Coloured chickens: Latest craze in Indonesia

13 posts in this topic

In every highlighter hue you can name, these two-day-old chicks are going cheep at a market near you.

That's provided you live in Indonesia, where day-glo chickens are a favourite animal craze.

Pictured at a street market in the capital, Jakarta, the rainbow-coloured balls of fluff are shown in bright green, orange, pink and yellow.

What is with Asians and their need to colour animals????

I'm an asian, and I have two albino rats. And I have no desire to color them, lol.

I think I saw colored chicks in a market when I was young, I wanted one :hmm:

I read about this a while ago. Animal rights peeps were upset because it was said they did it to sell them as various Angry Birds characters .

Horrible... Why can't they just be normal animals?

Nah. These are living creatures not toys. The Indonesians have lost their focus.

Of course, I think they should just leave the chicks alone.

They're adorable, and they can lay eggs! Magic!

Actually I think they're kind of cute.

I was thinking though, if I was raising chicks and needed to separate some for whatever reason then having them colored would make it easier to see who is who.

Too bad they cannot make them plaid or checkered.

I think animal rights people would spending their time on eliminating puppy and kitty mills and fighting to improve conditions for livestock and all but that requires work and effort so it is easier to gripe about colored chicks.

There are better things to worry about.
