Paper on Rising Sea Levels

Recommended Posts

Scientists have been forced to withdraw a study on projected sea level rise due to global warming after finding mistakes that undermined the findings.

The study, published in 2009 in Nature Geoscience, one of the top journals in its field, confirmed the conclusions of the 2007 report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).It used data over the last 22,000 years to predict that sea level would rise by between 7cm and 82cm by the end of the century.

The catastrophic sea-level rises have been proven wrong, but the sea will still rise as it has been since the end of the last ice-age. I'm not sure about previous centuries, but between 1900 and 2000 is rose about 12 inches.

Beginning?

Papers get retracted due to bad information on a regular basis. They are a small fraction of the ones that never get published to begin with because of bad information.

Just because it happens to be on a topic that is the current media darling doesn't make it unusual.

Dude, the only reason this is getting attention is politics. Yeah, Science isn't a democracy, but the way we reach our conclusions is nowhere near perfect. Stop blowing things out of proportion. Just keep looking at holes, and pointing them out without this extra commentary already.

I'm talking about content by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) like to use, in this case it was from its 2007 report. why make such claims that man is so responsable for climate change when so much of its being retracted. don't you think that making such a claim of rising sea levels due to AGW should be based on more solid science, evidence ect. or are they just going to throw out some report thats not strongly supported with evidence such as sea levels are rising, the Amazon could shrink by 85% due to climate change or climate change will melt most of the Himalayan glaciers by 2035. no doubt published papers get retracted but by a group like this, with these wild claims, it just has to make you think.

IPCC has a loud mouth, they don't count much any more. Much better just to watch the scientists rewrite faulty work and expand our knowledge.

It seems like its a case that the claim/charge is more important then how the information was obtained.

Which is why /everyone/ needs to ignore the hacks at IPCC and double check all work that passes their own eyes. Scientists need to as well, and stop worrying about the politicians who just want to milk this for everything it's worth.
