  • Mr Paterson claimed public concerns about genetically modified food were unfounded

Every steak served in British restaurants comes from cattle raised on GM crops, the Environment Secretary claimed today.

Owen Paterson, the Cabinet minister in charge of farming, spoke out in favour of increased use of GM technology in food, saying there were ‘real environmental benefits’.

He said the public were already eating GM food regularly, claiming most meat served in restaurants in London will have originated from animals fed in part on GM crops.

Is Genetically Modified crops necessarily evil? Might it actually be of value in increasing yield and reducing proneness to disease? Might this perhaps be something that friends of the Earth and Peengreace and all those people automatically knee-jerk Oppose, but (as usual) can never seem to come up with any suggestions of their own as to how they'd prefer things to be done.

Most of the meat served in our village pub (and Butcher's shop....shhhhh) has been modified by Bob Ward's 12-bore or Old Pat Hinchcliff's ferrets!

"Real environmentally modifying benefits."

Crops and steak already have benefits, and steak doesn't need to affect the actual environment...

If the meat is fine to begin with, it wouldn't need modifying.

So whats wrong with the steak?... Same goes for crops. Whats with all this genetically modifying agenda bs...

Well, since I have done tonnes of reading due to the fact that I found out I am gluten intolerant, yes, it is bad for us. We have been eating the same food for thousands of years. THEN in WWII, the governments wanted to have a higher yield and hardier drops-they genetically modified the grains. Now, years later there are more and more people with food sensitivities. With even more foods being modified, how are our systems going to react? Sure, they may not react severely, but, they may just cause way more problems than we are ready for. You just can't change food over a few years and think that everything will be OK. There is a lot of info out there to read. It is very interesting and worth your time if you have questions about it.
