are intriguing and there look to be some intelligent and decent people here, so I hope to enjoy my stay.
My main interest is ancient Egypt. I've studied Egypt for the past twenty years and numerous other cultures of the Near East for about the past ten years. I am a docent at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago and also at the Oriental Institute, on the campus of the University of Chicago. My main emphasis of study is Egyptian death and burial, and hieroglyphs (although many other facets of the culture appeal to me). I am by no means an Egyptologist but I enjoy discussing ancient Egypt and its neighboring cultures, and debating its many thorny mysteries. I am a Moderator for one popular Egypt forum and an active poster at another, so by joining Unexplained Mysteries I hope I'm not stretching myself too thin.
I see there are quite a few people who foster alternative theories at Unexplained Mysteries, and that's all right. It fits in with the theme of this forum. But I've studied ancient history long enough that I am a firm proponent of orthodox and conventional theory as supported by extant evidence. That is the perspective from which I'll probably frame most of my own posts and arguments, so I'm hoping I won't be stomping on too many toes here.
In any case I look forward to meeting many of you and to be sharing in lively and engaging discussions. A great day to everyone at Unexplained Mysteries.
