What did we learn in this election?

How were women and gays bought off?

By blindsiding the Republicans that were focused on the economy, creating and hitting the weak points on the Republican platform. Like I said right out of Alinski. When the headache wears off, they will see that women’s or gay Rights will do nothing to improve the economy. And as enslaved prostitutes, will find no way out.

Fox cares more about Benghazi than a crushing hurricane.

According to the MSM. The two are just as bad. But if you’re going to bring up Sandy, isn’t it interesting that where the MSM hammered Bush on Katrina, there is hardly a word on Sandy. Obama did the very same things as Bush. The failures of the government were the same. But it’s Bush’s fault. Sandy allowed the MSM to paint Obama like a saint. Obama rushed to NJ with Chris Christi for a photo op and then onto TheView. Wake up sheeple!

The leadership of the Tea Party is a bunch of wackos but the Tea Party isn't about them?

No, it is not. But this was a brilliant Socialist gambit on confusing the people. One has to admit, good job.

You need to inform your followers...you know the guys that made them the leaders...

I would agree. We’ll see what happens at mid terms.

Liberals are not socialists. We have been over this many times. We are as much socialists are you are an anarchist.

You are an anarchist.

Yes we have and you still haven’t caught on. Liberals are members of the American Socialist Party. The Democratic Party no longer exists. Just come clean and be honest about it. I’m an anarchist? Really? I thought I’ve been clear enough that I am a Constitutionalist. I guess in a Socialistic society, that does make me an anarchist – so never mind, I stand corrected.

There's an entire thread on here about it. It was bad science. Bad statistics, tumor prone rats, poor control groups, etc.

http://www.unexplain...o

This is the last I'll say of it here to not derail this thread further.

Fair enough, this will be the last thing I say one the subject as well. The fact that this is the first study of it kind, being that it was longer then 6 months, and the things it did in fact find, are troubling to say the least. To just completly dismiss it, without at least insisting further studies be done, would be a shame.

Lol. Yeah...you mean "going in the wrong direction" for Richie Rich, right? If I had millions of dollars or owned a business/corporation and worshipped Greed as my new god, I'd probably say the same damn thing. But it looks like to me the latest votes in this country have spoken and not the so-called "status quo".

The vote talks, everything else walks.

The vote does talk but according to the popular vote a hard statement clearly wasnt made for one side or another. We are still split in half, congress is nearly identical and tensions will hardly sooth. This is no guarantee that anything different will happen and this is not a free pass for Obama to enact all the dreams of his father. DC operations are still gonna look like gridlock in New York City after Sandy.

Yet the Republicans fight to make it a government issue. Fighting to ban gay marriage is putting it into the governments hands. Ironically, the Republicans are about less government invovlement...

And doesn't your side fight to make it an issue also? If they were keeping it out of government they should take my stance and say its not their business to get involved.

As a person there will be times when you have to have clear boundaries and a back bone and Obama has shown himself to be such a person. There will be times you have to make a decision and no one will agree, but you have to move forward regardless.. This is called maturity. Even then you can make mistakes and sometimes as humans we make really bad ones, if this happens you pick yourself up and you man up and learn from it. This too is called maturity.

Backbone? Just one small example. He was against gay marriage until Joe Biden was for it. He instantaneously diverted from his convictions. That isn't moving forward. That's pandering.

I'd say if one is Independent do not give up, keep fighting, movements always begin with one person.

That would be great if independents didn't keep voting for the establishment.

What have I learned though...

As my first real run being heavily interested and concerned with politics for an entire four years of one president I have learned that it really take an emotional and mentally stressful toll on me. A question for you older folks well into middle age who have sustained a passion for politics... How the hell do you do it? I'm really not sure ATM that I have it in me to be so passionate for another four years. This was a massive blow and it don't feel good. I ask you because apparently you've been through the ropes with multiple ups and downs.

I have learned that as a resident of Pennsylvania so long as I don't vote blue my presidential vote absolutely will not count. That's kind of off-putting.

I have learned that polls are right and polls are wrong and none can be taken as gospel until Election Day.

I have learned that pundits don't know squat. They just have the gift of gab. While they may present facts at times, opinions are what they are.

I have learned that folks like preacherman are likely absolutely correct. Thanks in much part to him along with many others here on UM and a little bit of Glenn Beck I have learned that I am most certainly more aligned with libertarianism. In 2008 and even in '10 I was still a rookie at all this and thought that I was a Republican. Nearly all my votes, any available, this time were libertarian except Romney because I was more concerned with ridding Obama than believing in Romney. Mitt never was my first choice but in the end I felt he was my only choice. That doesn't mean I thought he was completely a bad choice though. Also, there were two unchallenged dems on my ticket and I voted no choice. I certainly will never vote D under any circumstance. Most of our views are just far too contradictory.

I have learned that America is split at the 50 yard line and all this election hoopla was for nothing. The dems lost several million votes since 2008, the repubs stayed around the same. While they pulled off a a win they failed to show any gain in support but neither did repubs. Mostly though, we are as divided as ever and heading for certain disaster. The only hope I had for Romney and maybe mixing up congress a little was that at least with new players there might've been a possibility for something good or different. Now it's the same and I still think we are heading for a brick wall at 90mph.

I have learned other things I'm sure but that's all I got for now.

I learned that America is 49% producers and 51% takers, as long as the takers are in power I will do my best just to make enough to get by so I dont have to support all the takers anymore. maybe I will get me an obamaphone.

I learned that for so many people, if they complain hard enough and cry about an election lost... they can wake up bright and early next day and find everything going just how they wanted it..Because crying, moaning, yapping and complaining will work wonders.. ...Best part is, it won't be the result of PMS lol...I do kid on that by the way

Honestly, I've always been one of those inependent, not affiliated, voters, I still am. I vote for moderate republicans and moderate democrats, wishing to keep things close but in the middle. I have NO use for radicals on either side

However, this being said, I've vote for VERY few repubs in the last 12 years or so. They've gone TOO far to the nutbag right side. Women need to keep their reproductive rights with access to affordable and reliable contraception and the right to chooe. Same sex marriage needs to be granted the same rights as all other marriages. States need to be able to decide if they're going to allow marijuana sales. Those are the moral issues that mean a lot to me. Frankly, health care reform means a lot ot me as well. Obamacare isnt the answer, but it's better than nothing.

The fiscal issues... I don't know who's qualified to fix those yet. I haven't heard ANYONE come up with the right answer on that. It's probably going to involve raising taxes but it also needs to dramatically cut spending in a HUGE way. Neither party seems to want to do that and neither have suggested anything that makes any sense yet. No party has to be honest.

The republicans need to go back to doing what they have generally done somewhat well several decades ago... handle the budget. They've wasted SO much time on moral social issues, that they seem to have lost the ability to do anything but muck aournd in social issues very few people want them involved in.

Both parties need to move back into the middle-ish and start working together. If they can't do that... .we're SUNK.

I can agree with some of what you said. I definitely agree with gigantic spending cuts but not tax hikes. No amount tax hikes or even complete confiscation of all wealth is going to make a dent in the 16 trillion dollar debt. Along with spending cuts I have to agree with something along the lines of what Donald trump said during his mock run for candidacy... First, eliminate foreign aid to enemy territories like Pakistan. Second, enact real policy that says that if you want our foreign aid money you must agree to be obligated to pay it back, monetarily. If you disagree or renig then the supply is cut off indefinately or permanently which I assume would be circumstantial. Some of that may be my own but basically that's what I remember. Sounds fair to me. Otherwise we shouldn't waste all those billions. We are all about helping out but nothing's free. We can't afford to be every bodies savior.

That it has literally become an idiocracy in the United States. Especially California.

No that will officially happen when Jesse Ventura runs for president in four years. There are people already hoping for this. I shudder to imagine it.

2 things.

Blacks, latinos, and other minorities will always vote for the democrat. ( And it will continue since their numbers are increasing )

Since there are now more takers than makers, they will vote democrat aswell. ( And it will continue since their numbers are increasing )

I heard a somber Ann Coulter in an interview this morning, she put it the same way, as a result of this election America has reached a tipping point "the takers now out number the makers", conservatism is done in this country.

She may very well be right, as bad as it is now, as bad as Obama has been, with absolutely no record to stand on and still blew out a Republican it will probably will never matter who the Right runs any more.

We may have just witnessed the burgeoning of a one party system at least for the foreseeable future. And we are no longer a republic we have been successfully transformed in to something else ruled by a mob of leeching jackals and their enablers.

Oh good grief, you're SO wrong.

Had there been a MODERATE republican whose peers weren't spouting crap about rape babies being gifts from God, and thumping the bible and ignoring or outright dissing on the middle class, I might have voted republican. But, since they insisted on being so obtuse the last 12 or so years, I won't touch them. Bring the republicans back to talking about REAL issues like the economy, offering REAL detailed solutions about fixing the economy, talking about REAL and obtainable programs and I'l listen and maybe even vote for one but not until then. It wouldn't hurt them to talk about how they're going to get the entire congress and senate working together too instead of polarizing EVERYTHING. I'm done with polarization, I'm looking for TEAM WORK.

What did we learn during this election?

1.) The biggest point for me is the Tea Party. Republicans, the Tea Party is killing you. Distance yourself from them. I gained a lot of respect for the American people and a bit for the Republican Party as a whole for not electing/re-electing these morons. The worse thing they did was open their mouths. If you are a Tea Partier, please…keep talking in public…

The Tea Party crushed Republican hopes. Republicans thought they would do great in the Senate races but did horrible.

Akin lost horribly to a beatable candidate after his “legitimate rape” comments.

Richard Mourdock was defeated badly after his “all pregnancies are a gift from God” statement.

In Mass, Warren pounded the incumbent Brown after his campaign of personal attacks.

In the House…

Allen West appears to have lost his seat in Florida.

Michele Bachmann nearly lost her seat in the House, winning by less than 4,000 votes or 51% AND this is after making a run for President. (Edit:Putting this on hold for now. It is now 50-50 with Graves leading Bachmann.)

2.) 6 Billion dollars spent on this election and the results were nearly the same as they were 4 years ago…

3.) Saving the auto industry made a difference. Many do not agree with it, but those that were working in it and lived in the areas where the economy was affected would disagree. The auto industry gave Obama Ohio.

4.) Republicans need to take a different approach. This was their last shot. With the economy in the shape it is in, a high unemployment rate, and a soaring national debt, it was their election to win. Times are changing. They need to start catering more to gays, women, and minorities. They need to come back to the center and start working with the Dems.

5.) Fox News is always wrong ;)

But please, please, please, for the sake of America, get along and get things done. Obama is the President for another 4 years and cannot run again. The war is over. Work together and get things done so we can progress into the future.

You included one of the big things, that is the republicans are going to have to change their approach if they want to win because there are not enough of the people they are catering to for a majority. Another thing I have noticed the last few elections is that polls are more accurate than I thought. They have been really close to what happened in the last 3 elections.

They voted No on proposition 37. No on GMO labeling. It's funny, Cali is supposedly a predominantly "green agenda" state. People like that are voting! As a nation, we are in serious trouble.

There was no idiocy behind that decision. California has a large and thriving organic farming industry, GMO labeling would be detrimental to a lot of those farms. Money unsurprisingly beat out the agenda, like it could any place on earth.

I see prop 37 as rather moot. I do not see what it does...So what if something is genetically engineered? Does that some how make it bad? Genetically engineered is the same as genetically selected for, right?

Brassica, or wild mustard, has had traits selected to make cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, brussel sprots, turnips, rutabaga, kale, and more...

They selected specific genetic traits to make many different types of food...we consider all perfectly fine and natural...

I cannot say that it is the same. What I want to know is what mechanism is being proposed that makes it different in any way. Because really humans have been practicing selection of genes for as long as we have been agricultural.

Yes, except that I have some problems with Libretarians that are so glaring I can't vote for them in good faith. It's unfortunate to be honest. Because I do like a lot of what they'd like to offer.

Lets set aside for a second wether or not free market capitalism would be better for the country. Hut they dont align with what you believe at all. You are being played for a fool. These people just tell you what you want to hear then go on and do often times do exactly the oposite, if they do anything to address said issue at all. If you want a government that has any chance what so ever of actualy regulating the market, honestly making a level playing field, then every last Dem and Rep thats been elected (aside from a very small handful, and even them im not sure about) has to go. They are owned by the very corperations you speak of here. You cant take a single step tward freedom till you get that.

You didnt win anything today. You only stepped further into the illusion.

So what shall I do? Not vote? Who promotes my beliefs?

By blindsiding the Republicans that were focused on the economy, creating and hitting the weak points on the Republican platform. Like I said right out of Alinski. Sorry, I do not think I am familiar with MSM or at least that acronym

Oddly enough there was the Socialist Party listed on the ballot. I suppose someone should tell them that party already exists? And since you consider yourself a Constitutionalist, shall I assume you voted for Goode, the presidential canidate for the Constitution Party? Or did you do like everyone else and just vote Dem or Repub even though they may not match many or most of your views? Are you a hypocrite, or were you one of the 2% of people that actually voted for the party they believe in? If you did actually vote for that party, much respect to ya.

And doesn't your side fight to make it an issue also? If they were keeping it out of government they should take my stance and say its not their business to get involved.

No, my side does not have an issue with the government stepping in and correcting oppression and injustice. It happened for slavery, women's rights, American Indian rights, the right for inter-racial marriage, and now gay marriage. I believe it is the government's job to enforce the rights granted in the Constitution. We are not the ones saying government should not be involved.

What have I learned though...

As my first real run being heavily interested and concerned with politics for an entire four years of one president I have learned that it really take an emotional and mentally stressful toll on me.
