Women are more moral than men, survey says

11 posts in this topic

Women are more moral than men, with those over 30 years old having the strongest values, a survey has suggested.

The study, which measured responses to questions about honesty and competency, showed females are more likely to make decisions based on how they impact on others.

It also suggest the moral compass of both men and women alters with age, become less obedient but more able to use reason, until they reach a "peak of our intellectual and moral powers" in early 60s, according to a leading philosopher.

Professor Roger Steare based his conclusions on a “Moral DNA test,” which he developed four years ago to measure changes in people’s value systems.

.............If you can believe their answers to the survey.

While I fully expect that women will score higher on any 'empathy scale' than men, this is a fact of our respective social/biological heritages, all such surveys looking to determine one's 'moral character' based on personally scoring various attributes should be taken with a pinch of salt.

The character of each individual will necessarily introduce a bias to how they score themselves.

Leo,

Well said!

There does seem to be a tiny bit of support for care related morality being more common in girls.

.............If you can believe their answers to the survey.

The problem of self-reported data is an inherent and recognized limitation of the survey method.

It's amazing how many pseudo-scientific studies there are these days.

Men cause the wars which allow for societies to crumble. Women rebuild societies after these very same wars.

If morality is based on social cohesion then women do seem to have a higher dose of the stuff. They constantly do the hard work of keeping families together and helping other families. While there will be exceptions it is generally men who destroy and women who rebuild.

Many women have been caught up in the war between the sexes and as a strategy have assumed the roles of men with their accompanying agression, spirt of competition, and testosterone. This is not a static situation and will likely change in the future as we begin to realize the war of the sexes is not a good model since both masculinity and femininity compliment each other. We need both.

There are traditional women left, perhaps they do not occupy traditional roles but their mindset and hearts desire that they could.

In any case there will be no returning to the past but a new order for things will develop.

Hope you're right! Matriarcal societies vanished eons ago, to the point where historians even doubt their existence and we all see what patriarchal society is doing with the results we can all see (only those who want to look) so yeah we definetely need to change the way of acting
