Alright, I searched around the forum here and saw nothing about this upcoming highly anticipated game from Harmonix, so I decided to start a thread.
For those people who are already into the Guitar hero games, I'm sure most of you are already aware of this upcoming branch of the genre. Not only can you play guitar and bass, like guitar hero, but this adds in the elements of Drums and singing. The list of songs is growing rapidly, and the announcement has been made that a lot of the songs from the metallica "catalogue" will be making their way onto the system.
As a big fan of the guitar hero games, I can't wait.... given the instrument I played all that long ago was the drums...I feel its a little more realistic to me lol. The fact you can join up with your friends online and play as a band is an outstanding feature, one of which I am sure to use a lot.
So what are others thoughts on this addition to the music game genre?

The soundtrack so far sounds great! Paranoid by Black Sabbath would be great to play! I've imagined something like this for a while since Guitar Hero 1 was released, but never thought it would ever exist! (I think it would be great if Paranoid appeared in GH3 too

)

I will get this, but after Guitar Hero 3. So far the GH3 soundtrack looks alot better, plus I wouldn't sing, or play the drums that much as I would the guitar.

Really? I feel I would rather play the music on rock band myself..... plus as stated above the fact they will offer you downloadable content, including whole albums of bands... is an excellent bonus.... given the only downloadable content guitar hero 2 have had is songs from the first game.

And they are horribly over priced. Anyways, GH3 will have Paint It Black, the best song in the world. Not not mention, many others I like. And once again, I will really only play the guitar. Though, I guess I have to wait and see how each song lineup ends out, we know few at this point.

I still an unsure whether they are overpriced or not.... Depends on how many peopl actually download them lol. Considering they have to pay for the liscensing of the song to the 360, then record the song and "program"... They need to get something to make sure they spend less then they are making, or else they will just decide never to make download packs in the future...
Paint it black is an awesome song... Don't get me wrong, I'll probably end up with both.... lol

I never knew you could download songs from Guitar hero 1 to no 2. I'd love that! I'd be able to do the 'Bark at the Moon' solo with much better success with the improved hammer-ons and pull-offs.

Love that song too. Soundtrack for Rock Band sounds good but with Tenacious D and Muse with GH3, I'll definitley be going for GH3. Then Rock Band when I have the money!

Tenacious D and Muse are two of my favourite bands..... and considering GH3 comes out at least one or two months before rock band I will be getting it as soon as its out also... THough I wish they used a different tenacious D song, like beezleboss or something...

Well I am guessing they will sell packs with individual items as well.... And since I have 2 guitars from guitar hero 2, I don't need them as such.... Pricing will be an issue, but on the other hand I'm sure when I spend the money i will actually enjoy what I got with it for once lol

I considered Beezleboss aswell but I can't imagine it happening becasue of the multiple singing as if it's a battle and the language. But Tribute might have been great if they could just blurt out the one F word.

Sorry, we can't have a link to material with offensive language like that. if people want to see it, they will need to search Youtube, which isn't hard.
...yeah I agree, tribute with the profanity taken out would have been great.... but, I guess i won't judge it till I've played it.

Oh yeah, I completely forgot about that, very very sorry

.
Anyway, just thinking about all the equipment that will be needed for Rock Band, I probably won't have enough space in my room because it's tiny. Now there's a chance that I may not be able to get it unless I spend a lot of time moving large presses and whatelse to make space. Even though |I'm not sure how big the pieces will be each, I can't imagine the drum set being too small.

Yes Fox, it does, though not for a while.....
I thought it was also important to note that Guitar hero 3 has just announced Metallica's "one" as one of the master tracks.... And Rockband has announced nirvana's nevermind as a downloadalbe album it will be making....

This is only an artists impression of the the potential Guitar Hero III peripheral for the DS, but I would be sticking to the console versions if I had any interest in the series. Then again it may be nothing like that or be exactly like that and play superbly.

What are peoples thoughts? Will the DS version be a unique and alternative Guitar Hero III experience or will it have nothing on the 360, PS2, PS3 and Wii editions?

I dont think it could compare...... There so many advantages a system has over a handheld. Whilst it could still be fun, I doubt it would be anywhere near as good in fair comparison.

Activision and Vivendi Games merge to become world's largest publisher

Activision Blizzard deal valued at $18.9 billion
Activision and Vivendi Games are to merge, becoming the world's largest independent videogame publisher, in a deal valued at USD 18.9 billion
The new company, Activision Blizzard, now boasts a portfolio bursting with some of the top-selling videogame franchises including Blizzard's World of Warcraft, Starcraft and Diablo, Vivendi's Crash Bandicoot and Spyro and Activision's Guitar Hero, Call of Duty and the Tony Hawk series.
Activision shareholders are to receive USD 27.50 a share, a 24 per cent premium over Friday's close of USD 22.15. Vivendi Games will contribute USD 1.7 billion in cash to the company and take a 52 per cent stake.
"This alliance is a major strategic step for Vivendi and is another illustration of our drive to extend our presence in the entertainment sector," commented Jean Bernard Levy, CEO of Vivendi.
"The combined strength of the existing management teams at both companies will set the stage for further profitable growth of Activision Blizzard.
"We look forward to being an active and supportive majority stockholder in a company that is poised to lead the worldwide interactive entertainment industry in the years ahead," he said.
Shares of Vivendi Games will be converted into 295.3 million new shares of Activision, which values Vivendi Games at USD 8.1 billion. Vivendi will also purchase 62.9 million newly issued shares in Activision for USD 1.7 billion in cash.
"By combining leaders in mass-market entertainment and subscription-based online games, Activision Blizzard will be the only publisher with leading market positions across all categories of the rapidly growing interactive entertainment software industry and reach the broadest possible audiences," commented Robert Kotick, CEO of Activision.
"By joining forces with Vivendi Games, we will become the immediate leader in the highly profitable online games business and gain a large footprint in the rapidly growing Asian markets, including China and Korea, while maintaining our leading operating performance across North America and Europe," he added.
Kotick will remain as chief executive of Activision Blizzard, while Vivendi Games boss Bruce Hack will become vice chairman and chief corporate officer. He will also lead the merger, expected to be compete in the first half of 2008.
Activision also said that it will now have access to Universal Music Group, the world's largest music company, "which will benefit Guitar Hero and further extend our sizeable leadership position in music-based games."
http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=31138Well if you guys were wondering which game will have the biggest list of songs look no further then Guitar Hero which now have free access to Universal Music Group. Sucks for Rock Band if they had planned to use some tracks from UMG. They might not get any licenses from UMG and any current licenses form UMG once expire they probably will not be allowed to use them anymore so for example they may have to release a different version of Rock Band if they can't secure a license with the current UMG songs they have.

Dec 2 2007, 07:27 PM
Since UMG would earn money from Rockband having the tracks, and for every person who purchases a song (if downloadble content) they earn a percentage from it... I can't see the business logic in not letting them have liscenses for songs. Sure, perhaps not let them have a few of the big songs and leave them for guitar hero to try and drive up sales... but usually starving the competition isn't going to do anything more then lose them money.
Super Pancake
Dec 2 2007, 07:47 PM
Your probably right but UMG have done questionable business decisions before they threatened to to pull there songs from Itunes. I believe currently they have a short term contract with Itunes until they can deliver there own Itune like service.
