Is castration the secret to a long life?

Scientists believe they may have discovered the secret to longevity for men - but it comes at a painfully high price.

Researchers have shown that eunuchs living in Korea centuries ago outlived other men by a significant margin.

They say their findings suggest that male sex hormones are responsible for shortening the lives of men.

The evidence comes after study of genealogy records of noble members of the Imperial court of the Korean Chosun dynasty (AD 1392-1910).

Kyung-Jin Min, of Inha University, said: "This discovery adds an important clue for understanding why there is a difference in the expected life span between men and women."

Interesting only 3 females in this thread :) I don't care how long ya live no man will cut off his junk...no way! I'm sure men see this thread, cross their legs and move on.

Another immortality debate?

Inside each cell your chromosomes have segments at their ends called telomeres. Everytime a cell divides these telomeres shorten until they run out. When they run out a cell either dies or goes into a dormant state where it cant replicate anymore and doesnt function properly called senescence. Aging is the gradual accumulation of senescence cells throughout the body.

Immortatlity in mice has already been achieved. As it turns out mammals have a telomeres lengthening mechanism built into their cells which is activated by the female sex hormone Estrogen. A course of hormone jabs for mice has been shown to completely de-age them. The problem is that lengthening telomeres doesnt repair any damage that has accumulated in senescence cells. As such if they are fully reactivated they can turn cancerous.

At the age of death the amount of senescence cells in mice is lower than in humans because we live longer. Therefore this treatment alone cant be used on humans to de-age us without a significant increase in the risk of cancer. It can still be used in the early decades of life though before cells have started going into senescence and it results in an extension of lifespan -

1. On average women live longer because they produce more Estrogen then men.

2. On average women who have spent years on Estrogen based contraceptive pills live longest of all.

3. Fat cells produce Estrogen so if you're a little overweight (little so you dont get heart disease) you live longer.

4. Castration in men causes weight gain which increases their blood Estrogen.

5. People may be interested to know that whole cows milk contains significant amounts of Estrogen (Not only is lactation driven by Estrogen most cows are made constantly pregnant by their farmers throughout their lives increasing it further).

Mammals also have seven other repair kits in their cells called SIRT1 to SIRT7. These repair cells and correct any damage to their dna. These are the route scientists are currently taking with mammals that have longer lifespans such as humans but due to the length of time humans live experiments arent near completion yet. Even so you may be surprised to find out the Germans have already done a lot of work on SIRTs in Concentration Camp experiments during the 30s and 40s. Everything so far indicates -

1. SIRT activity is normally quite low so their rate of repair is below the rate of damage. This leads to damaged cells dying and being replaced which of course shortens telomeres.

2. SIRT activity is regulated by blood insulin levels.

3. The lower your blood insulin levels the more repair activity from your SIRTs.

4. Enviromental stresses such as famine produce a massive surge in SIRT repair activity due to very low insulin levels. This is your bodies reaction to prevent damage occuring to it during starvation so it can pick up where it left off once food becomes available again.

5. This surge in repair activity is so massive it vastly outstrips the rate of damage your cells experience. All cells get their damage repaired so long as your body has enough vital nutrients to perform it with.

6. SIRTs do not lengthen telomeres they only correct damage.

7. Other enviroment stresses such as drought, heat shock, cold shock, low doses of radiation, low levels of toxin, g-forces, low levels of oxygen and biological stresses such as infection, exercise, missing a nights sleep, lack of sunlight and injury also upregulate SIRTs. You may recall the Olympic commitee banning disabled atheletes who were deliberately injuring themselves prior to competition to gain an advantage. They know about SIRTs which is why they were doing it to themselves. Needless to say playing with your health is risky because if you get things wrong you get left with damage which is hard to fix.

8. The pigment in blueberries significantly lowers blood insulin levels. Many others fruits and veg too but blueberries are one of the most powerful.

9. The pigment in red grapes and red wine bypasses blood insulin and directly upregulates SIRTs significantly.

10. Diabetic medication which lowers blood insulin levels upregulates SIRTs.

Scientists like to be cautious but they have already stated that the first person to live to be 200 is alive right now. With the right diet and lifestyle it should be possible to far exceed that. Obvious you arent going to get a scientist telling you biblical stories of people living to 1000 are true just yet but we are there -

1. A life-long diet of 1200 calories a day puts your body in starvation mode from that point onwards. In that 1200 calories you need enough vitamins and minerals so you are looking at a fruit and veg based diet. Your body cant make all the amino acids it needs although it can store them. Therefore every few days you need some meet such as chicken, beef or pork. They also advise a large glass of whole cows milk every other day. The low calorie diet will double your lifespand and the milk will increase it by an additional 50% - lifespan about 220 years for someone starting it right after puberty has finished today.Startng it before or during puberty will stunt growth so thats a bad idea. If weight loss is experienced have a pig out day once a week.

2. 30 minutes moderate exercise everyday. Not too much as damage to cells results in cell death causing replication and therefore telomeres shortening. Not too little so as not to get the best out of your SIRTs while removing the need for cell replication.

3. Hot shower or bath one day and a cold one the day after. Alternate. Another 20%

4. Safe dehydration - no drinks one day, all the water you need the next, so long as its not the middle of summer and so long as you arent putting yourself in danger - not only upregulates SIRTs it causes a profound dropoff in your metabolism doubling lifespan.

5. Some toxics - Occasional cigeratte or a good drink once a week. Another 20%. We are at about 500 now.

6. Low dose of radiation - Another 20%

7. Achieving heat equalibrium. If you body burns minimal calories sweating or warming up your metabolism drops off - Another 50%

8. Missing a nights sleep once a week - Another 20%

9. Eat plenty of blueberries, red grapes and keeping your sun exposure down gets you the rest of the way.

Obviously if someone is interested in doing this and has the determination to stick to it long-term you need to pay a visit to your GP. This is for diet advise to make sure you get all your essentials and to check you dont have conditions which a low calorie diet could make worse. Or pay a visit to the CRONIE website and get yourself enlisted on the programs (Calorie Restriction with Optimal Nutrition). Obviously I'm going to point out that radiation is a bad idea should any idiot be getting any ideas lol. Heres the Panorama episode on the diet stuff from above-

Some Food for Thought

Sirtuins (SIRT1 - 7) - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sirtuin

Resveratrol - http://en.wikipedia....iki/Resveratrol

17-Beta-Estradiol (Estrogen) - http://jeffreydach.c...ey-dach-md.aspx - The mice were genetically engineered so Estrogen didnt directly effect telomeres lengthening mechanisms. Instead the tweak was so that 4-OHT (The chemotherapy drug Tamoxifen) did it instead. This is to keep the research under wraps so you can be sold longetivity drugs currently being tested. All you need is whole cows milk not popping weird and wonderful drugs.

Just eat the red grapes.

By the time you reach your terminal breath theres a good chance they'll just give you a jab and you're 20 again. Its about 20 years away and red grapes will help you get there.

Well then does being gay mean you will live longer?

And does having sex often mean you will shorten your lifespan?( sexual activity produces more male hormones for males)
