Israeli forces storm Gaza aid ship

421 posts in this topic

"If you ignore this order and enter the blockaded area, the Israeli navy will be forced to take all the necessary measures in order to enforce this blockade," the radio message continued.

The al-Jazeera satellite channel reported that the ships changed course to try to avoid a nighttime confrontation, preferring a daylight showdown for better publicity.

Says it all.

By the way, where were the brave Turkish defenders? I think I heard they were "protecting" those ships.

What Turkish defenders they were activates trying to give 10,000 tonnes of aid to the Gaza Strip they were not an enemy, and Obama order Israel to let aid in. 14 people were killed, and it wasn't a campaign to delegitimise Israel it was campaign to give aid. Israel has no right to attack an unarmed ship like that in international waters.

The ships are carrying 10,000 tonnes of aid to the Gaza Strip in an effort to break an Israeli blockade.

Obama has no power over Israel. They're a sovereign nation.

And I heard Turkey was protecting those ships.

No he has as much power over Israel as the Un does, since he is part of the peace process.

My link

Some 700 pro-Palestinian activists are on the boats, including 1976 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Mairead Corrigan Maguire of Northern Ireland, European legislators and an elderly Holocaust survivor.

Way to go Israel you just p***ed of Northern Ireland, and Europe.

15 people reported now that are dead

You are horribly misinformed. Israel is a sovereign nation. America's role in "the peace process" is supporting Israel, coming up with crazy peace plans, and acting as an intermediary between Israel and its enemies. America can't say, "Israel, do this and that." Unless you think "ordering" Israel means telling them to do it or we punish them.

Way to go Israel you just p***ed of Northern Ireland, and Europe.

When a nation tells you not to enter its territory, and you do it, you're simply asking for trouble.

As anyone who knows anything about this conflict knows, Israel still has control over Gaza's territorial waters.

Calling me misinformed is just another Pi move. I am not misinformed the UN order Israel to let aid ship in, Hamas controls Gaza not Israel it competently withdrew from Gaza.

I wonder if the Christians Conservative Republicans will have a heart for the dead civilians, and admit that Israel acted foolishly in this.

Yes, and? Please provide evidence that Israel has given up its sovereignty and made the UN its leader.

and Gaza is a sovereign Nation as well.

No, it's an autonomous "Palestinian" territory, not a sovereign nation.

http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/at-least-10-activists-killed-as-israel-navy-opens-fire-on-gaza-aid-flotilla-1.293089

The Israeli military said 10 activists were killed after its troops came under fire while intercepting the convoy.

"Navy fighters took control of six ships that tried to violate the naval blockade (of the Gaza Strip) ... During the takeover, the soldiers encountered serious physical violence by the protesters, who attacked them with live fire," a military statement said.

The IDF earlier confirmed that two navy commandos had been wounded in fight, which apparently broke out after activists tried to sieze their weapons.

According to the IDF, commandos who stormed the Turkish ferry Mavi Marmara, the largest vessel in the convoy, encountered violent resistance from activists armed with sticks and knives.

Activists attacked a commando with iron bars as he descended onto the ship from a helicopter, the army said. The IDF said its rules of engagement allowed troops to open fire in what it called a "life-threatening situation".

(snip)

The Israeli navy was operating under the assumption that the activists manning the boats would not heed their calls to turn around, and Israeli troops were prepared to board the ships and steer them away from the Gaza shores and toward the Israeli port city of Ashdod.

Obama has no power over Israel. They're a sovereign nation.

That might be true but without American tax dollars to subsidize their military there would be no Israel.

You are horribly misinformed. Israel is a sovereign nation. America can't say, "Israel, do this and that." Unless you think "ordering" Israel means telling them to do it or we punish them.

When a nation tells you not to enter its territory, and you do it, you're simply asking for trouble.

Our American role and foreign policy can be changed. Israel has gone too far this time. Israel has sovereign rights but no sovereign nation has the right to deny humanitarian aid in this manner. The Palestinian population is being helped by the international community since Israel refuses....Palestine should be free anyways. Israel maybe should be punished by stripping it of all its coast line, giving Palestinians control of it, and keeping Israel land locked without a navy so they cannot do things like this again. Then the world would be just a little bit better.

Israel's days of denying aid to those in need are numbered regardless of the outcome. Israel's official regret is not enough since human life has been lost when there could have been other ways to handle this. I cannot wait to see the world turn against them even further until they change their ways.

I'd reply to your post point-by-point, but this has been discussed on here numerous times already. Use the search function. :sleepy:

Stick to the topic. Nobody wants to read a rant about how evil Israel and America are.

This took place in international waters so Israel is completely in the wrong.

The international community is also going to force Israel to let the aid through anyways in the end so they were foolish in the first place to think they have the power to disallow a humanitarian aid mission.

It also does not matter if you reply or not and if you find my posting off-topic then I suggest you hit report.

Judging from your quote I am guessing you are a supporter of the Israeli nation?

If so, wouldn't it be better to condemn this action? After all, what sort of democracy attacks and boards ships on international waters, carrying humanitarian aid?

Except for the inconvenient fact that Israel wasn't the aggressor here. These people were trying to violate the blockade. Israel boarded the ships to steer them away, and the Israelis were attacked and reacted in self-defense.

Yes, so the IDF says, or is there other sources for the claim of being attacked?

And forgive me, but sending troops to ships carrying vital supplies of a non-combat variant automatically disqualifies someone from being the victim. Had they wanted they could have used naval ships to forcefully escort the convoy to an Israeli port, instead there are 16 dead so far.
