The Bermuda Triangle is one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world, as such (prior to modern tech such as GPS, Radar as standard) there were a lot of accidents, which in recent years have subsided dramatically. A guy named Laurance Kusche created a report on the region his conclusions are listed below.

* The number of ships and aircraft reported missing in the area was not significantly greater, proportionally speaking, than in any other part of the ocean.

* In an area frequented by tropical storms, the number of disappearances that did occur were, for the most part, neither disproportionate, unlikely, nor mysterious; furthermore, Berlitz and other writers would often fail to mention such storms.

* The numbers themselves had been exaggerated by sloppy research. A boat listed as missing would be reported, but its eventual (if belated) return to port may not have been reported.

* Some disappearances had in fact, never happened. One plane crash was said to have taken place in 1937 off Daytona Beach, Florida, in front of hundreds of witnesses; a check of the local papers revealed nothing.

Kusche concluded that:

The Legend of the Bermuda Triangle is a manufactured mystery… perpetuated by writers who either purposely or unknowingly made use of misconceptions, faulty reasoning, and sensationalism.

Book:Lawrence David Kusche (1975). The Bermuda Triangle Mystery Solved.

I always find the devils triangle amusing, mainly because the Japanese don't even know it exists.

I always liked the story of the squadron of Avengers that disappeared. Didn’t they find those planes at the bottom of the sea?

If I remember right, there have been occurrences of magnetic interference with instruments on board some planes. Without accurate readings of the instruments, the pilots can, with an absence of landmarks, become confused and head out in what they think is the right direction but can be way off course and can even result in aircraft crashing into the sea.

Ahhhhhhh but the devil works in mysterious ways...... :P

Japan's Dragon's Triangle

The "Devil's Sea" and the Dragon's Triangle located in the Philippine Sea off China's eastern coast is known for vanishing ships and seamen similar to the legendary Bermuda Triangle. While sensational theories for the mysterious disappearances speak of extraterrestrials and lost kingdoms under the sea wreaking havoc, others believe that the region displays the same magnetic anomalies as the Bermuda Triangle. The area, which can be marked off on a map by connecting Japan, Taiwan, and Yap Island, has become known as the Dragon's Triangle after a centuries-old Chinese myth. According to the myth, dragons live deep beneath the surface and their movement can suddenly churn up waves, whirlpools, thick fog, and sudden storms.

In 1950, Japanese officials declared the triangle a danger zone for shipping. In 1952, a research vessel, the Kaio Maru No. 5, sent by the Japanese government to investigate the troubled waters, vanished without a trace, and 22 crewmen and nine scientists were lost.

Like the Bermuda Triangle, the Devil's Triangle area may be volatile, subject to sudden weather changes and ocean swells not yet understood. Undersea volcanoes are believed to influence the area's sudden environmental changes. Others cite mikakunin hiko-buttai, Japanese for UFOs.

IMO....the powers-that-be.....know all about the 'vortex' areas on earth....but it's hush hush.

To speculate further.....these areas may be used for secret technology regarding inter-dimensional

travel.......and what-not.... :o:D

Funny how a quick check of the World Shipping Register shows a ship by the name of the Kaio Maru No. 5, has never existed. :P

Well.....as you did it in just 4 minutes it certainly was quick.........

But perhaps not very thorough....

Think on this.....the whole subject of the 'Vortexes' is extremely sensitive....

there might be 'dodgey' goings on....to try to de-bunk anything to do with this

kind of thing.

I'm not going to spend ages.....ie more than 4 minutes to try and track down this incident.

It was 1952......maybe it has been classified or something between then and now?

Just a thought..... :)

Bee good post - ;) I think the Devil's triangle is actualy more (in)famous than the Bermuda triangle.

Theres an excellent documentary by the History Channel about it citing some very interesting incidents:

As for the Bermuda Triangle there still remains some very intriguing, unexplained cases-particularly off the island of Puerto Rico:

The Disappearance of flight N3808H., Puerto Rico, 1980

"Location. Mona Channel, Caribbean Ocean near Puerto Rico

Date: June 28 1980 Time: 2003

At 1810 Jose Antonio Maldonado Torres and his friend, Jose Pagan Santos, took off from Las Americas International Airport in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in an Ercoupe aircraft marked N3808H.

The Ercoupe was owned by Santo’s father Jose Pagan Jimenez, an Aero

Police officer in Puerto Rico. They were bound for home in Puerto Rico. At 2003 the Las Mesas radar site and several aircraft picked up radio transmissions from N3808H: “Mayday, Mayday, Ercoupe ocho cero, eight zero, zero, Hotel. We can see a strange object in our course, we are lost, Mayday, Mayday.”

An Iberia Airlines flight IB-976 en route from Santo Domingo to Spain responded to the Mayday and received a reply:

“Ah we are going from Santo Domingo to ah San Juan International but we found ah a weird object in our course that made us change course about three different times we got it right in front of us now at one o’clock, our heading is zero seven zero degrees…our altitude one thousand six hundred a zero seven zero degrees…our VORs got lost off frequency…”

Iberia Flight IB-976 then relayed a message from San Juan Center asking N3808H to turn on their transponder.

N3808H replied that the Ercoupe was not equipped with a transponder. At 2006 Iberia IB-976 asked for their call sing and estimated position and received this reply:

“Right now we are supposed to be a about thirty five miles from the coast of Puerto Rico but we have something weird in front of us that make us lose course all the time I changed our course a second (unintelligible) our present heading right now is three hundred we are right again in the same stuff sir.”

They were not heard from again. At 2012 the Atlantic Fleet Weapons Range verified the last radar position of N3808H as thirty five miles west of Puerto Rico. A search that included Santos’s father was then mounted which centered on this last radar position. It was discontinued after two days when no trace had been found. No trace was ever found."

It was caused by an underwater volcano and is well documented. The level of disappearances their is no higher than any other region.

There is nothing unusual about the Bermuda triangle either. It is all a nonsense.

There is nothing to it, just people desperate to believe.

Classified ? Soo it would be mentioned on only conspiracy sites but not in the World Shipping Register which is an account of every ship launched for as far back as 1939 (earliest one mentioned so far in a brief look) haha only took 4 minutes, well see its a register you put the name in and voila ! nothing it took about 20 seconds in all honesty but then again the ship is only mentioned on all sites of conjecture.

;) And Australia's Bermuda Triangle..

http://www.allnewsweb.com/page1301301.php

On the 7th of October 2008 the passengers on Qantas flight 72 from Singapore to Perth experienced something that may well haunt them for the rest of their lives. As the Airbus A330-303 was travelling over the isolated town of Exmouth in Western Australia the pilots received a faulty message and auto-pilot was automatically disengaged. The plane climbed 60m before pitching down and plunging 200m in a terrifying 20 seconds in an uncommanded manoeuvre. The pilots steadied the plane however a few minutes later the craft again plunged another 120m in 16 seconds.

Passengers were pinned to the ceiling and flung throughout the craft. There were 74 injuries, some relatively serious. The plane then made an emergency landing at the mysterious nearby Learmonth Airport.

Soon it was revealed that a similar event had taken place at almost the exact same spot three years prior. Malaysia Airlines Flight 124, operated by a Boeing 777-2H6ER flying from Perth to Kuala Lumpur on 1 August 2005 also received faulty indications and the plane pitched upwards and stalled. Autopilot was disengaged and proved unusable for the remainder of the flight.

Geoff Thomas of Australian Aviation referred to the similarities of these two events as an ‘extraordinary co-incidence’. But are they?

Debunk, shmebunk...money talks. Until such time the insurance companies charge more for ships and aircraft traversing these zones of supposedly greater risk, I'm not buying.

Nope, it is no more expensive to fly to Florida through the Triangle than it is to fly to anywhere else around there and avoid it. If it was so dangerous, the cost of insurance for going to the Bahamas would rocket up! Instead it is cheaper than insurance for going to the US.
