Concord, N.H. - Visitors to New Hampshire's Rockingham Park witnessed an unusual event last week as a wild deer decided to become a last-second addition to a horse race.
The deer leapt onto the track during one of the park's daily races and waited for its turn to join its four-legged brethren in the race Sunday.
Witnesses said after landing on the track, the deer seemed to wait for the horses to round one of the turns and then took off in pursuit.
Workers at the park in Salem, N.H., attempted to catch the unwanted racer, but the elusive animal continued to make use of its natural speed.
Before park officials could gather in the animal, it made its escape into some nearby woods.
