Various security&election concernes

What are your concernes and thoughts about the world, security, and the election?

Do you feel the world is safer now? Do you feel the world will be safer if a specific candidate is elected? What about homeland security? Is it doing its job? If not, would another candidate do a better job with it? Was the war in Iraq worth it? What are your thoughts on the reason the US went to war? Will the US go to war with another country, being an offensive, defensive or preemptive war? Will the US start it, or will it get dragged into the war with one of its allies? Also, what do you think about the candidates?

Im doing a report on these issues, and would like as much feedback as possible. Please leave your name and state/province so that I may better report on the states/provinces (incase you live in another country)'s trends. If you're not willing to give your last name, give the intial. A full name would be nice though.

If I were to go on a scale of 1 to 10, we were at a "1" or "2" prior to 9-11. We are now at maybe a "4" or "5". A lot has been done, but there is a lot left to do. There will always be some "holes" in security in any free and open society, but to every extent we can, we need to plug those holes.

I believe the world will be safer if George W. Bush is President. He has consistently fought terrorism on all fronts.

Was the war in Iraq worth it---Yes. Besides liberating people from an evil tyrant, we also took down one of 7 governments that activiely supported terrorism (Iran, Syria, Libya, Sudan, North Korea, and Cuba being the other 6). Iraq harbored terrorists from groups like Hamas, Hezzbollah, Al Aksa Matyrs Brigade, Ansar Al Islam, Saddam Fedayeen, and Islamic Gyhad, amongst others. Our troops in their march to Bagdad encountered dozens (literally) of terrorists training camps, with concentrations of these camps increasing as they got closer to Bagdad. Saddam did possess the ability to quickly make WMD (this has been proven), even if he didn't currently have any WMD on hand. Saddam was thumbing his nose at international law and at the US. As far as loosing 1,000 soldiers, I am surprised we have only lost that many (while I consider each life valuable), as I expected much higher casualties during the was itself. I am disappointed with the way the Bush administration has handled the aftermath, and I am disappointed that Nations like France and Germany let their greed override their concern for enforcing security council resolutions, especially after 12 years of failed diplomatic efforts between Hussien and the world. In short, it was time to sh** or get off the pot, fish or cut bait, etc...

Will we go to war again in the near future? It depends on how other countries respond to diplomatic efforts. Libya disarmed its nuclear program, however North Korea and Iran have not. Diplomacy should be given more time in these situations, but there will be the point when if they have not responded, military options need to be looked at.

My opinions of the candidates:

Bush---Resolute and determined to do everything he can to prevent another attack. Not an environmentalist, by any stretch.

Kerry---Panderer to get votes. Kerry will say whatever he thinks America wants to hear. The SNL satire debate had a great mock quote from him:

I have consistently supported the war in front of pro-war groups and opposed the war in front of anti-war groups.  I pander to voters, but I do not flip-flop, and America deserves a President who knows the difference."

While this is a mock Quote, it really does represent who Kerry is, a political panderer. If you talk to pro-war democrats, they will say that he is clearly pro-war (but would have done it right). If you talk to anti-war candidates, they will say he is clearly anti-war.

This quote is the most revealing (and this is a real quote:

I actually voted for the 87 billion, before I voted against it.

He now calls it an "inarticulate moment" which both candidates have had plenty of. But when you look behind it, you see that just a month before this vote, he said it would be irresponsible to support the war but oppose the funding for the war. Then he voted against the funding for the war, which means by his own definition that he is irresponsible.

Do you feel the world is safer now? no

Do you feel the world will be safer if a specific candidate is elected? no, but we can hope

What about homeland security? Everyone's security is a joke

Was the war in Iraq worth it? No, we should have brokered a deal with the Iraq military

What are your thoughts on the reason the US went to war? I support the war to remove Saddam, but I'm not kidding myself, I know Bush did it for oil. I resent the hack job they've amde of the occupation, we should have brokered with the Military and Police.

Will the US go to war with another country, being an offensive, defensive or preemptive war? Not likely, but if Bush wins the next election and knows he doesn't have to worry about Public Opinion, who knows.

Will the US start it, or will it get dragged into the war with one of its allies? The only war I can see the US entering into because of its allies is North Korea. But I don't see north Korea going that far.

Also, what do you think about the candidates? You need a socialist

Well Stellar, I hope I can help u out here. As for our homeland security , I think it has improved somewhat. Not as well as I hope it would though. The airports I think are alot more secure and our nuclear sites are more secure. I live in Northeastern Ohio, right on Lake Erie. There is absolutly no security around our water treatment plants at all. Some have chain link fences around them , but that s about it, I think it would take next to nothing to get into one of them and taint our drinking water . Cleveland is our biggest city in the area and has been having alot of financial issues. Cleveland has cut back there police force dramatically and response times have doubled, if not tripled. As for the war I am still mixed about it. I agreed with invading Aphganistan(forgive my butchering the name pls). I didnt agree with the Iraq war honestly. I am glad Saddam is out of pwer , but I think that should of been taken care of a long time ago. I think disbanding the Iraq army was a big mistake also. I think either Bush or Kerry will do a good job cause I think both are thinking of the United States, and its best interests. They just have different views on how to do things. Well, thank u for your time and listening to my 2 cents
