Still Waters Posted August 28, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 28, 2012 A pop song by Black Eyed Peas singer Will.i.am will be the first song from earth ever to be broadcast from another planet. The singer announced on his Twitter feed that his new song 'Reach for the Stars' will be played by NASA's Curiosity rover, which landed on Mars earlier this month. The song will be played at 7pm BST this evening and will be streamed live from NASA's website and broadcast on NASA TV. http://www.telegraph...ed-on-Mars.html
TSS Posted August 28, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 28, 2012 Not his biggest fan by any stretch of the imagination - but that is a pretty cool thing to have on your CV...
Ealdwita Posted August 28, 2012 #3 Share Posted August 28, 2012 That'll stop any Martians getting too close to the Rover! That man sings like I play the Neolithic butt-flute! "Xxxxsrvtllxx dpllexitwq irrwcxaotll" (I'm afraid that's a 'no' from me")
sarah_444 Posted August 28, 2012 #4 Share Posted August 28, 2012 (edited) From the comments section provided in the link: I am in awe of the Curiosity mission, the people and technology behindit. I am therefore saddened to hear that this aspect of it is being dumbed down for the masses; still, I suppose it could be worse (although not much) and feature songs by One Direction or pictures of prince Harry naked.... Truth is, in 20 years time kids are going to learn about this historic event, but are not going to have a clue who Will.i.am is, or know anything about the crap song in question. That pretty much sums up my opinion on this. Edited August 28, 2012 by sarah_444

Amy the Mighty Posted August 28, 2012 #6 Share Posted August 28, 2012 Why Will.i.am? Why don't they choose a song with a well established track record of annoying people? Grease Megamix?
Ealdwita Posted August 28, 2012 #7 Share Posted August 28, 2012 (edited) ....or Cliff Richard singing 'The Birdie Song'? Oh, and BTW, thanks for the warning about the broadcast Still Waters Edited August 28, 2012 by ealdwita
Space Commander Travis Posted August 28, 2012 #8 Share Posted August 28, 2012 Oh, do we really need to antagonise any hypothetical aliens ever before we've started?
TSS Posted August 28, 2012 #9 Share Posted August 28, 2012 All that money spent and we're going to kill off any potential life on there with that planks voice before we have chance to find it....someone, somewhere, needs to lose their pension over this! mfrmboy Posted August 28, 2012 #10 Share Posted August 28, 2012 Why are they using a synthesized voice. I would think they would use a good real voice....... Celine Dion perhaps.
Walter White Posted August 28, 2012 #11 Share Posted August 28, 2012 (edited) "Life on Mars?" by David Bowie might've been more appropriate. "The Eve of War" from Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds probably less so... Edited August 28, 2012 by Walter White
Abramelin Posted August 29, 2012 #12 Share Posted August 29, 2012 Anyone remember "Close encounters of the 4th kind"? (or was it 3d??) : OK, if you do, then watch this (max volume): This must sound insane and scary even for an alien, lol, even though they might like (and recognize) the light show.

Professor T Posted August 29, 2012 #14 Share Posted August 29, 2012 Interesting............ Was curiosity programmed by a petrol head? I mean, loud music & burnout's on Mars isn't really science is it..
clfr21 Posted August 29, 2012 #15 Share Posted August 29, 2012 Agree, agree and agreed with most comments here. Why him? Why not a song which is already famous and instantly recognizable. Is it to try and 'excite' youngsters about space? I don't know, anyways, bad choice in my opinion.
Cyaneyed Posted August 29, 2012 #16 Share Posted August 29, 2012 As if the man needed a bigger ego. Why not just go the whole way and play Rick Astley if they want to troll Mars?
Walter White Posted August 29, 2012 #17 Share Posted August 29, 2012 Considering our fascination with the planet Mars, "Never Gonna Give You Up" by Rick Astley would be quite good.
ThickasaBrick Posted August 29, 2012 #18 Share Posted August 29, 2012 A bit of classical music would have been much better. Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, or any other classical composer would have made more sense.
Ever Learning Posted August 29, 2012 #19 Share Posted August 29, 2012 if aliens could interpret this song, it would song like an invasion speech.

I could see that. It's brought a lot of people on Earth together. I could just see the aliens flying over giving us the horns instead of the finger with this crap... An0n1m0us Posted August 29, 2012 #24 Share Posted August 29, 2012 This is hilarious. We spend 2 billion to send Curiosity to Mars and they send music by this idiot. There are countless artists that I can think of that are more worthy. What a world this is.
Iron_Lotus Posted August 29, 2012 #25 Share Posted August 29, 2012 should of played some sinatra or something worth listening to, not garbage from a guy who can't even spell or say his name correctly.
