I like it. I agree with it.

Painting is an art form that often allows the artist to present an opinion. The latest work by artist Jon McNaughton does just that, portraying President Barack Obama burning the constitution in “One Nation Under Socialism” which has drawn its far share of detractors. McNaughton describes the new painting on his Facebook page:

“’I pledge allegiance to the United States of America,

And not to an ideology, which can never stand,

One nation under socialism, divisive,

With no liberty or justice for anyone.’

This November, you will make a choice. Will you choose One Nation Under Socialism?”

Good likeness. The Constitution is only safe if protected by all. I have no fears.

“I think what you are doing is bold and should be seen/heard by all Americans!!!” writes commenter Tamara Thomas. “Dead-on! A picture that says what our mainstream media will not,” says Vincent Brusio.

Which is ... ? What's the gripe against the constitution? It's a nice illustration, although you shouldn't judge a book by its a cover.

So do people think that if they keep saying Obama is a socialist it will eventually become true? Because in most countries in the Western world he'd be labled as conservative or centeralist.

When people don't know what they are talking about, much less what others are talking about, they can label everything as they want, you know: Goods are carried by 40 ton diesel sausages lately....

Painting scenes like that is really extreme IMO - someone has way too much time on their hands coupled with an unhealthy obsession.

You must admit he's talented though. To a great artist, going from imagination to canvas may not take too much time at all. It's just probably easy for him. I wouldn't say it an obsession. If you check out his web page he has many different types and styles of painting and only 5 out of 260 or so are political. That's not really obsession. He just conveys into art what we do here in words. I'll agree on the extreme part though only because it's visual. How many times have you heard or read here in these forums what he shows in art? I've probably said those things and have been called several things probably but I don't recall being labeled extreme. Just uninformed, conservative, slave driver and racist and even a 1%er once, all from folks uninformed about me. Anyhow, since I agreed with you, why do you think seeing a message is more extreme than hearing or reading one? I'd guess it's because it brings the issue to life in a sense...

He's got talent. The paintings are ridiculous but they will get attention and I'm sure that's what he's looking for. Attention and the money that comes with it.

I am outraged that someone would portray the PRESIDENT of the U.S.A. in an unfavorable light. This man, whether you agree with him or not, deserves the utmost respect...

OUT-RAGED!!!

err... wait a minute.

Lol. Don't forget the acclaimed movie when George was assassinated...that was classy and not extreme.

Not sure I agree with the depiction of Clinton and the Roosevelts as being complicit in the misuse/ignorance of the Constitution.

Also, white Jesus is starting to annoy me.

That's because most Europeans believe any country less socialist than England has a laissez faire economy. Since when is socialism relative, Corp? I thought it had an objective definition.

Also, white Jesus is starting to annoy me.

We don't know what Jesus looked like. Why would portraying him as white annoy you? Seems irrational to me.

Given the man was a Palestinian, he'd be dusky skinned at the very least - the old world would have been "swarthy". It bothers me because depictions of him being white carries with it certain preconceptions, it says "Jeezus", that Americanised commercialised corporate identity that is far removed from the real man as I am from an tolberone chocolate.

In all honesty, that Jesus picture outright scares me.

Hi Is it for real - I guess I find it extreme because I know what it takes to visualise and paint something. It becomes a permanent representation of a state of mind in all it's gory and glorious detail. I don't happen to agree that Obama is the things portrayed in that painting and if I was painted that way I would feel slandered in the extreme. I don't want to debate political views but there is in my mind a degree of radical overkill in the way that is presented.

Why not? He appears on our money. Apparently in God we trust and he rewards us with money.

JC is only 1/3 god according to the funny Christian brand of monotheism.

(the other parts are the father and the dove).

If he didn't have African or South Arabian ancestry then he may very well have had light skin and brown hair, like any other Mediterranean. But we don't know what his ethnicity was. Many Asians portray him as one of them, and so do other Christians I guess. Maybe it's just a way for them to relate to him.

This is true. I was actually raised Catholic but the only time I really think about religion is when I am really down and need someone on my side and then I just go to the top guy.

I think it was very intentional that Obama is presented with such a sinister scowl. But like I said, there is nothing in this painting or the others that haven't been said in words a thousand times over right here on UM or elsewhere. I guess some find it shocking to see what words look like when personified. I also don't think a good artist needs to spend too much mental time visualizing something to draw or paint. I know one. He can draw anything at will or on command as easily and fast, well almost, as we type words here. This guy does have an uncanny knack for visualizing the issues we talk about though.
