Geoff Ward: A new study aimed at proving how the ancient art of dowsing actually works and bringing it to the attention of a wider public is being launched under the aegis of the British Society of Dowsers. Dowsers Adrian Incledon-Webber and Hugo Jenks announced their study at the British Society of Dowsers annual conference, held on the weekend of September 10-12 at the Royal College of Agriculture, Cirencester, Gloucestershire.

They will be working with medical electronics specialist and biophysicist Giovanni Orlando, and the investigation will last for at least a year and possibly two. It will focus on a study group of 10-12 people – a mixture of experienced dowsers, healers and non-dowsers – and, using brain and body scanning techniques, will measure their neuro-physiological responses as they wield rods and pendulums.

I don't think it's embarrassing. I think it's neat :)

At least they're trying to put some science behind it. There are way more fantastical things out there, "proven" in much less convincing ways...

I believe that more than a few people have the ability to use dowsing rods to great effect , in fact some people do earn their living by dowsing , and I for one will be interested in reading the findings of this study .

I personally have walked miles carrying in front of me bent fencing wire and never once did I get an indication that any energy of external influence was at work , some people just don't have what it takes , I know because I'm one of them .

I try to keep an open mind and may be the ancient wisdom has a lot to teach us all and as they say in the classics 'I reject no theory at this point in time' .

Dowsers may think they have something going on, but they rely on the ideomotor effect and prior knowledge of what they are looking for. There is no reason that it should ever work, and in controlled conditions they never EVER find anything. Its hogwash.
