Are 2012 apocalypse beliefs dangerous ?

The danger substantially varies, depending on people's reactions and/or actions.

Human species fears being eliminated from their dreams of greed and lust nothing more nothing less. Grow up accept change, lie it down with a take it as it comes attitude, if your lucky enough to be included in anything that the universes has planned be grateful.

At the end of the day, why is everyone freaking out where's your "god" to advise you :S

But all seriousness, this is me at base and why it's my signature for the UM Forum. Why is everyone so concerned with the end. We all should be focused on the new beginning and worried if you even actually included in the grand design.

This has been the "bigger picture"'s main downfall, they are proactively barging their way into any new beginning to force that they will be included in such. No Corp, Religion, Oragnisation or Political "Super Power" will ever be able to achieve this because they lack the compassion to do so.

Meh I assume the apoc(or just me dying)could happen any day and I live accordingly making everyday as best as I can and going out and doing things I want to do instead of waiting forever.

I'd have fun working at NASA if I could the practical jokes you could play........

I don't see why it would blow anybodys mind that NASA had to do this.. think about it.. many cults have klled themselves before these events "predicted" events happen. If only they had waited another hourrather then killing themselves.. then they could have all laughed at their stupidity and the cult leaders. Anyhow.. i believe Natural Selection should occur.. let the idiots cull themselves lol >

Well, within 100 years everyone on this forum will be DEAD! Our own world's will end, some sooner some later.. But not at the same time. I'd rather worry about this life and my legacy, if it ends it ends but I'm not going to stop raising my kids and planning for the future. I'm 43. Reckon I'm just about half way through life's adventure :-)

Yes, these beliefs are dangerous. A couple plan on murdering their children, then themselves due to biblical, religious views. The Earth is over Six billion years old. Sometimes the weather/Universe is beautiful and other times s**t. Let's enjoy and not destroy it.

I believe this is the answer to most of our problems. Nature had the plan, we just sort of stepped in and screwed that up. If you think about it from a logical stand point, one could argue most of our problems would be solved if we just let natural selection take it's course. NASA having to inform people is pretty much proof that we should have left things take their natural course.

Imma pop me some popcorn and watch all these fools kill themselves over a false apocolypse... AGAIN...

Call me cruel if you want, I call it natural selection...

The world will not end in your lifetime. :)

What is the world....? Is it the world 'as we know it'? Or, is it the planet no longer able for life to exist? Or is it, the actual disintegration of the planet into billions of pieces?

If we are talking about the world 'as we know it'...it could end later this evening...or tomorrow morning...because in reality, all it takes is one Nuclear Weapon dispersed in an act of war. Pretend momentarily that a Nuclear Weapon was activated over Nebraska. A large part of the United States would suddenly be in the dark ages...no electricity of any kind. No batteries...no clean running water...and then, no running water...literally the dark ages. You won't be able to drive to the grocery store because your car won't run...so what will you do...in the winter with no heat, no food, no water...no phone, no computer, no music.

That could never happen right? I can assure you...at some point...it will happen. Tomorrow? Five years? Fifty years? It will happen. Could it happen on December 21st, 2012? It very will may...if Terrorists have a weapon...they do pick dates for effect you know...

...or am I just full of Paranoia....?

Anything 'can' happen, and to be prepared is one thing, even responsible.

To 'expect' that it will happen, is paranoia.

Edit: To relate a local experience. Remember Y2K? Twelve years ago a local guy built a backwoods bunker and moved his wife and young family onto it. He even convinced his younger brother and his smaller family into his plan.

Previously he sold everything he owned and turned it into fuel, generators, guns, bullets, water purifiers etc. They burned all their i.d.'s, birth certificates, passports... everything.

6 months later, after the world didn't end, they came back to civilization when their food started running out.

yeah...that was pretty dumb...and no doubt some idiots will fall into the whole 2012 paranoia as well...

I don't 'expect' to be hit with a Nuclear Weapon...it's only happened twice in the history of mankind ....but I do believe it is inevitable that it will happen...and with Iran furiously working toward that end...who knows?

Exactly, who knows?

I was born a few months after the Cuban Missile Crisis. Not knowing your age, why do you believe 'it's inevitable'?

I was born on July 9th, 1957. Remember when we were little boys and we had these tops that you wound the string around? And if you threw it just right it would spin for about 20 seconds or so on the driveway...remember? Think about the top, when it started slowing down, it got wobbly, and then very wobbly and then....scccrriiichhh...it would tumble chaotically across the driveway and land in the dirt.

The world is now in that wobble stage. It cannot ever build up momentum to spin like it once did. Corporations are leveraged against corporations that are leveraged against corporations, etc. Governments are leveraged against other governments, etc.

There are too many nukes, too many whack-jobs and a fat and stupid American populace. The world is ripe for carnage.

Joc, now I appreciate where you, and me (August 18, 1963) are coming from now.

I prefer to believe that we've learned since then. I see the world as less chaotic, not more so.

Less chaotic? Really? Let's recap history quickly just for grins...when we were growing up as kids we were all led to believe than Nuclear War was going to destroy the world. But it wasn't. That was a propaganda show. De'tante was in full force and only a few countries actually had nuclear capability. There were Nomadic Arabs all excited because drilling for oil in their desert was making them all filthy rich. There was no Jihad against the West.

Now...Everyone and there mother's brother has Nuclear Capability. China is rising...Russia is rising...The Drug Cartels are controlling the governments of South America...the dollar is falling...Global Jihad...Iran acquiring Nuclear Capability and threatening Israel's destruction...and...America has gone the route of Socialism that assures her destruction as a Super Power....

How exactly is the world less chaotic now?
