World's first flying car

Still Waters

Recommended Posts

If waiting in traffic jams leaves you ready to explode, the solution is finally here.

Drivers can switch from the road to the air in minutes at the wheel of the world's first flying car - which is on the market at a sky-high price of £800,000.

The two-seat automobile can reach speeds of 60mph on land and up to 110mph at 12,000 feet, despite being more than 60 years old.

Yes, can you imagine the issues we will have, when people start driving in a 3 dimensional plain? They can't grasp the ability to turn left right, forward and reverse!!! God help us all with people being able to go UP and DOWN as well!!! Oh man, we're doomed!

wouldn't you need a pilots license?

yes of course, and a runway! Its all very well to see this as a flying car, but misleading to think you can be driving then just take off!!

anyhoo, heres the modern one: http://www.terrafugia.com/

and heres the vertical take off one!! http://www.moller.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=49&Itemid=57

I read about that second vertical car you posted a while ago and have to say that thing is sweet! Still believe when/if we ever have mass automobiles flying, our world population will drop a few billion in a year lol

I had a look at both of these models also after reading the article yesterday.

When I think of a flying car I think more of a drone type setup with VTOL capabilities which is highly maneuverable - not a conventional plane with folding wings which can drive on a road.

I think that this thing in the OP is hugely impractical.

The Moller Skycar looks more on point but still I can't see any real market for this type of thing any time soon...

Would need "flying road" if you plan on having some securities

I'd imagine something akin to the 'airways' on the city planet of Coruscant is Star Wars, or on the Fifth element.

A novelty at best. For 1.5 mill one could buy a real airplane and a real car.

@Behavior???: This guy has wings, her car doesn't need them to fly. Just like Boba Fett doesn't need weapons to kill someone.

I went back and looked at the tech page and seen this: Fuel Capacity 5 US gallons (as required by FAA Part 103,Ultralight Regulations)

Fuel burn 10.0 gph

So thirty min. tops. But I see larger fuel tanks in the future.
