Subject: In Search Of The Giant Anaconda

Paul Raddatz was the godfather, of sorts, of Samantha - a 26-foot-long, 275-pound python that wowed millions of visitors at the Bronx Zoo, where the snake would thrill and chill viewers at its monthly feedings by swallowing a small pig whole. But last week Samantha moved on to the big snake pit in the sky, and now Raddatz, a Town of Delafield leather dealer, is on the prowl for a creature that could equal or surpass what was believed to have been the largest snake in captivity.

Raddatz and others are chasing an anaconda in South America that is said to be 30 feet long. So far, there are only local stories of such a beast's existence but no proof, making the search like the endless hunt for Bigfoot in the Northwest. "They say it's in the Amazon basin of Venezuela," Raddatz said. "When they tell me they have this snake, I'll be on the next flight out."
