Full Version: McDonald's ketchup contains chemicals

There is a chemical in McDonalds ketchup packets (not in the ketchup that you pump out of the big jars) that reacts with chemicals found in Burger King hamburgers and causes the meat to taste rancid and spoiled and smell awful.

Burger King responded and extended their attack into their Sweet & sour sauce, Mustard and Ketchup.

McDonalds also escalated its chemical warfare and now every pre-packaged sauce from both McDonalds and Burger King contains chemicals that react with the food from the other chain.

This has been going on for several years. There is a constant burger war going on where McDonalds and Burger King constantly try to change their burger's composition to render them safe against the other's sauces.

It makes me angry to know that we are eating this!

I've made the mistake of using a ketchup packet from McDonalds on a Burger King cheeseburger and I had to throw it away after only one bite!

My ex-wife's used to work for Sandoz pharmaceuticals in Palo Alto, CA and she heard from a coworker there that one of the project teams were doing that sort of work.

amen, you seen supersize me?
absolutely disgusting. Apparently there are chemicals
in the food at mcdonalds that react to your brain and triggers
your body to CRAVE and NEED mcdonalds.

Thank you Ray Kroc. [<--sarcasm intended]

So if i would make a burger myself would these chemicals still work tongue.gif ? not saying that i eat them tongue.gif

You make it sound like a conspiracy. Sugars and fats are known to be addictive, junk food has plenty of both. It's not as if they purposely add chemicals to the food to induce an addiction.

In developed countries we all have a choice in what foods we eat. And there wouldn't be 300 pound people walking around if they stopped eating addictive junk food.

What is my excuse then? 160lbs, 6 foot tall and athletic body definition. Cholesterol level is normal as is blood pressure and BMI, yet all I eat is junk food and takeaways. Do I do a lot of exercise? Not any more than the average person does. I did try to eat so called healthy foods, yet ended up putting on a stone (14 pounds) in 10 days and felt lethargic and ill. Back on the junk food again, and I was back to my normal self and lost he 14 pounds I put on in 6 days.

Eating unhealthy foods never did our grandparents any harm and they live to ripe old ages, yet fitness and health food "freaks" are dying younger than their parents or grandparents.

Then stop eating Mcdonalds and Burger King, simple as that.

If this is accurate, which I'm not convinced it is, it's sheer genius.

I stopped eating fast food a long time ago. This topic points out just one of the many reasons I quit it. There's also the fact that I found hair in every other order I've made at a fast food joint.

It's true. My local news station once did a report about it.

I don't fast food often but it tastes good. I only eat B-King about maybe 5 times in a year cause I don't feel like walking down to Burger King. bounce.gif

This doesn't make sense! Does this means that the supposedly fresh burgers have like some kind of unique chemical constitution that can be detected by a package of ketchup? sounds like fiction!

Does anyone remember the UL about Chinese take-outs putting morphine in the food to make you crave it? Yeah, one small take-out might have done that in the 1960's or something but, as far as I know it's unsubstanciated.

Every fast food chain does millions of dollars of R&D on a product before they start offering it. Part of that is finding out what kinds of sauces go well with thier products. They may have the manufacturer add a little more vinegar to their ketchup to spice it up or maybe even lemon flavoring in the mayo. It stands to reason that they are not the least bit interested in what their mustard tastes like on a competetors food. Maybe that is where this got it's start. It also explains why Dairy Queen doesn't offer a ketsup and peanut flavored ice cream sundae.

And they use US, the public, as guinea pigs. I dunno what it is, but I used to love McDonalds. Then I tried Burger King and haven't been back to McDonalds since. But then, has anyone noticed how much greasier KFC is compared to 20 years ago? Another fast food outlet that has 'changed with the times' unfortunately, in my opinion, for the worse. I can't even eat their chicken peices without throwing up 15 minutes later. Luckily here in Melbourne we have several other chicken fast food outlets that don't even have 50% of KFC's fat.

I eat home made burgers with HP sauce. I could careless about their crap burgers.

Anyone Know what these are?

tertiary butylhydroquinone *(TBHQ) - sodium acid pyrophosphate, sodium aluminum phosphate, monocalcium phosphate, calcium lactate, hydrogenated vegetable oils (that is to say, trans fats), and dimethylpolysiloxane - acrylamide.

Neither did I till i looked them up.

Sounds like exactly what you want in your food, doesn't it?

MacNuggets & Fries Anyone?...

What's Really in a McDonald's Chicken McNugget & Fries?

I should have mentioned that tertiary-butylhydroquinone (TBHQ) apart from causing stomach tumors it also caused DNA damage in lab animals. A number of studies have also shown that TBHQ can be carcinogenic with prolonged exposure...golly gee that dosn't sound MacGood.

Some people have a high tolerance for fatty foods, and have naturally low cholesterol, regardless of what they eat, most likely due to genetics... however they don't represent the average human. The overwhelming medical evidence links eating saturated fatty acids to heart and artery conditions, there may also be some evidence for trans fats accelarating the formation of plaque.

well don't jump to conclusions... I'm no fan of mc'ds, although TBHQ is known to cause tumors in extremely high doses.... in very low concentrations (which is what mc'd by law has to comply to) it can aid preventing cancers, because of TBHQs antioxidant capability crying.gif

not prolonged exposure in low concentrations, the studies i read link exposure in high concentrations for tumors...

but even if TBHQ isn't responsible.... I'm sure you could find another chemical that would be..... take your pick from the many thousands

and even if you can't, plenty of folks are being killed off with infarctions as a result of consuming too much fatty foods.

You must be kidding, because that's absurd. The only chemicals in your food is from the stuff coming from China.

BTW, Burger King is way better than "Hock-donalds". BK is flame broiled and made while you wait.

Exposure in high concentrations for tumors but safe @ prolonged 'low exposure'...yea maybe but as i posted earlier, 100s of millions especially 'children' live and breath MacCrap everyday some even more than three times a day(maybe ma & pa's cooking sux)

I wonder if the body releases these chemicals over time or does it just absorb and build up over the years?

Lets just say for the sake of argument that on it's own TBHQ is relatively safe...What about combined with the other 7 chemicals found in MacSluggets & MacFlies?

sodium acid pyrophosphate - sodium aluminum phosphate - monocalcium phosphate - calcium lactate - dimethylpolysiloxane - acrylamide.

Ok, I wont argue specifics on each chemical here r2, we could be here till Xmas...I'm in kind of a hurry anyway, my sons have a MacBirthday party to attend at MacDonalds with Ronald & friends. LOL!

All I care to add here: I personally don't eat any of this stuff (fast food). Frankly, I wouldn't even feed it to my dogs (let alone my kids).

My advice to everyone is to eat food that offers you some real nutrition. It's not really all that difficult to do either. Stick to whole grains (not the white processed stuff), eat your fruits and veggies (yep, Gramma was right!), have lean meats (if you're inclined to eat meat) chicken and fish, use oils that aren't hydrogenated/no trans fatty acids (olive and canola are good), choose dairy foods that are the low fat variety. It's really pretty easy to do and it's well worth the little bit of effort.
Raptor
I agree with what Lilly wrote, although I think people are too quick to start calling junk food a "plague".

Really, there's no harm in having a bit of junk food once in a while. Just don't substitute it for real food, and you'll be fine. happy.gif

I could hardly agree more. I eat at McDonald's every once in a while, but it's really just once every several months that I have an actual, entire meal there. Although I do get just hamburgers, or something to drink, or an ice-cream or something there, but I still don't do that often.
But I happen to actually *like* their food (go ahead, say I've got bad taste, that it's not good for me, that I should try and eat snails or something, because it's proper 'cuisine'), and although I know it's bad, I could hardly care less, because I almost always eat healthy. It's not healthy to only eat healthy. Eat junk! Appreciate healthy stuff more! Woooohooo!

*ahem*

Anyway... everything at McDo's is made out of junk, and I think everyone knows it by now. Same goes for Burger King, really. And for, basically, all those other junk food restaurants out there. And yes, it contains chemicals. And yes, its bad. And no, we should not eat it. But those people that are killing themselves by eating this everyday: well, no offence, but it's their own bloody fault, isn't it? Even if McDo were more healthy and less chemical, it still would not be good to eat there everyday. You'd not get enough different nutritions, because of eating the same stuff day in day out. But who are we to judge them? Or judge McDo's, or any restaurant, for it? It's the customers fault, not the restaurants.

Oh, and chemical-licker: f*ck off with your 'low-class scum'. I don't know what it's like where you live, but I know over here *everyone* visits McDo's. And I do mean, everyone. I know people that are, literally, rich, and they go to these restaurant chains. And I also know people who don't have much money to spend, and lots of people in between, and they all go to these places. Are you calling me an 'unevolved monkey', just for eating at a certain place? That's just stupid. Utterly insane.

Oh absolutely correct, if you have just a little bit of junk here and there it's not going to really hurt you. It only becomes problematic when the junk food is the main type of food consumed.

However, a *good* hamburger just tastes so much better. Let me describe my idea of a *real* hamburger to you: Start with 90% lean all Black Angus meat (hormone/chemical free), grill it over some mesquite chips, place the juicy morsel on a whole wheat bun complete with a slice of Bermuda onion/Beefsteak tomato and a slice of real Vermont chedder cheese....oh, and don't forget some of my special homemade tomato/sweet pickle relish. Any junk food burger simply can't even come close!

MacDonald's and other fast food used to taste good. Either my taste has changed or thier processed crap is... Crap.

An old friend used to love KFC, now he can't stand it. Something of the way they used to cook the chicken... steamer pressure or something?

I don't know about the ketchup? I always like my fries w/o ketchup. But my kids do and so i'll just used the pump out container for now on.

I'm not sure if anyone has stated this yet but a major reason why metabolism is slow and why this concerns Take-Out food is because of what you put into your body such as;

- poisons or toxins which include nonprescription drugs and prescription
- chemical residue used in the growing of food
- arificial food additives used by manufacturers
- toxins in our water supply, primarily chlorine and flouride.

Even their soda and fountain machines use a low grade filtering service straight from the tap. Not that I believe that to be a huge problem, but every bit counts I guess, when it comes to take-out and your health on the matter.

MacMedical Problems:

McDonald's actions have caused anger and concern among patrons on gluten-free diets. More than 2 million Americans suffer from celiac disease, an autoimmune disorder triggered by wheat gluten.

Lying About Fries:
This is not the first time McDonald's has been shown to be less than honest about the content of its fries. In 2002, the company paid $10 million for a lawsuit when it was revealed that the fries, which McDonald's had claimed were cooked in pure vegetable oil, actually used an oil containing beef flavoring.

Last February, McDonald's paid $8.5 million in a similar lawsuit after the company indefinitely delayed its promise to switch to a healthier cooking oil.

McDonald's fries from a health standpoint, all the chemicals contained in a single French fry may be more harmful to you than smoking a cigarette, which is why fries made my list of the five worst foods you could possibly eat.

The average American has four orders of fries a week.
Does McDonald's Have Any Other Health-Harming Secrets They Need to Share? By Dr. Mercola February 14, 2006

===================================================

Fast food chicken contains cancer-causing chemicals; warning labels sought:
"Fast food giants are just like every other arm of big business: They want to maximize profits regardless of consumer safety," he said. "Researching alternatives to preparing chicken with this cancer-causing ingredient might affect their bottom line by a few cents, so of course they don't want to do it.

"Grilled chicken can cause cancer, and consumers deserve to know that this supposedly healthy product is actually just as bad for them as high-fat fried chicken," said PCRM President Neal Barnard, M.D. "Even a grilled chicken salad increases the risk of breast cancer, prostate cancer, and other forms of this lethal disease."

It adds that the federal government officially recognized HCA as a carcinogen in 2005, and PhIPm specifically has been named on the California governor's list of chemicals known to cause cancer for more than ten years.

I'm confused...is this not true?
As you posted it in this section, "Urban Legends" which means stuff that people make up and continuously passes around as a rumour..
Of course, I imagine there are chemicals in that $h!+ they sell but is this article an urban legend or is it true?!

I"ve eaten Mc Ds, & Burger Kings. With either, i find that i"m hungry about 1 hour after eating. It"s just a quick fix. It"s quite rare that i eat at those places. I find it annoying that they call those places "restaurants". NO WAY are those places restaurants !
At home, we tend to cook our own food. A bit old fashioned, maybe, but us & our kids enjoy what we eat. We eat meat (Humans are designed for this, with inssisor teeth & so forth), also, i was a butcher for approx 8 yrs. We also eat sallads & pasta meals.
I guess the answer is to balance things out. Dont live solely on junk food, & dont starve yourself either.Eat a balanced diet & appreciate the beautiful flavour of various foods. Oh, the thread, i"ll eat both in moderation. They both taste "ok", but , c"mon, its not good , real, decent food is it ? Have fun inventing your own, experiment whilst cooking! yes.gif
