a constant barking dog tied to the fence on a 6 ft lead under my bedroom window while I was recovering from brain surgery. I had asked the neighbors over and over to keep the dog in. eventually I called the humane society that removed the dog for neglect. it isn't as bad as other posts , but the noise wasn't just irritating but painful.

My grandmother would say the worst neighbor she had ( who was moved 2 years ago ) was another old lady . They had known each other for over 40 years as neighbors and have disliked each other for 35 of them. They fought constantly. calling each other crazy. ( rumor is Mary years ago developed a crush on my grandfather who spurned her when grandma found out) when my Gran was about 75 had come home from church one morning , parking the car in the garage. Mary who had been watering her flowers after a few words back and forth decided to hose down Gran. lol

Gran had a cat that would relieve itself in Marys front flower bed. Mary would then pick out the matter and throw it on our driveway. My Gran later would see it and throw it on he porch. this continued until my Gran was in her late 70's.

both are nuts.

I'm sorry but I laughed really hard at this one!!! Oh no is that bad of me? laugh.gif

I like all of my neighbors. Most of them are original owners in my development so they're really old. My mom lives next to me and my Aunt 3 doors down from my mom. LMAO.

Across the street from me is a big field and lots of people brings their dogs up to run and play, which is cool.

My immediate neighbor (he's about 80 and his wife passed years ago) well he just married this 65-year-old lady. She's been a bit of a thorn in my side.

She hates dogs. I have 2 and I used to watch/dogsit one other for a friend during the day. She moved in (it's been about 18 months now) and she hates all the people who come to walk their dogs on the big field.

One day she came over to tell me that she put rat poison all around her house (politely telling me) so my dogs wouldn't eat it and die. She didn't tell ANY of the people who come with their dogs. So, I sat out front most of that morning and told them all as they came about the poison and to keep their dogs away from her yard. We have a Yahoo listserv for our "dog group" so I posted it there first (I wanted to make sure I caught the morning people in case they hadn't read their emails yet).

But isn't that rude?

We've ALL been here; some 40+ years and she comes in throwing rat poison everywhere. UGH.

Ok rant over. I feel better now. Thanks original.gif Jody

This infuriates me. This is more than just rude - it is downright heartless, selfish and mean.
I do not own dogs(live in an apt) but I have two cats which I have had for several years and they are like my children and it is because of horrible people like this they do not go outside. Someones pet or just an innocent animal could eat this and die a horrible death for no reason and could devestate someone. I would be devestated is something like this happened to one of my pets.
The fact that someone would be willing to kill an animal just because they come onto their lawn makes me sick. People who are cruel to animals have something seriously wrong with them and/or they are so egotistical they can't imagine having a relationship with a lowly animal speciman.

Years ago someone, we never found out who it was, shot all three of grandmother's dogs while they hanging out in their FENCED-IN backyard. They probably had no idea the heartache they caused - my grandma and grandpa were beside themselves, (could you imagine coming home and finding that), and all of us grandchildren were so sad, that was the first time I had to deal with death in any capacity.

It's things like this that make me thankful that my closest neighbor is about a mile away. Geez.

The guy a floor above me has some problem with sound. He wakes us up with his piano or tv sometimes. I mean, not annoying loud, but loud enough to hear with headphones and really loud metal music. At one point, this happened a lot, but it's over now.

The old neighbor that my family used to live in. We sold out house because my mom fall in love with other house. But someone else brought our house. And the next door neighbor won't cut their lawn & let their dog do his "business" on our old house lawn! What rude people really. At least that's what my mom says.

I live in a subdivision with a bunch of rich people. My rich neighbor next door hates that we have three cars in our driveway boohoo! Our other neighbor calls us "cheap" because my brother is driving an old beater that he bought himself (and pays car insurance himself). Practically every neighbor in this subdivision has bought their children brand new cars. They all have extremely high paying jobs that they acquired from family. And we are the talk of the subdivision because of our "cheapness." At least you don't live next to a bunch of spoiled upper class people.

I live above the meanest couple to ever draw breath. I live in a conservative, well off area... quiet and outwardly respectable. But these maroons have broken into our flat twice, have tried to blackmail us, have driven over our tools, have driven at my husband and myself. They've tried to get us arrested, poisoned our garden, banged on their ceiling beneath us for hours throughout the night, made threatening 'phone calls, thrown rubbish all over our drive.

Luckily we managed to get them tied up like kippers legally, and they have to leave us alone now... but if they weren't legally in a corner they'd still be doing what they do best, harassing us day and night.

Oh, and these people are now around 80 years old. And the reason they behave like this? Because they can. blink.gif

Bahahaha....80??? No way...

I'm not half that and I got exhausted just reading what they were doing to you!! That's just absurd. At least my 80 -year-old's don't have that much juice in them to do that sort of stuff to me. laugh.gif

Athena22.... I know exactly how you feel.

I live in a very nice nieghborhood... it's the neighboordhood I grew up in.

My place is a little square, not much exterior personality, post WWII bungalow. The neighborhood used to be full of houes like mine, the oldest being over 100 years old, the newest ones were build in the early '60's.

This area has become so desireable that even the newer 1960's builds are being flattened and million dollar homes are going in in their places. In the last year, the two houses on either side of me have sold and there are going to be 1.3 million dollar homes going in, and the two behind me (which will share an easement driveway with me) are going to be going to for about the same. The home directly behind me was built in 1984 but it's being torn down (it's a NICE house too).

So, within the next year, I will be surrounded, quite literally by million+ dollar mansions. I have no doubt that my new neighbors will look down on me. The funny part? I probably have as much money as they do, but they won't perceive it that way. It remains to be seen how I'll be treated. But I'm not selling this place, I LOVE this little tiny boxy house. I've owned a million dollar house, I don't ever want another one, no WAY.

Unfortunately, there is a small possibility I could be forced to sell whether I want to or not. That's what sucks. There's some law on the books that builders can use for "urban improvement" or some such thing, that says if the neighborhood is being developed in one way, the city can force you out. I know one family not too far from me (but in another city) who had this happen to them. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed. If I'm forced out of this place, I could be forced into purchasing a million dollar property again if I want to stay in the area because if I don't... the government will SLAM me with capital gains tax penalties. It's a quandry for sure.

They've got plenty of juice left in them... pair of old fruits laugh.gif

We had scaffolding up this week for repair work to the roof. The old man didn't like it being where it was so he started ranting at the builders... having a tantrum. There he was, a string bean you could blow over, waving his fists at men who were six feet tall and built like... well... you can imagine how big they were.

He's not averse to chasing the postman either. laugh.gif

My "neighbors from hell" just moved in a few weeks ago. They play their rap music to the volume where people 5 blocks away can hear it. They come outside and discuss their relationship issues, and by that I mean stuff like. "That b**** dun' got me pregnant again!" And their children just sit outside all day playing basketball. What's wrong with this you ask? "N***a, I told you to pass me that motherf***in ball!" "Gimme that sh** n***a!" It truely is hell.
FrankBlunt
A while back, I was watching Jeopardy in my apartment and was met with an exclamatory remark upon questioning one of the answers. The category was "One letter different", and the clue was "A mallard's playing cards."

Upon asking "Duck deck?" at an unimposing conversational volume, my neighbor directly to the south shouted, "Shut up!"

I'm a student of human behavior, and I was struck by an amusing realization. First, it's not terribly odd for people to answer Jeopardy clues aloud, even while alone. Therapists are welcome to argue that it's odd, but "terribly odd" is out of the question.

Second, and most important, had I been accompanied by another, the neighbor wouldn't have said anything. He was shouting at me for being alone, essentially. Am I the neighbor from Hell, or is he? He has the wife and baby in a heavily Christian community, so it's probably me.

Shouting out an answer to jeopardy doesn,t make you a neighbor from hell and living in a neiborhood with people who call themselves Christians doesn,t give them an excuse to be nasty! They can just as easily be the neighbor from hell same as anyone else!

Hi, swtp,

It's not a big deal. Anyway, I think the methamphetamine lab technician in my complex takes the cake: not much of a story to tell, though.
Isis2200

I was kinda reluctant to post this story, but I guess I'll go ahead and post it.

About 5 years ago I lived in a very large apartment complex. I had a neighbor move into the unit next to mine, and from day one he began to bang. I'm not talking about your ordinary banging. This was very loud and sometimes went on all day and night. One early morning around 2:30 a.m. I heard some banging out in the parking lot. I got up and looked, only to see this same neighbor with a hammer busting something up in the parking lot.

ok I ignored that incident, but later the banging got so loud on the walls in his unit, that I called the police. The police came out and had a talk with him. After that, he continued with the banging but that's not all. I usually kept my blinds open in my bedroom because there was only a small walkway outside the window. Noone could see anything unless they came right up to the window. I was taking a shower one day, put on a slip, and walked out of the bathroom to hear someone tapping on the window. I turned to see him with his face pressed up against the window. He had a smirk on his face as he was tapping on the window.

The following day I sure kept my blinds open, but this time I put a nice warning device on my bed. I had an unloaded shotgun for protection, and put that on my bed so he could see that next time he decided to peek through my window.

Ok, it doesn't stop there though. He parked his car outside in the parking lot pointed directly at my unit and used to go out there and just sit in his car for hours at a time. Luckily, when I had to leave my apartment, I'd make sure there were other witnesses out there. One day, I heard some noise outside on the balcony area, so I went out there and saw him push his couch over his balcony into the creek. A few days later, he pushed his 10-speed bike over the railing into the creek.

I was out there one day just sitting on my balcony, and although he couldn't see me, he came out there and mumbled something like "F***ing b****, I'll kick your A**. After that day, I called the police, the manager, and several other offices trying to get this guy permanently removed from here, but I got absolutely no help from anyone. After that day, I really lost faith in our system.....in those people who are supposed to be here to protect us. The only thing the police did or told me when all this started is "Make sure to keep your blinds closed in the future." mad.gif

I began to call to find out how I could get a concealed weapons permit, but before I got a chance to follow up on that, the guy was finally evicted "for failure to pay rent". One day after he moved out, I stepped inside his apartment and found a huge hole in the wall about the size of two basketballs. If the manager had listened to me when I first reported the banging, this may not have happened. mellow.gif

Isis,

I couldn't help but notice the location on your profile. I lived in Oregon for a brief time, and it has the most pathetic pro-offender / anti-victim eviction laws I've ever encountered. On the low end of the scale compared to your ordeal, residents who have violated noise disturbance regulations three times, for instance, are "evicted", but they are given a period of time (Two weeks if memory serves) to "make things right" under Oregon statutes. This reverses the eviction, assuming that there are no further confirmed reports within that frame of time.

No offense to bleeding hearts, but this is the perversion of justice that occurs when liberalism and socialism take the helm in legislation.

Oregon's policies in obtaining a concealed weapon permit are a joke. You're required to attend the firearm safety course prior to learning whether or not you're eligible through the application process. Never mind the fees paid to county, state, and federal agencies for administrative costs; if you're already in the heat of a crisis, it's too late.

Hi Frank,

Yes, I know you can feel for what I had to go through. I'm just so disillusioned by all this. I am a law-abiding citizen, have never broken the law, and the only thing I ever got was one parking ticket because I parked outside the lines. I have such a lack of respect for police and their policy. I even had to see a therapist because of this ordeal. I was told by the police that "he has a right to look in any window he wanted because it is a public walkway." I was appalled at the police's response in this matter. An advocate through crisis intevention even called the police to talk to them about their statement, and they told him they NEVER SAID THAT!! crying.gif

I called the Housing Authority, I called Police non-emergency, and police Crime Prevention Unit and was told there was nothing they could do. Their only response was "Well, if he does something, call the police". My friends and I agreed that by the time he "did something" it could've been too late.

I think for some reason I survived this ordeal. Someone up there still wants me around because I'll tell you the truth, Frank, my front door was about 15 feet away from his door. It's a miracle I wasn't severely harmed or killed. mellow.gif

I majored in Criminal Justice in CA, and I would hope similar laws hold true in OR in regard to voyeurism. If someone makes a notice of him/herself by waving or making loud noise from within a residence, glancing quickly from the exterior is not a violation of the law because that's a reflex. It is, however, unlawful to continue peering into the residence following the reflex action.

I'd learned from the County Sheriff's Dept. that the upstairs neighbors I'd reported for multiple noise disturbances had an attempted murder complaint filed within a month after I moved in. This complex wasn't in the skids, but it was 3 or 4 men sharing a small studio apartment, so they weren't within the income range of the average neighbors.

It's amazing how I've found the fewest problems in areas where everyone seems to expect high crime rates.

Luckily you survived that dreadful living environment.

That sucks, Isis. What a total jerk!

That must have been a big hole. Was it repaired?

Isis, your story proves that just because we have a legal system it doesn,t mean you,ll receive any justice! Back in 1981 we lived in a burb just outside of Vancouver B.C. my daughter was only two at the time and i had my mom living with us,we had some annoying neighbors that we just tried to ignore.Well there came a time when the guys brother who had been in jail was released and he came to live with them, one night my hubby was working and my mom had gone up to bed and i had put my daughter to sleep when there was a knock at the door ,it was this guy and he said he needed to talk to me about something in the drive way.I told him it was late and he should talk to me in the morning(i said this through the door without opening it)I guess that made him angry and he started banging really hard and yelling,so i called police and told them, the cops told me just to open the door and talk to him and he,d probably be happy and go back next door. So thats what i did and he pushed his way in and held a knife to my throat for two hours, as it turned out he had multiple personality disorder or something and he,d been sniffing glue and drinking, during those two hours he changed personalities about nine times, one of which he told me he was Jesus and was here to take me and my daughter out of this evil world! Up till then i had just kept him talking while i ltried to figure a way out of this, but when he started talking about killing my baby that just set me into a whole different mode of dealing with him and i struggled ,got free ,ran for the phone but he got there first and ripped it out of the wall, he threw me up against a wall and had the knife ready to slit my throat, and thankfully my mom heard the noise of us struggling(she,s hard of hearing and was upstairs)i guess we got pretty loud and i was screaming angrily at him by this point, and when my mom walked into the front room where this was going on it was as if he,d forgotten that she was in the house so it threw him off and he took off out the door!We called the police and when they got there the one cop asks me why did i open the door to him? I told him cause you guys said i should, that he would then say what he had to say and go home! The cop gave me one of those Ya right lady looks, like i was lying! They caught the guy finally up near the Okanogon, but not before he,d killed two people! And when they searched his room in the house next door they found five boxes of tape recordings and strande poems and pictures he had put togeather all about me! They put him back in jail for the two murders, but he was never charged for attacking me or for holding me at knife point and threatening my childs life or mine! It took me years to put that behind me!

I spent most of my childhood on a large farm in a beautiful old house. However, we did have a neighbor directly across the street from us. They had 6 kids, and the entire family was on welfare, but the husband would work on the side and not report it to the Welfare office. He also drank, beat his wife and kids, and had porn all around the house (out in the open).

Now, two of the girls were my age, and they became my playmates. If my mom knew what I saw in that house, she would have had a fit and never let me over there again! Of course, I wasn't going to tell her. innocent.gif

The house had a huge hole in the floor of the kitchen (at least 7 feet around) that the father would just lay plywood over because he was too lazy to fix it. You could see through some of the bedrooms because the plaster had fallen off and he wouldn't repair it.

They didn't have a phone, so being good neighbors, we told them they could use ours for emergencies. So, of course, we started getting all their phone calls, emergency or not, and I would have to run across the street to get one of them to answer the phone. I remember one night that I ran to their house to tell them about a call, and I ran into a dead raccoon hanging from their porch. He had just gone hunting and thought it was a good place to drain the animal. It was strange, too, because they had a raccoon for a pet. I was dripping in blood. Yuck.

We started having trouble with our cars, tractors and lawnmowers losing gas. We knew someone was siphoning it off, but we didn't know who. One night, my mom had her bedroom window open, and she saw our neighbor in the moonlight walk across the street and into our driveway with a gas can and a hose. She said, "Hey--what are you doing?" He just laughed, shrugged, and said, "Just getting some gas." She told him he better start finding another way of getting gas, and quick.

When his wife was diagnosed with cancer, he started courting my sister, who lived down the road from us. His wife wasn't even in the grave, yet. My sister couldn't get rid of him. He wasn't the ideal catch, anyway--he had only two teeth left and he reeked of body odor. He finally gave up when she got herself a boyfriend.

Funny thing was that his wife out-lived him. He got killed while driving drunk. He crossed the center line and hit a telephone pole on the other side. Actually, it was a blessing for his family, God rest his soul.

Now, I work for a city, and I hear a lot of strange things. We have one person who must be a neighbor from hell. We keep getting calls from her neighbors because she keeps watering the lawn. There is no grass left, only mud. She's watering mud. She does it in the nude. She's in her 70's.

She has caused root rot to her neighbor's fences, houses and garages. The mosquitoes are terrible because of the water. Her neighbors have little kids, and they are concerned with West Nile and the nudity--and the damage to their property. Once, her neighbor reported her, and they she started actually putting the water hose over her fence into the neighbors yard while the neighbor was at work.

She's very clever, and usually disappears when the cops show up. She has been arrested, though. She is not in her right mind, but she is not completely crazy, either. Her family has disowned her and want nothing to do with her. It's very sad, really--and hell for her neighbors. No one wants to commit her (no judge) because her family are big wigs in town (in the medical field, no less). It's very tragic.

And thats the thanks you get for helping your neighbor, they steal from you! And the husband sounds like a real charmer (gross) your poor sister! As for the old lady it,s clear she,s suffering some kind of dementia,it,s so sad that someone can,t do anything! of course her family could but chooses not to, they should be ashamed of themselves!

Geesh, that's quite an experience! Was it a cop you spoke to who told you to let the guy in, or the police dispatcher? Sometimes those people taking the calls aren't properly trained, but that's no excuse for that completely stupid advice!

I'm glad you've found a way of putting that behind you. Thank God he didn't hurt you!

My husband is a builder and just put up four houses, one of which we moved into...To write about the neighbors in the back of us would take up a few hours....so after reading all the posts, I would take the worse thing a neighbor has done out of each one and that would be my story...All except She-ra's rat poison with the dogs...(Great that you posted it Jody, and let everyone know thumbsup.gif) I'm already thinking of putting the house up for sale, but from what I've heard, their landlord is ready to put them out....I've always had great neighbors, but I guess theres a first time for everything...Ignorant people don't cut it with me....

Oh I know about the gas stealing thing...

My neighbors right next door to me did that earlier this year--they're renting the house until it's slated to be torn down this fall. They're a bunch of teenagers and/or young 20 somethings. I'm sure one of them needed to get to work and had no money or gas and decided my Blazer (which I almost never drive) was good pickin's since it's pretty much next to their driveway and the gas tank is on their side.

I didn't bother calling them on it, I considered it a "favor" that one time in my own mind, but the Blazer and my Audi both have locking gas caps now. An easy $7 fix to keep from starting a war with them.

They've had parties (lots of them) but they don't typically bother me... but I do on occasion find beer cans in my yard. I just toss 'em back over the fence. It's obvious they're not mine because I don't drink Schlitz. haha.

No it's not right, but I didn't catch them at it, and I have no real proof they did it either.

but more importantly, if I DID know they did it for sure, and I called the police, they'd likely set out on a mission to hassle me to the ends of the earth for being a stodgy old hag. So, I just did the easy quiet thing by putting locking gas caps on. Now no one else will be tempted to steal gas from my car no matter where I am

What can I say, I'm just a peace maker that way.

Urgh I have a neighbours from Hell story. My mum and I moved into our current house (unit) a few months ago. The young lady at the front unit (we're at the back of the property and she's at the front) seemed nice enough, but she always had people around her place, most were young, idiot guys. Anyway, I buy alot (mainly books) and so I'm always having packages arrive at my house, and when we moved I noticed none of my stuff was arriving, or stuff that was had been opened. I blamed the Post Office, saying they were losing my stuff or just misplacing it. Then one day there was a knock on the door and it was policeman. He said that the police had a search warrant for the house at the front (he didn't say what for - I suspect drugs and other illegal stuff, or perhaps another neighbour complained about mail too) and when in there they found heaps of mail addressed to me. I had to write out a list of stuff that I'd ordered that never arrived - they even had our bank statements and bills and such. My mum and I had been confused why we weren't getting bills, or if we did they were second notice. Naturally we complained to the Post Office or the companies who were sending the bills, but then we realized when the cops showed up and gave us our letters and bills. I didn't get my stuff back because it was needed for evidence or something and I was told I would be contacted soon enough, but that was like 2 months ago. I've also had a couple of packages that haven't arrived since then, but I dunno if they've been genuinely lost or if the neighbours are pulling that stupid stunt again. I've started having my packages sent to my grandmother's house instead of mine. And that's my rant mad.gif you can't imagine how I hate those neighbours. That's theft, and it's alot of money I've spent that I have nothing to show for. I wish they'd move out or something, I always give the lady dirty looks when I see her.

The people that live next to me tend to take their problems out into the middle of the street (and act like howler monkeys) at the top of their lungs scream why the other should leave, why the other should go %%%% them self, why the other needs to stop eating so much and any day now jerry springer will rise on down from the clouds in his gold limo and save me from this hell that happens daily.

When we lived on the military base in Charleston, SC there was this family that moved in next door that had these 3 little girls that were all younger than my kids at the time. They ranged in ages 2-6 and their mom and dad never watched them outside at all. One day out of the blue they came over to my house and asked if they could "play with the little girl that lives here". Well my daughter was 8 or so at the time and didn't want to play with them and she wasn't allowed to roam the streets anyway. I told them she didn't want to come out and sent them on their way. Next thing I know they're on my back porch playing with all the stuff out there.

I almost lost my mind.

I stuck my head out and told them to go home.

This was just the start of the saga with these 3 practically homeless little waifs. These girls never came to my house to play because my kids didn't like them and my kids had a sitter during the day after school at the sitter's house because I worked full time. If we were all out at the same time my kids ignored them because to them they were just babies.

Anyway one day we're all in the house minding our own business and their mom knocks on my door and asks me if her girls are in my house. I'd never met the woman before and she's lost her girls somewhere in the neighborhood and she's just wondering if they're in my house. I looked at her like she was crazy.

Another time we're all just sitting around and one of these girls did just walk inside my house. Just came right in. I thought my head was going to blow up. I sent her home and we kept our doors locked from then on.

We bought a house not long afterwards away from the base and then we moved to the UK. When we came back from the UK we lived on a base again and we just bought a house again last September.

Our neighbors at our house now are for the most part all old people. We have 2 acres so that's grand. No bad stories now and I want to keep it that way!

My neighbors are okay, but their kids are TERRIBLE. They don't believe in spanking. (I believe in spanking only as a last resort.) Their eldest daughter is dangerously overweight, and they had to lock their cabenets(sp) at night because she'd literally eat EVERYTHING. Then she started coming to our house in the middle of the night, and eating what we had. We started locking our doors, and she got mad, and pulled some trees we had just planted in our yard as revenge, I guess. Not to mention her randomly letting our animals out. I've "accidentally" ran over her bike. HAHA!

It could be you who has the last laugh, the land your house stands on could be worth a lot of money and if and when you do decide to sell it, you can ask a lot more than you could have if the million dollar joints were not there original.gif thumbsup.gif

Wow, there are a lot of bad neighbors in this thread. I have lived in the same place since 1981, and my current neighbors have lived here since about '85. The ones before weren't too bad, had a bratty little boy who picked my flowers, but that is typical behavior for kids. The current ones are good neighbors, we chat over the fence when we see each other outside (he is a trucker and is gone a lot, she works and I rarely see her). Once when my husband cleaned fish and put the remains in the dumpster several days before the scheduled trash pick up, the lady next door kept smelling something rotten, and hadn't seen me in a couple of days, so she called the police and had them come check on me. I showed them the dumpster, and thanked them for coming, and then thanked her for checking on me. On the other side is an empty lot, so there are no neighbors. In the back, my garage is up against the fence, and blocks the view of those neighbors, so I don't have any problems with them at all. I guess I am one of the lucky ones.
