UK Local elections

Well it looks like the electorate is showing Blair just what it thinks of his actions over the Iraq affair and telling him that being Bush's glove puppet isn't going to make him popular.....

The first time ever that the standing government has come THIRD in local elections.

Some results still to come tomorrow, but unlikely to change that much (According the BBC pundits who are usualy fairly reliable about such things)

Not to be picky, but its only Wales and England who had Local Elections, Scotland and Ulster only had European Elections.

the election situation has lead me to think of no other option than to get into politics myself, so that there is finally gonna be a party worth voting for, well in scotland at least!

We already have a tory government! I'm old enough to remember what the 'real' labour party was like..... it actualy had some socialist policys! When new labour arrived, I recognised it..... Tory wets!

Just look at actions rather than lables..... Blair is more the true son of Thatcher than anyone currently in the conservative party. No surprize that he's so comfortable sucking up to the most right wing American president in living memory!

Indeed Tony is a Thaterite. However, to be fair on them as close to conservatism they have gone their not as bad. When was the last time Labour decided it was going to make people pay more tax if they were of a certain race as the Tories did with the Poll Tax?

I think you’ll find that the whole point of the poll tax was that everyone got taxed the same; indeed the origin of the word poll means ‘head’ so a poll tax is a per person tax.

Thatcher introduced the poll tax a year early in Scotland as an experimental stage. It was indeed unfair as it was not a progressive tax; ie obviously the people on lower incomes paid proportionally more in tax. However Thatcher being a conviction PM stuck to her guns, and the poll tax was not abolished until Major took over in 1990. Where does race come into it?

Because it was given to Scotland a year before anyone else . She could have introduced a nationwide tax, or she could have picked a tiny little region, but instead she picked an entire country who make up the largest ethic minority in the UK. She stuck to her guns despite riots, protests, refusal to pay, and campaigns from the Labour and SNP for her to practice democracy (they even had a campaign slogan called 'Democracy from Scotland'). However she ingored us. But when it was introducing in England, the first sign of protests in London and it was abolished. Its a racist law because it was placed on a single country within the UK who are a differing ethnic group from Thatcher herself, and she ignored our protests but when her own ethnic group protested a year later suddenly she cared, and it led to her downfall. For a year Scots suffered, paying more tax than anyone else, and the rest of the Uk sat back and didn't care. If 'experiemental stage' is your excuse I ask you why was it not placed on a particular area of England? Thatcher is a well known to hate Scotland, why do you think Scots more than anyone else hate her. My dad's a teacher for crying out load, and in his classes calls her the 'Queen of Darkness', and all the students know who he means.

Thatcher is right-wing, xenophobia, and anti-Celtic and I'll be glad when her time comes.

Now, back to the topic at had, shouldn't European election results be announces today?
