EU rule forces village swings to close

1 post in this topic

LONDON (Reuters) - A parish council has been forced to close its playground swings, used by hundreds of children a year, because a European Union rule says they are two feet too high.

The three swings exceed the maximum height order set by Brussels bureaucrats which says swings should be no more than 9ft 11 in high.

The swings, at a park in Wiltshire, were put up 25 years ago.

Parish Council Chairman, Toby Sturgis, said on Tuesday they would have to raise £2,500 to replace them.

"The ruling has come as a bombshell," he told Reuters, noting there had been no accidents on the swings for 25 years.
