Anyone born in the U.S. is a U.S. citizen and therefore 'American'. So who is the 'we' you're referring to? Do you mean white people of the U.S.? Or just all of those who are there now?

If someone was born here or if they are naturalized citizens and they truly believe in defending this nation, believe in a strong work ethic, fairplay, and believe in the Constitution (fervent anti socialist), then by definition, they are American no matter what race, color, or creed they are. If the minority races become the majority, will they then close the border? And deport the illegals. Please?!

It also means that based upon shared communities and interracial marriage statistics, the USA will grow to have a large Eurasian population and a large Eurafrican population as well the traditional asian, white, and black American populations it currently has.

We have done cold fusion quite well in this country but it still has a way to go. I grewup in a heavily Hispanic influenced region of the US. I have to have my green chili fix. Here, I can go anywhere and order gc on my burger. The minute, I’m just a mile out of the state, I ask for gc and I get strange looks. I love gc in everything from pierogy to jambalaya. My grandmother was Czech and she would throw garlic in with gc. A steady diet of that kept the body healthy! But just give me my beans, gc, and a tortilla and you’d satisfy me

I'm definitely not trying to race bait. I've posted in forums for a few years now and if anything is clear, it is that this is a very touchy subject to some, all on its own.

Can I just ask though, what if someone was born in this country but didn't believe in defending this nation (from certain threats), a strong work ethic, fairplay, or believe in the constitution? Would they then, in your eyes, not be American? What about just taking away one or two of the qualifiers you have fabricated?

Would this also mean that those who have a longer family history in the U.S. but also, say, don't believe in a strong work ethic, are not, in your eyes, 'American'?

For the record, by actual definition (not your strange sense of the term), all someone has to do to be 'American' is to have the luck to be born there (or, obviously, gain citizenship by living there). In the eyes of the law it doesn't matter what his opinions on certain topics are, so I'm not sure why you've added those qualifiers. It's actually quite telling that you have.

Oh, and referring to your last two points, please do not put words into my mouth.

Fact of the matter is that for the majority a child is a burden they can't shoulder with the salaries paid nowadays. A child used to be an investment, now it is a liability and you face the choice of relative poverty and a child or relative well doing and no child. There is where most decide what we are thought as socially acceptable: relative well-being.

For those where it does not matter whether they live a little better or worse or those where the standard of living is unaffected by children (either because they are too way down to make a difference or too well off to make a difference) having children still is the standard. Most of those are poor, and most of the poor are not white. As simple as that.

To answer your question quite simple... this is not about race.

That is willing to assimilate, pledge to the flag, protect the constitution, cut all ties from old country, declare themselves an American, and willing to serve America are Americans. Those that doesn't do this are not American and everything but American. There is a reason many people say Speak English or shut the hell up... because you are suppose to assimilate, become part of our community instead of replace it with your own. Being born here doesn't make you American, it just makes you an potential American. Being an American is what I stated before...

The more I think about it the more angry the above post is making me. While I am not the xenophobe my parents raised me to be I still find your thought process extremely offensive and naive. When people move into a nation and insert their own culture, language, religion etc. they're not immigrants, theyre invaders.

But, don't you at least agree, people should learn the language of the county that they are moving to?

I mean, if I am planning to visit another country, I make at least a minimal attempt to understand a few phrases...if for no other reason than to ask where I can find a bathroom.

And maybe I am too nosey or paranoid, but I like to understand what people are saying around me. I wouldn't want to move into a community set up just for people like me. It would isolate, not comfort, me in a way that I'm not used to. I like being part of a diverse community where we all learn from each other.

As always...Q-mark has a tone of logic and temperance. This "IS" supposed to be the great melting pot...it is something we have touted through the years....I am not afraid of it...hell...I look forward to becoming a minority so I can get on that government teat.

In all seriousness....this should not be surprising and it should not be alarming....it is who we are....we are....everyone...and no one....all at the same time. The religous right wing got all up in this birth contro thing over this...they were afraid that us "wasps" would be bread out (wasp = white anglo saxon protestant). Maybe we should be bread out....if that is the will of the universe so be it....I really don't care. I want my daughters to have a great life...I want them to prosper and if they choose...have kids themselves...(doubt that is going to happen though).

My girls are clever, worldly and they view the world from bigger eyes than I personally ever had....and I am proud of them for that.
