Facts about Orbs!

126 posts in this topic

First of all... I think all of you are misreading my post and article all together. Sorry for the confusion. I did not go into an in depth explanation. It was a basic understanding how some misinterpret or mistaken identity of orbs.

If you read my article, I'm pointing out the basic understanding. I'm just trying to help the paranormal community.

I can take criticism well but I don't get why I am being criticized for trying to help!? Geeze

Ok, as I asked earlier, help me out.......

First, I read your post, and it clearly says in your writing " ORBS are not GHOSTS ".......Your article explains a few orbs.

Later on, we ( me and you ) are discussing seeing "orbs " with your own eyes, and I got the impression you were a bit upset when I said there are medical issues that can cause this....Actually you got a bit defensive.

So, in your opinion, are some orbs ghosts, or orbs are not ghosts?

I am not and have not been criticising you, I am and will debate the reality of ghosts however because I am sure they do not exist. If that upsets you, that is your issue, and please do not take it as criticism, it is just how I feel about this.

So, can you please clear this up ? ( the orb thing regarding your post )

No offense, I don't like being told ( when I am perfectly healthy ) that I have been seeing things because of a medical condition. I know the difference between natural things floating in your eyes and seeing light phenomena. No I never said orbs were ghosts anywhere. I thought I cleared things up when I said I am just simply trying to help the paranormal community understand the basic idea of what orbs truly are.

No offense at all.

I never told you why, ( actually I was not sure if you had ) you were seeing things..........I only pointed out that some known causes are medical, and made suggestions, you know, to help the paranormal community understand.

I know ball lightning is real also.....

May I ask what you think you have been seeing?......Just curious.

I never said I saw things. I've recorded things I cannot explain. Just to point out, I also never mentioned the word ghosts. I like to call what we can't explain as an unexplained phenomena. I just said orbs are not ghosts. Those who think they are... are wrong. I will say, I have seen things with my own "healthy" eyes I know cannot be explained. I don't have to prove that to anyone. Obviously, you seem to be a skeptic. What I say to people all the time is, you won't believe anything a believer will say unless you experience it for yourself. I'm not here to turn anyone into a believer either. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and beliefs. But when I do investigations I keep things simple, real and objective. Unless I have proof, its not solid evidence.

Sakari is perfectly correct in sayng medical ailments such as a tumour can (and do) create these lights.

I have read of a number of cases in the past, whereby opticians have diagnosed a tumour where a paitent has complained of seeing flashing lights or 'orbs'. These have been confirmed on seeing a specialist and having MRI scans etc. The patient can still feel perfectly healthy at this time. :)

I lived on an island in the Western Pacific where just about anyone could go out into the jungle on any given night and see moving orbs of all colors. Orbs show up at native American Sweat Lodge and Olawapu ceremonies. I have friends in Hawaii who see orbs. I have a friend in Wisconsin who sees orbs. I've seen orbs of all shapes, colors, and sizes both indoors and out, both stationary & moving. What kind of Western arrogance is it that believes that the only valid experiences are those of the Western culture? Or to say and honestly believe that if I haven't seen it, then it doesn't exist? Or to denigrate and deny the experiences of others?

See why your posts are confusing me?......Could be me though, I seem to be having issues of late.

Yes, I am a skeptic.....Thing is, I used to be a believer, a very strong one at that.

Wisconsin, Hawaii, and obviously the islands in the Pacific all have fire flies :)

It is not arrogance, and also, you can't judge " the western culture " by a forum, that is ignorant.

I never said that no one has seen these things. They are seeing something, I am saying they are either :

Mis-identifying

Lying

Medical Issue

Ball Lightning ( slight chance )

So, I am also not denying the experience of others, I am having a discussion and offering real conclusions to look at.

Why do some " believers " get so irate when someone questions the paranormal, or tries to find a answer that is more probable?.......

Are " we " ruining some type of fantasy?....Like telling our kids Santa is not real?......I am not being sarcastic, I really wonder why some " believers " get so upset and defensive.

I am not one of those people that just say " there is no such thing ", " you are lying ", etc......I have a discussion and offer other alternatives, and also ask questions...

And you missed my post before yours, I used to be a " believer ", big time.

The reason believers get irritated is because our experiences get dismissed even though we do keep it real and objective. I always leave room for discussion. When our experiences get dismissed, its a bit offending. If you don't mind me asking... what changed your belief about the field?

I think a combination of things, age, life experience, actually studying all aspects of the paranormal ( not just ghosts mind you, I believed a lot ), scientific sides, psychology, electricity, etc...

And a lot of this came or started from this site.( under another name ).

It was not to long ago I was a big " Ghost Hunters " fan, it's first two seasons........Basically, I wanted to believe, and I did no matter what.I laughed when people offered other things as fact, when I new that thermal image was a ghost......Somewhere, I must have read something, and it just clicked. My past experiences in Nevada growing up, things I read, and as said, researching beyond " paranormal sites and TV"......

Trust me, I have " seen " some strange things....I can now explain most of them....

I am sure Coloradoparanormal may chime in here anytime, he is also on a " Paranormal Team ", although they go about it a entire different way........He has " crossed over " I believe also, for about the same reasons.

Here a couple topics that may explain a bit....One is " sightings from skeptics " that I started.

Hi Ecto.

You are unfortunately in a minority. Most believers will not accept or look for, a rational explanation and are not prepared to discuss the incident with anyone other than a true believer. They dont like to hear about other possible reasons, specially if science is involved. I know how you feel. I have just had a photo published in a UK paper (an agency asked me if they could do so, having found the photo on a website I use). One of the comments added afterwards was..''It's amazing what you can do with photoshop'' This hurt, because i dont have photoshop or even access to it on anybody else's computer. so, I know what it is like not to be believed.

I commend you for being open to discussion. It is a shame that not all believers are like you. :)

edit,,,,the photo was not of an orb.

Just keep this in mind... merely a suggestion. Nothing more, nothing less.

Alternative explanations are great. I'm all for them, especially when it helps a client not become afraid and take control of their environment and establishment. But it doesn't mean they are the real reason either. Believe me, I always look for alternatives. I always disprove first and try and recreate the whole nine yards. In a way, Paranormal Investigators and Skeptics have something in common whether you like to hear it or not. We are all searching for proof or evidence. Plain and simple.

I appreciate a fresh perspective. I am always up for a nice healthy debate. I just don't like when my experiences are dismissed easily when the person arguing it wasn't there and did not witness it. Needless to say it just ends up being their side of the story. Therefore you should offer benefit of the doubt first. Not everyone is a liar. There are a few good people out there who do tell the truth and have had true experiences.

what about the orbs that yuou can see with the naked eye?

i see you are happy.. i ll let you be happy . ignorance is sometimes a good thing .. in your case it is ..

after researching for 15 years eh ? and you come up with this? nice :D

congratulations.

for me i know most orbs are ghost .i dont need years of research to try and debunk it

.and offcours 15 years is alot of time to waste. ... and you know why? because i have seen them with the naked eye .

a few seconds before that,i saw a ghost ..it turned into an orb.. soo i BELIEVE .

not everyone can win the jackpot you know.. :P maybe you should do some research about orbs that can be seen with the naked eye .. :P i hope it wont take a lifetime for you to come up with something,

Finally!! I was trying to find someone who has either seen an Orb with the naked eye that turned into an apparition,or an apparition that turned into an Orb.

Thank for being brave and posting this here!! :tu:

I have never seen an orb with my own eyes. But... I have seen them on the display of my video camera whisp by. Though I wish investigators would refrain from using the word orb. In my honest opinion, I think these anomalies should be a form of solid mass that is not transparent and generates their own source of light.

If you look at the photo in my article. I have pointed out the differences, what to look for etc; As we debated earlier, it is hard to determine what they truly are. It is hard to use them as evidence at all. If you check out my website and you-tube channel... I have recorded what I believe to be unusual light phenomena.

There are no fireflies in the Western Pacific, and I'm pretty sure there are none in Hawaii. In Wisconsin, maybe. An island with a population of over 100,000 most of whom have either tumors or eye problems? I'm not saying orbs are ghosts. I am saying I have seen them, I know dozens of friends who have seen them, so whether photos of orbs are the real deal or not, I can't say. I can say that thousands of people live with them on a daily basis. I think there is a cultural bias at work, along with the differences of how people are in the world, and where they live in the world. I have nothing vested in whether people believe me or not, but I will certainly speak out and stand with those with whom I have shared experiences.

As for the comment about ruining some type of fantasy, of course you meant to be sarcastic, otherwise you would have used different language. You are too smart to have accidentally employed sarcasm when you intended to use less offensive language.

I blew it and asked my wife when I posted that. ( she lived in Hawaii for 9 years )........She said there were some there, I can not find any evidence of that now, after reading this response.....Dang it, I usually check something before claiming it to be fact.( well, I thought I did ).........So, I was wrong.......None in Hawaii.

How many people will admit being wrong, and bold it :)

Yes, I was being sarcastic.......

I do not believe thousands of people live with them on a daily basis, otherwise it would be easy to back that up.....

Now, if you are talking " earth lights ", I can buy that.

Most orbs are created by airborne particles. Like dust, pollen or bugs. Some are created by reflections too.

Now there are places thoughout the world where folks have reported seeing "orbs" of light. I've heard of these called spook lights or ghost lights. They give off light of their own.

It wasn't until all the digital cameras began to be used did all the orbs show up in pictures.

Don't know what earth lights are. And you don't have to believe that in some places on this planet orbs are quite common, or that they manifest at some native American ceremonies. My reason for posting was to stand with those who have seen orbs, because it's pretty common for those who make an orb post to be subject to treatment that is likely to run them off, so to speak. And for those who make those types of comments to cast blame on the receiver of the message instead of the originator. Do you see how that sets up a them against us scenario, and instantly stops any real communication, which is an exchange of ideas?
