Robins left off SNH general licence list

Robins have been left off a list of birds that can be killed legally without the need for an individual licence to do so.

Scottish Natural Heritage has published the results of consultation on changes to general licences which allow the control of certain species.

SNH said there had been "widespread disagreement" among respondents about covering robins under general licences.

I do not know of, and cannot find, any new reason for control of robins, other than - like sparrows and starlings - they can cause problems in 'food premises'.

Birds that can be legally controlled (with permission) in the UK are - Feral pigeons, House sparrows, Starlings, Gulls and Black-backed gulls. The control of Blackbirds, Robins and Wagtails still needs specific permission in England and Wales though.

People leave a mess and it attracts the birds, so rather then cleaning up their mess they kill the birds.
