World's First Colour Video Footage Unveiled

16 posts in this topic

The earliest colour moving pictures ever made have been rediscovered after more than 100 years and will go on show in a new exhibition.

The footage, made by cinematic pioneer Edward Turner in around 1901, was found in the archives of the National Media Museum in Bradford and with the help of experts at the BFI National Archive was transformed into watchable digital files.

It includes footage of a macaw, soldiers marching through London and a group of children believed to be Turner's young family.

That's cool!

I mean... the video is pretty boring... but the discovery is cool!

So did the world change to color all at once or were there still some black and white places?

It can't be video. It must have been film, if it was photographed in 1901.

Incorrect headline.

Wonder when the first magnetic tape video was made in color? Late 1950s, I'd guess.

I recall seeing my first color TV at the 1962 World's Fair in Seattle. I was 7, walking by a display, and it stopped me cold! LOL

My mother had to tug on my arm to turn my head away from the color cartoon on the TV. I was just amazed.

Today, I'm 57 and am rarely so amazed. The proliferation of technology has increased manyfold in the past 30 years, but I've become accustomed to the rate.
