Why let them enjoy their lives with sex and drugs and rock and roll in prison when we have to pay for their lousy existence? I say the most a tax payer should have to pay is for the price of a rope! One of the relatives was on the T.V. and was really upset that he was able to take the easy way out, changed my perspective, obviously he was suffering worse than any other punishment he could be given. I think people in prison aren't contributing anything to society...all they're doing is costing the tax payer, costing their victims, money for their upkeep. There's no point sending someone to prison unless it's for the purpose of rehabilitating them, and for some crimes (or in this guy's case, as he'd probably have died in prison anyway before his sentance was up) that isn't possible... At the end of the day, I just don't believe in human rights for people who commit certain crimes. I think there are certain bounderies that, in order to be considered a member of society, and be entitled to the privillages of a member of that society, there are certain lines you don't cross...a person who deliberate kills another human being in cold blood is, in my opinion, not qualified to be considered a human being, and shouldn't be treated as one. The basic arguement is that when I say they should be treated the same way as a rabid dog, I mean it literally Told you I was right wing in the crime and punishment area, socialist or not. Kinda suits then eh? Upon thinking about things I agree with you mate. The families of his many victims wanted answers. They wanted to know why this man commited these evil crimes. Now I'm not saying he would have given answers, but that crumb of hope has now gone for the relatives. It may be less of a burden on the tax payer in theory, abou 0.0001p per year each, but Shipman has got out of this on his own terms, and that surely should not have been allowed to happen. They wanted him to suffer now he won't surely an insignifcant amount of tax to yourself is worth piece of mind for these families, whom as a result of his death with never get any closure on the matter now. The only problem would be the many innocent people who are imprisoned for murders they didn't commit.There will never be a justice system that is 100% fool proof.Take us as an example.We all have differing views on punishment etc. and that goes the same for jurors. As for him suffering in prison, well yes he obviously did.Either that or he was so remorseful he ended his own life.Either way had he been able to get through the initial trauma of prison he would have come out the other side with all the treats and trimmings that are bestowed on these perversions of humanity.As a comfort factor for the family it would have been better for them to know he was suffering with his punishment, but go forward a few years and do you honestly think they will take solice from knowing that this animal is sitting in a clean cell/room with tv, computer, radio and all the other little treats that they amass from good behaviour? I doubt it. The initial injection of comfort at his suffering would soon wear off and leave then thinking he hadn't really got what he deserved. I mean its never happened to me so i dont know , im just going by the woman on T.V. yesterday and it did change my opinion. I guess we'll have to wait an see how she feels in a few years. I'm personally glad hes dead he was a waste of oxygen, but this should be given time for the victims families to decide if they all prefer him dead and to if it was a knee- jerk reaction on a belief that he may have one day explained why he did this.
