4 Pinocchios for a truncated Obama video

questionmark

Recommended Posts

Just as we have not been very impressed about many of the Obama campaign’s claims about Mitt Romney’s business career many years ago, we were not initially that impressed with the Romney campaign’s effort to dredge up a 14-year-old quote to demonstrate that President Obama wants to “redistribute wealth.” The clip was so old — he was just a state senator — and the context was rather unclear. Also, it appeared as if the YouTube version was clipped in mid-thought.

But now NBC News has obtained the rest of Obama’s comments, and it is clear his remarks were taken completely out of context. Obama is not talking about redistributing wealth at all — instead, he speaks about competition, the market place and innovation in an effort to improve government services in Chicago.

Man take the anti-republican blinders off for this kind of stuff. Both sides issue equal crappy gotcha clips. The romney clip is no shocker either. Its nothing nobody else had said a million times just here on this forum. Turn to something more important like how the stupid YouTube video is the cause of all problems right now lie is blowing up in the face of the administration.

Desperation is someone who finds every negative article on the internet about republicans and puts it up on the forum sometimes several articles a day most of them petty like this one. I blamed both sides for this petty crap. As I said, don't the important things concern you more than this gossipy tabloid stuff that isn't news to anyone who pays the least bit of attention?

Kessler is a left winger extraordinaire and I don't agree with his take on this. He is talking about government picking the winners and losers in the marketplace by redistributing the wealth to where government thinks it is best. He maged this on a large scale with the auto industry and solar/wind with absolutely disastrous results. Redistribution is redistribution.

Anything in the Washington Post is so biased to the left, it can no longer be considered a legitimate neutral news source. By referencing it, you negate your argument by default. Pleae find other references to balance Kessler's ridiculous bias.

It does not matter what Kessler says or not, the full video exists and anybody can have a look at it... quite a difference from the video that was cut up to mark Obama as a Socialist.

Of course it matters what Kessler says, he is writing the column and declaring that it completely misconstrued what was said then assigned it 4 pinnochios. He backed that up by saying NBC (LMAO) of all places agreed with him. That is enough for most people to dismiss what the man said which is a very bad thing since it shows the real Obama.

See we only ever see the real man behind the mask that is Obama when he is off prompter and speaking off the cuff, that is why he is never allowed, if possible, to speak off prompter. "You didn't build that" was such a moment and his little back and forth with Joe the Plumber regarding this very issue is another. At Loyola you get a glimpse of the academic speaking in wonkisms about the government picking the winners and losers rather than teh marketplace.

Changing the goalposts here? we are talking about whether Obama was arguing redistribution of wealth as argued by the Romney campaign ad.

The answer is pretty clear and unequivocal.

Sigh. I swore this board off, but there are things that cannot be gagged that have to be said :

President use teleprompters. They also use notes and speechwriters. And they do that because, when speaking "Off the cuff" they are subject to having their message mistaken and used in twisted ways (As this video shows). They have prepared remarks because it is better to say something once in a way that get's across exactly what they want to rather than trying to stand there and think of a way to express complex ideas on the spur of the moment.

Obviously sometimes those prepared statements are also used to obfuscate what the idea is as well. But generally the reason why politicians have to use this type of thing is very simple - if they don't think about what to say ahead of time, even the smallest slip of the tongue will be used in the football game politics have become in the era of 24/7 news channels. Witness, for example, the attempts to twist what Obama said in his recent speech just because he used the word "That" instead of "Those" - it's silly and stupid and the news channels that sway public opinion so efficiently will do it. And they do it happily to garner ratings and power.

You don't like teleprompters? Fine - then convince the country to listen to the ideas of a speech rather than parsing out isolated phrases and using them as silly bumper sticker logic. Until you can do that, teleprompters and prepared speeches are the best way to try to express political ideas clearly and coherently.

Anyone with the capacity of thought that actually researches things BEFORE believing them...knows that Faux News and the Robo-Romneynauts edited the clip...just like they did "you didn't build that" and several others. It's true Q...when you have to stoop to lieing and manipulating the facts because the facts don't work for you....that's an act of desperation.

I'll say once more before I am accused of being an Obama fanatic...I'm a Libertarian, I'm voting for Gary Johnson...I don't like either of these guys...But!!! What I DO like is seeing people use the facts for what they are. If you want to attack Obama...try using things like "continuing the Patriot Act"...Signing NDAA, signing HR347, Obamacare...etc...etc...etc. The problem is....Romney agrees with those liberty, freedom and rights stripping moves!

So anywho...yeah, Romney is desperate...he got caught dissing half of America and they are desperate to throw the hounds off the scent...

and btw...many of Romney's senior campaign staffers are actually employees of Faux News...go figure.

Before you ask for a source....No I will not look it up for you....think and research something for yourself for a change...(not you Q-mark....but just expecting some Romneynaut to ask for a source)

You are a funny guy. Either that or you live a rather cloistered life if you haven't noticed that Obama has a freakin' problem when he gets off script. I mean it is one of the longest running jokes of the guy's administration and has been the fodder of jokes on SNL, Late night shows and even cartoons. Hell, even Biden joked about it and his teleprompter has its own website!! Ahh, but not you wookie, no, you missed the last 4 years of gaffes, buffoonery and F-ups. LMAO, please serve your condescension and sanctimony elsewhere.

Four years of "gaffes, buffoonery and F-ups"? How interesting that you seem to be upset about that... yet still argue against using tools to try to minimize them. And further you argue in favor of a candidate that seems to be made up of them entirely (Romney). After 8 years of exactly that from the last Republican president.

But, of course, I am sure that your own posts come straight from your brain to the keyboard without even a single edit, correct? Or do you also try to express yourself in a clear way?

Whatever...bs503d1b80.gifKeep beating a dead horse cause you have nothing to defend them with. I don't have to attack Obama or the other MSM outlets for any other reason than his policy....something that Romney should do...but he supports the very things that I oppose as a Libertarian.

If it makes you feel better to sulk and point fingers at the only party that appears to have the capacity to "see" and "think"...go ahead...it might make you feel better...especially when the Robo-Romneynauts lose.

You are missing my point like most of you 'nauts do....Neither of these turds deserve to be in the Oval Office....you can't see past your ideology to recognize that though.

I kow what the libertarian plan is and it stinks. You guys, the true believers, want Obama elected so that the whole country will utterly collapse, with all the chaos and death that entails and then out of the ashes the Lbertarians will rebuild it as a true constitutional republic. It is utter hogwash and even if the country does collapse the libertarians will not be the ones to rebuild it. I'd guess some fascist entity will rise up. My libertarians acquaintenances in Virginia are hoping Johnson tales just enough of teh voteto let Obama take the state.

Very dangerous stuff from some real zealots. I have gone from ambivalence towards the libertarians to thinking it is time to actively confront them. Republicans need to lean more towards libertarianism and Romney is fdong that but the rest of the libertarian plan is rubbish and if successful will be their downfall.
