They claim that the cases can't be compared to what americans did, but torture is torture. If they admitted this much, who knows what has happened.

It matters not to me people's personal beliefs on tortue tactics.

These tactics exist in virtually every country.

If one believes that their country is "above the fray" and

on some moral highground - that is their right of opinion.

No self-delusions on my part concerning my country either.

Rember this line ?

"Right now the U.S. Gov't is doing things you thought only

other countries did." Relevant then. Relevant now.

Tortue is part of the dirty buisness that is done "out-of-sight"

"out-of-mind" philosophy. People's awareness of this may

reside on the mental backburner. It is easier if they do not

see or hear about it in any way. They tend to sleep better.

It reminds me of "Three Days of the Condor"

The question was posed that the people should be asked

their opinion on obtaing future oil reserves.

The response was not to ask them now - but ask them then.

Ask the people when...

The fuel is running out -

If food starts becoming scarce -

When gadgets and accoutrements of comfortability are threatened-

The point was that the people won't want to be asked.

They will just want you to get it for them.

Don't think that it can happen that way?

Look around you. People sell out everday (or buying in they think)

all the time and often over superficial and vain pursuits.

How much easier to do so when the chips are falling.

Yes, tortue goes on and will always go on.

No amount of public disgruntlement will ever change what goes on

behind closed doors... in special rooms.. by those that extract with

expertise... to get what they must quickly and efficiently.

Whether people want to believe it or not... it is probably a reason

for the low amount of terrorist activity for our country.

No participation in these methods for me due to personal morality.

I am not blind to the reality though that it goes on, will continue to

go on, even by those we would not think.

No amount of public discord will ever change that.

That is sad to say.

DANISH soldiers subjected Iraqi prisoners to ill-treatment including verbal humiliation, forcing them to maintain painful postures and restricting access to food, water and toilets, according to the initial findings of an army investigation.

Interesting, most ppl seem happy about these news, twisted...? You're just annoyed that danish didn't do anything worse to the prisoners. Verbal abuse does sound rather pathetic, but I'm sure that it's not the reason why danish military personel is pulled out and trialed.

What do I care anyway blink.gif

In Saddam’s day, countless Iraqis disappeared behind the walls of Abu Graib, one of the most notorious prisons in Iraq. It's open again for business with new wardens, the Americans.

I can't help but think.... if the terrorists were doing these acts with Americans they would be carrying them out.

I suppose you are right Babs, they would. This and many other things makes the difference between terrorists and the coalition troops, thanks god for that. Coalition adapting into "terrorist mentality", moral and tactic, is a victory to them, not for the coalition. Like the saying goes, live what you preach.

I agree in theory and principle that these

tactics should not be adopted by the coalition.

However...

It is a workable alternative.

Strategies are often changed to suit the needs.

The Revolutionary War, for example...

The American Colonies never could have won

without the implementation of "guerilla tactics."

Low resources...outmanned...substandard training...

bitter conditions... The odds were against the Colonials.

If not for the tactics employed by Native Americans;

the British tide would never have been stopped.

The colonials could never have fought such a "formalistic

war" with the hope for victory without this change in strategy.

Something to think about.
