Can spirits harm you?

I personally don't think a spirit can harm a person. I've heard stories of people waking up with scratches and cuts thinking they've been attacked in their sleep by something. I also don't believe that it is possible for a person to be possessed by a demon/negative entity. They might be able to secretly manipulate weaker people but I can't believe that something can take over your whole body and control it.

What are your views on this? Do you think that spirits can cause physical harm? Have you experienced this yourself?

no you cannot be hurt by something that has no physical place in this world.

you may drive yourself nuts over it, but if there are spirits or ghosts i would say they are powerless as far as causing real harm goes.

I saw a ghost one time and didn't feel threatened at all by it. However some might be inclined to do so.

Just for the heck of it, I posted a link to where this was discussed before, forever ago. The topic was locked, but I thought others might like to read it, or at least the results of the poll:

Just had a read through and it seems like me, the majority of people think that spirits can not harm you.

Something that isn't physically real can't do any harm. I think spirits can feed off your fear and stress and can make it worse, but can't harm your physical well-being.

If they have no physical prescence, how can the feed off of energy? Energy is physical.

they can't harm you i think, but they can drain the energy out of you, by making you feel depressed. idk if its true but its just a thought. read it somewhere awhile back.

Well, is it not thought that spirits need to feed off energy to 'appear' or make it aware to a person it is there?

They are not in our physical dimension like you and I, but can be seen by people as if they were.

Yes but only very powerful demons...

they can hurt or kill..or possses you.

But the chances of you ever meeting one are slim.

Unless you practice black magick or summoning of powerful spirts.

And normal ghost probably now... but sometimes negative entiies or demons

to haunt certain places.. etc..

Only if you drink too much of them.

As soon as I read the thread title I knew this was coming :w00t:

There have been many documented accounts of folks being scratched by unseen entities, I believe SOME of them could be true but the majority either as a result of waking up with scratches (too many potential causes have to be taken into account before you can call that legitimate) or being in a known haunted environment or suspected haunting and wandering around in the dark, BOUND to bump into something at anytime.

There are people who are adamant they were near nothing at all, even in well lit places and have been harmed (most of the time only minor damage) , if this WERE true then we have to wonder why ghosts, particularly angry spirits have not severely injured living people, some kinda weird ghost code or a lack of energy?? All this should be separate from the phenomena known as poltergeists, it could be that they are a form of projected emotion and energy from people going through tough times or powerful spirits, but their manipulation of objects is well known.

They can harm your mind, make it impossible to be at peace. Every moment you fear something will happen and you just have to be prepared for anything. Physical harm I think is possible. Its possible for them to throw things at you. I think anything as physical is possible and extremely scary.

Well I think residual hauntings and ghosts that randomly burst out of a wall or appear in the corridor (not aware/replaying etc) aren't the type that inflict damage. They clearly don't have any interest or perhaps even recognition of the living, it's most commonly reported that the attacker wasn't visible, which is why it shocks so potently, even if the cause isn't supernatural, you want to know what the heck dared to touch you. The unseen aspect of course allows the answer to swing to a source between supernatural or physical reasons mistaken as an attack. We also know ghosts manifest in stages, perhaps depending on the environment conditions or available 'energy' so it could be that unmanifested spirits, particularly wrathful, would seek to not appear but to let their presence be felt. Poltergeists are very violent usually and manipulation of objects is their calling card so via that method it's certainly possible to get hurt, I'm not sure whether these entities scratch or bite or whatever. Not sure if you'd class demons, elementals or more gloomy prospects under spirits but they like to harass lets put it that way... just a few random thoughts :su

I was once told that you have more to fear from the living, however I do believe that some spirits are capable of attacking humans if strong enough. Im no specialist on this topic i just believe if they can draw power from electricity to form and sap human emotions (as mentioned above) surely they might be able to use these to harm a human if they wanted? But i doubt that its a common occurance. At least i hope its rare!!

Very very true! There are more than enough dangerous folk in the realm of the living who'll damage you for no reason :gun:
