Karlis Posted December 13, 2012 #1 Share Posted December 13, 2012 GEMINID METEOR SHOWER: Earth is passing through a stream of debris from "rock comet" 3200 Phaethon, source of the annual Geminid meteor shower. Around the world, observers are counting as many as 60 shooting stars per hour, a number which could increase sharply as the shower peaks on the night of Dec. 13-14. Wherever you live, the best time to look is during the dark hours between local midnight and sunrise. Visit http://spaceweather.com for sky maps, photos, and updates. sarah_444 Posted December 13, 2012 #3 Share Posted December 13, 2012 I saw 2 last night just before midnight. I hope the sky is as clear tonight as it was last night, I was happily surprised at how many stars I could actually see.

Left-Field Posted December 14, 2012 #7 Share Posted December 14, 2012 I just counted 10 as I looked up in about a 20-25 minute time span (around 1:30-1:55 AM EST). A couple times about 2-3 flew by quickly after one another. That was pretty cool. I may go look again before my night is over.

Professor T Posted December 14, 2012 #9 Share Posted December 14, 2012 I got up at 2am and saw maybe a dozen in 20 minutes.. One of them was slow and very bright.. It moved across a 1/4 of the sky.. Was worth the broken sleep..
