cladking Posted November 27, 2007 #51 Share Posted November 27, 2007 rotating has nothing to do it with its gravity, just its outward force, look at mercury and glise 581c they do not rotate, yet they have gravity. Mercury is locked into position by solar tidal forces. It rotates once every Mercury year relative the sun. The same applies to the moon; it rotates once per 28 days relative the Earth. If it weren't rotating we would see its backside as it came around. Gravity is not affected by the spinning of the planet except to the extent of the distortion imparted. Gravity has the same force on things the same distance from the center whether it spins or not.
Juan2k7nyc Posted December 2, 2007 #52 Share Posted December 2, 2007 well there would still be gravity..........but the side of the earth facing the sun would be extremely hot........and the one away would be cold................and the weather would change thing behind our recognition life would be totally destroyed........ Mr Mehaha Posted December 2, 2007 #53 Share Posted December 2, 2007 (edited) all i know is if you fly backward's around the earth like supeman did you can go back in time. i seen him do it! Edited December 2, 2007 by versidus
Admiral Danger Posted March 6, 2008 #54 Share Posted March 6, 2008 when the earth spins it crates massive amounts of magnetic energy so if the world stopped spinning there would be no magnetic field and wander out of orbit from the sun but earth is so close that it would be drawn into the sun if it was pluto it would wander out of the solar system probably

There is great doubt that the magnetic field would necessarily be affected to a great extent because of a cessation of the rotation anyway. kazekirion Posted January 2, 2016 #57 Share Posted January 2, 2016 (edited) I always thought if the world stops spinning, we'll become really dizzy. Like the old days when you spin around then you stop--you will feel worse than when you're spinning. I think it's the same thing? With earth. acute Posted January 2, 2016 #58 Share Posted January 2, 2016 According to Einstein, there is no such thing as gravity. The attraction between objects is a consequence of the bending of space-time caused by their mass.
