I've been reading a book by the same title written by Joel Martin and William J. Birnes that is the result of over 30 years of researching historical documents, newspapers, books and other sources. It claims that 39 of the 43 first families to occupy the White House have experienced some sort of paranormal phenomenon ( from the Washingtons who didn't live there to George W. Bush who was two years into his first term at the time this book was published). It is well known that Nancy Reagan and Hillary Clinton consulted astrologers on a regular basis . Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter all reported sightings of UFOs to the point where Carter had promised disclosure after he entered the Presidency. Seances were common in the White House from the mid 1800s to the early 1900s. The Lincolns are both known for their belief in the occult. Mary Todd often conducting seances and reporting spirit activity in the White House. Abraham Lincoln seems to have been our most psychicly gifted president. As I read on I'll post other things I find interesting but I will start with George Washington. Two things stood out to me that I'd like to get opinions on. The first is Washington's vision at Valley Forge. I'm posting weblinks that I found so I don't have to type everything out (a little lazy, sorry).

As Washington was at Valley Forge during a bitter Pennsylvania winter, he was pondering whether to just give up. His men were starving. Their clothes were tattered and many didn't even have shoes. Cold and disease was taking a huge toll on his men. These links are close to what the book says happened except in the second part of the vision, it doesn't mention the Pacific Ocean. It just says Washington said he could see towns and lights as far as he could see.

The second thing I want to post is Washington's appearance to the men of the 20th Maine under Joshua Chamberlain at the battle of Gettysburg. He was seen twice, once to lead them to the battlefield and once to lead them in a suicidal charge that would turn the battle that would turn the tide of the war and ultimately preserve the Union.

I can't believe it but while searching for the vision of Julia Gardiner, who would become John Tyler's second wife, I found a book review on the book I'm reading. You can read quite a number of pages in this link. I saw the page about Nixon, who is said to haunt his library at Yorba Linda, still bitter and disillusioned by his unsettled presidency. He is referred to as an earthbound spirit. Just scroll up on the right hand side.

I'll put this in here also but everyone knows about the curse put on William Henry Harrison by Tenskwatawa, the medicine man-religious leader brother of Shawnee Chief Tecumseh. Some sources say the curse was pronounced by Tecumseh, but what I'm reading says it was, in fact, his brother, who was known to the Shawnee tribe as "the prophet". Ronald Reagan was the first to survive it and George W. Bush was also able to avoid the curse.

And then, of course, there is the Kennedy curse. It is believed as written by the authors of this book, to have started in Ireland sometime during the Middle Ages over a bitter dispute of a wronged transaction. In recent years, no less than 15 tragedies has struck with an unusual number of tragedies and inexplicable deaths occurring in earlier generations also, although the book does not go into detail regarding them.

Even my mother told me about the Kennedy curse ,when I was little,but as I got older,I realized it was the old the family suffers for the sins of the father for ,what,2-3 generations.

Yes he was. A bootlegger who was very tight with the mob. Sounds like he may have inherited his business practices from his ancestors. I wish the authors would have explained that in a little more detail.

Astrologer, seer Jeanne Dixon began her career as an advisor to the Presidents during the Presidency of FDR and stayed on through the Reagan administration until Nancy Reagan chose to consult an astrologer named Joan Quigley instead. Here is a link to some sightings of Lincoln's ghost amongst some others. Heads of State including Churchill are believed to have seen him. Queen Wilhemina of the Netherlands definitely did and was very vocal about it.

Here's a link to the Lincoln bedroom and a few more stories of sightings. In Lincoln's time, it was his cabinet room. According to the book I'm reading, the bed was bought for $10,000 by Mary Todd Lincoln, which was a huge sum of money in the 1860s. It so infuriated Abraham that she would spend that much money during wartime that he refused to sleep in it. He never did, however his son Willie died in the bed at the age of 11 if I remember correctly.

Amy Carter and her friends tried to use a ouija board during an overnight sleepover but according to my book, they were stopped by Rosalynn.

Here is the prophetic dream Lincoln had regarding what would be his assassination. When he told Mary Todd about it she broke down and refused to leave him for 3 days, requiring constant reassurance. Lincoln agreed to go to the theater for some relief from his burdens and because the idea had lightened the mood for Mary Todd. He always felt he could not stop an assassination attempt and did not seem to be overly concerned that night. Witnesses say he was laughing and enjoying the play with his wife and guests when John Wilkes Booth entered the Presidental Box.

Mary Todd Lincoln would today be considered bi-polar. She needed constant attention, was very emotionally needy and was sometimes a burden to her husband, who himself suffered from bouts of depression. She was, however, from a very wealthy and prominent family and so she was just considered a little eccentric. I'm taking this description from the book I'm reading. The deaths of her children were devastating to her and to Abraham also, particularly the death of Willie. It is said they had frequent arguments and that today their marriage would be considered dysfunctional. No one knew that word in their time so this is on the speculation of the authors, but it does seem as if they are close if not totally correct.

That's what I thought too. I'm not going to post all the sightings of Presidential ghost, just what I can find the links on that can kind of confirm what the book is saying. It is a very interesting read and I think most people are already aware of some of the things that are being said. I must say, we who are members of this forum that discusses ghosts, the possibilities of UFOs and sightings of other phenomema are in very distinguished company. I never thought Washington DC was so full of belief in the paranormal. I just finished Nancy and Ronald Reagan's use of astrology while in the White House and will post this weekend. It was a very long section that kind of stunned me just how much they depended on the stars to guide them.

Astrology in the Reagan years became a hot topic and resulted in several books being written. The first was by Donald Regan, Chief of Staff. This was the one that first blew the cover off the "scandal". The second was written by Nancy Reagan in which she defended herself by saying this was how she coped with the assassination attempt and her fear for Ronald's safety. The third was written by Joan Quigley in which she lays out the importance of her influence on all decisions that were made in the White House during the Reagan administration.

He claimed that he would be notified whenever Nancy Reagan wanted to alter the President's schedule because of what her "friend" Joan Quigley had to say. Departure times for Air Force One were timed to the second as dictated by the President's astrology chart. Everything from the meeting with Gorbachev in Iceland to the Iran-Contra scandal to the right second to start a State of the Union address was subject to change until the time was found to be favorable.

And then, there is Hillary Clinton's involvement with a psychic named Jean Huston who would allegedly help her to channel Eleanor Roosevelt. This link is a little biased but gives a good accounting of what happened.

I think it fits well by showing with the odds he was up against how powerful the combination of highly developed logic and highly developed intuitive thinking, faith, can be.
