Sudan Violence Approaches Scale of Genocide

6 posts in this topic

WASHINGTON, D.C., Apr 2 (OneWorld) -- Reflecting the growing urgency of what international observers are calling a desperate situation in western Sudan, Human Rights Watch (HRW) charged in a new report released today that the The National Islamic Front (NIF) government is complicit in crimes against humanity committed by government-backed Arab militias Darfur.

The report, "Darfur in Flames: Atrocities in Western Sudan," accused Khartoum of recruiting and arming over 20,000 Muslim militiamen, called Janjaweed, or "men on horseback," to carry out attacks on civilians from the Fur, Masaalit, and Zaghawa ethnic groups who, while also Islamic, are of African origin and make up the majority of the region's settled population.

Government forces have also carried joint attacks with the militias against the civilian population, systematically destroying villages, the report said, adding that the military has also engaged in indiscriminate and massive bombing of civilians targets.

Approximately one million people have been uprooted since fighting began 14 months ago. More than 800,000 people remain displaced within Sudan, while about 110,000 have fled across the border into neighboring Chad, one of the world's poorest countries.

Israel can't do anything, cause even if we did try to do something everyone will criticise us. And Israel also has no power in UN decisions. It's up to you guys the big players - UK, EU, US and Russia. The US already tries to do something. The EU and the rest of the world is busy criticising Israel.

Why? because the way they criticise us is legitimate and has it's base in reality. I'm not going to even start comparing US criticism over Israel to that of the EU. The US is a friend to Israel as the EU is (Israel's biggest market is in Europe, not America), but the US criticism over Israel is much more rational. And believe me, we in Israel also have a deep issue with America because of their interfeerence with Israeli politics.

Oh the UK is doing alot, but lets face it - UK is no longer a superpower. They have some power, but not as much as the US have and so do not have the resources to put soldiers everywhere like the US do.
