Zero Point Energy

11 posts in this topic

Many scientists use the theory of zero point energy to explain quantum effects in elementary particles. Zero point energy essentially makes their calculations work but is thought of by many as an imaginary value.

Another school of thought believes that the zero-point energy is a real source of energy represented by extremely dense, chaotically fluctuating electromagnetic waves. At absolute zero it is thought that this energy will still be present in a vacuum. (This is why it is called zero-point energy).

If this energy could be tapped it could represent an almost infinite source of free energy. Some scientists and inventors beleive that it is possible to tap this energy without violating the second law of thermodynamics through the use of certain devices.

My question is simple. What do you think about so-called "zero-point" energy? Is it a fact? Is it fiction? Is there any evidence out there? Or is all supposed evidence manufactured? Does zero-point energy represent the next biggest discovery in the history of humankind? Imagine; free energy for everyone!

Zero point energy(ZPE), in both theory and experiment have shown that there is a non-thermal radiation in vacuums and that it persists even if the temperature could be lowered to absolute zero. Physicists have cooled helium to within microdegrees of absolute zero and still it remains a liquid. Only ZPE can account for the source of energy in keeping helium from freezing. My point is that ZPE is a fact, the problem is how can we harness this energy.

I believe free energy is a fact, and that it's only a matter of time before the technology is here to acquire and harness this energy.

This site is the homepage of ZPower, which is one of many organizations determined to acquire this energy and manufacture the devices that harness it. If you haven't been there already, it provides a lot of information into their projects and concepts etc.

Interesting thread Electro , I know absolutly nothing about Zero Point Energy . I am checking out Homer's Links but by the looks of it , it may take me a couple of days to decipher it all

O.K. at this point I am going to take it that Z.P.E is a reality , and I look forward to somebody one day harnessing it and using it as a clean renewable alternative to the burning of fossil fuels . However arn't there some economical pit falls to introducing a free energy source on to the market.

Kismit,

Whenever there are technological breakthroughs, whether it effects consumers or not, there will always be economic winners and economic losers. If free energy ever became a reality for regular people, there will definitely be a lot of people hurt economically, but there will also be a lot of people who see it as an economic dream come true. In my opinion, I don't think it would cause a worldwide economic collapse, as many people do.

I can't see a free energy source being a terrible problem but I do think that people who have a lot to lose over something like this could get a little grumpy and do things that they shouldn't . I know this is a little off topic but did you know that one of the leading tyre manufacturers actually holds the patent for the car tyre that never wears down. Now thats cheeky , but they can't afford to let that get out on the market can they .

It is a strange and disposable world we live in today . Why did they have the technologie in the 50's to make fridges and washing machines that lasted a life time and yet they had lost that technologie by the 80's , or is this just comercialism?

Actually what I see will be the Nuclear Regulatory Commitee, all the Companies that produce energy and just about every nut that wants a piece of this try to keep it under wraps. By doing this they can keep charging everyone for the usage of their product made from burning coal, oil and natural gas.

Everything comes down to the almighty dollar, no matter how it will benefit the human race or the World. Greed will prevail when it comes to something revolutionary, whether it be a new gas/electric hybrid car or cold fusion. Maybe there will be a day when money won't be the first thing to come to mind when some new technology comes to the public, but its wishful thinking so who knows.

So much technological research has been bought and stored away because it just might make what already available obsolete. Who knows there might be a machine that could convert toxic waste into something productive.

Good points Bloated Corpse. If a person or company was to develope some sort of free energy that would make an existing energy producer obsolete, they will most likely be bought out or disappear someplace never to be seen again. As you said, the almighty dollar.

:?: I agree Homer.

The film 'Chain Reaction' with Keanu Reeves, and Morgan Freeman dealt with this subject.

I hope that this is not the way that things turn out . I am going to be optomistic about this . Humans on the whole have evolved alot over the last 30 odd years in the way that we look at and protect the enviroment , we hav also become aware of the under handed tactics of greedy companies . This in itself opens up the oportunity for Z.P.E to be succesfull released on to the open market.

In theory there will be a free-energy device released on the market next year. I set up the MEG thread a little while ago. It might be worth having a look at that. However, you can make up your own mind as to its authenticity.

Many devices and inventions have actually been patented which claim to tap and make use of ZPE. Each of the inventors claim to have produced working inventions. However, the duplication of these inventions is sometimes difficult and when duplicated tend not to produce the results specified.

The real problem with getting the scientific community well and truly involved with any reasonable research lies in the difficulty in developing a repeatable experiment. Once someone stumbles across an experiment which produces "free" excess energy where it is wholly and cheaply repeatable and where definite measurements can be taken; then we will have made the necessary advances to convince the scientific community that ZPE is a realistic source for free energy.

Once the scientific community, rather than free range inventors, are involved then realistic advances may be made.
