U.S. Fire Arms laws and regulations

Its akin to this. We are already armed. They already have erroded our rights. So do we let it continue by losing any means to defend ourselves. Or submit. Thats the quandry we currently face. Some people care about gun laws some have no care what they do with them. Theres a Black Market that will not go away ever. Porous border problems ya know. That keeps the legal honest gun owner invested in this . Evryeyone that wants to own an SK/AK/M!/M14/AR already does. Or will be buying it in the next couple days to weeks. There not gonna take the .223 ammo that works great in the AR which is a common ammo for hunting bolt action rifles. Its a *** cycle that has no remedy. .556 ammo is gonna roll off the shelves.

all of this because some kids hopped up on SSRI's whish are known to have the side effects to cause the type of crimes they comitted listed as side effects.

So I have chosen to be supportive of the legal gun owners and their right to own them.

cause and effect, vicious cycles, downward spiral. It has many names

It is a cultural thing, and if you live in a culture where guns are prohibited then any other way of living strikes you as strange and dangerous.

I'll take my chances in the US. I don't want to live anywhere else. Statistically, the chances of dying in a terrorist attack or rampage are vanishingly small. But people don't listen to statistics (if they did they would never play the lottery.) People see this orgy of media coverage 24 hours a day for weeks at a time and imagine that schools are slaughterhouses and that their children are in perpetual peril from maniacs in waiting. The biggest danger to the average kid comes in the car trip to the school. When the emotions are at a fever pitch, though, logic goes out the window.

Due to the fact that so many in the US were killed, including mass shootings.. My question is - What IF the head principal of the school had a gun locked away.. Later to see a mad gunman break his way into the school, so the principal takes the gun and just as the shooter has begun to shoot some folks on his way to a classroom, the principal blows him away.- How many people do you reckon would call this principal a hero for saving so many lives ?

A Note From Michael Moore

Sunday, December 16th, 2012

Friends,

I am truly beside myself this time. I tried to ring a warning bell about this a decade ago. The disease has only gotten worse.

But...you feel something different in the air across America tonight, don't you? People have had it and the outrage is loud and visible. I'm convinced the majority of Americans will now back strong gun control laws. And a better mental health care system. And perhaps a few are willing to look at the deeper issue of how this country officially sanctions violence as a means to an end.

The NRA, for the first time ever, has gone silent. They've taken their Facebook page down. They know they can't show up in Newtown next week and stick it to the people there, like they usually do after one of these mass killings. Let's face it, the gun lobby tonight is on the ropes. Now is the time to act. We can't let this sad moment pass without a true response and a president willing to be a strong leader.

I'll send some more thoughts tomorrow, but for now I thought I'd share with you what I've been sending out over Twitter this weekend. (If you're not on Twitter, please consider it. I know – not one more social media stop, please! But I've found it to be a quick and easy way to communicate with millions. Please give it a try. I send things out on it every day and I'd like you not to miss them.)

Here's my Twitter feed since the shootings on Friday:

CBS News reporting 27 dead at CT elementary school, many/mostly children.

Hoping, praying this isn't true. #schoolshooting

Only minutes away from pundits & politicians saying, "This isn't the time to talk about gun control." Really? When is that moment?

The way to honor these dead children is to demand strict gun control, free mental health care, and an end to violence as public policy.

Too soon to speak out about a gun-crazy nation? No, too late. At least THIRTY-ONE school shootings since Columbine.

19 years ago today was the FIRST Aurora gun massacre. Here's an essay from one who lived: http://mmflint.me/OOWJhi

Just 18 hrs ago, those Republicans in the Michigan House rammed thru a bill making it LEGAL to carry a gun into a school or day care center.

RT @Marmel Hey, @BarackObama - you know all those nuts that fear you're going to take their guns? You can take their guns now.

RT @mat: The gun lobby already hates Obama. I wish he'd give them an actual reason.

The NRA hates freedom. They don't want you to have the freedom to send your children to school & expect them to come home alive

A Facebook post from Mark Kelly: http://mmflint.me/U0XlUU

This morning a crazy man attacked 22 children at an elementary school- in China. But all the crazy man had was a knife. Number of dead? Zero

In addition to his two handguns, the killer in CT this morning used an assault rifle called The Bushmaster.

RT @ScribeHard @Burnman @AwardsDaily I never read a headline that said "Dozens of Children Dead in Hand-to-Hand Combat." Guns. Facilitate. Mass. Killings.

RT @peterbayley @MMFlint I didn't know you guys named your guns after presidents. How cute

RT @JDillon777 @MMFlint Sad to see that 'Bowling for Columbine' has gone ignored. Perhaps you should have directed Batman, and maybe they'd listen.

Hey NRA - why so quiet? Do you hear the rumble? The will of the people today? Coming your way. Think fast - the majority have had it.

RT @marlasuehale @MMFlint obviously that argument the NRA folks have been using doesn't work after all.

RT @CarlBrandt: @MMFlint Millions of guns in Switzerland, 24 gun homicides in 2009... http://mmflint.me/UKV4uP

Yes, it helps if you have strong gun control laws like in Japan: http://mmflint.me/UwPwTv

But Connecticut has one of the strongest gun laws in the U.S. So, 'splain that... http://mmflint.me/Z9qzoQ

I guess it helps if the State of CT doesn't shut down the mental hospital - like they did in Newtown, CT in 1995: http://mmflint.me/Z8ZfHk

But the killer's dad is a vice-pres of GE Financial Services (he's in charge of taxes). So he had the money for excellent mental health help

Yes we need gun laws & better mental health care. BUT even that won't stop the killings. Because, let's face it, America believes in killing

A country that officially sanctions horrific violence (invade Iraq, drones kill kids, death penalty) is surprised when a 20-yr old joins in?

I hate to say it, but killing is our way. We began America w/ genocide, then built it w/ slaves. The shootings will continue- it's who we are

The long term solution to reducing gun deaths is to change our society from one of perpetual war and fear to one of peace and tolerance.

The short term solution? A law immediately banning semi-automatic weapons & mega-clips. Must have license to own gun. Must pass mental exam.

Also, end the U.S.-sanctioned policy of killing: End the wars NOW, end death penalty. Stop banks and insurance companies from destroying ppl

It's all violence & it's all connected. Why does this happen only in America? The answer is right in front of u. And it's not just the guns. Yours, Michael Moore

Most of the shootings in my city are gang related. Our officials claimed for years we didn't have a gang problem until it became so obvious they couldn't deny it any longer. The police officers knew ten to fifteen years before gangs were acknowleged by the powers that be.

It does not look like it is most of it when you read the reports , fact is that your hometown had a violent crime problem for at least a decade with gang activity flaring up over the last three or four years, But we have to say that it does have a notable crime problem ranking in the lowest 2% for safety in the nation. (If you want to I'll PM you the links, as you have not put a hometown in your profile I did not link it here.)

By the way, the assault weapons ban was absurd. It outlawed things like bayonet lugs and collapsible stocks. Functionally identical guns were legal during the ban. Massacres like Columbine and the DC "Sniper" took place during the ban. Connecticut itself has a state assault weapons ban in effect. More than half of the gun laws I see, whether or not I agree with them, are equally absurd and nonsensical. Even people who don't like guns often agree with me on that when I explain the details.

Which just is one more argument for controlling guns from the time they are produced (imported) until they reach the end consumer and that the end consumer should have an obligation to report the loss and the sale of the gun or produce it when asked by the authorities. Failing to do so should lead to a (at least temporal) loss of his gun privileges. And estates should have to report who inherited the piece after the owner dies. That would make it much harder for criminals to obtain guns.

Wasn't the three main reasons for the Second Amendment

1 - As the founding fathers did not know what future government would be like, so they wrote the second amendment as an insurance policy for the people, so they cannot be ruled by any dictation

2 - For every citizen, to be able to defend the nation against foreign invaders

3 - Person protection against criminal attack

So I do not think that Obama or anyone else will ban the rights to own firearms

Please do PM me the links, thank you. Keep in mind I do have inside information from LEO that I personally know or related to, including a cousin who is the assistant DA, that will never be in the media and they have a completely different story. They've tried for more than ten years to get warnings out about these gangs to no avail. The city is more concerned about it's reputation than it is to make factual reports.

I don't ( for some reason ) think they will take your rights away, there is too much at stake if they do Like IE riots, more violence along with mad protests I have seen riots break out in the UK and in France for a lot less.. People want to feel secure and know they can protect themselves.. Ok not everyone will want to own a weapon, but a lot will

It wouldn't matter what US president was in office at present, he or she would still be under the pressure by the public... In saying that, I still cannot see them taking the rights away.. They may come up with something else?

I remember years ago, back when so many terrorists groups including small break away groups, were killing so many innocent people in the name of politics and religion.. I recall thinking - What IF we could defend ourselves? There was a time over here , when people used to fear going out at night.. So many feared ordering a taxi ( a lot of taxi drivers were shot dead back then ) .. Young lovers who would taken themselves off to the lakes, sitting in their cars were shot, along with.so many who had their homes broken into a killed by gunmen.. Fear was all around us in those days... I heard a number of people say - If only we could defend ourselves, we'd sleep better at night if we could ?

Yes Becky. especially on your first point. The Declaration of Independence pointed at just that and gave guidlines as to what constitutes tyrrany and Oppression of the people and the right to change that government if other measures fail and to do so by force.

Which then lead to it being written as the second Amendment and the right of every citizen to bear arms. Which has been mildly dumbed down since its original writing.

The fact that its the 2nd Amendment has some importance as it was a priority and easily decided upon item. Like the First Freedom of Speech...also having some issues. he 4th Amendment the right to be free from illegal search and seizure/monitoring etc is gone by backdoor Homeland Security Laws..and The Feds long ago erased the 9th 10th amendments the rights of the states to govern themselves and the fed to be responsible to the states not the other way around. So weve lost alot.

The bad thing is they will remove these rights like they did with the 4th amendment. Using backdoor politics. Currently the NRA has there back against the wall and seems to be willing to give up something to save something. They dissapeared for a couple days so obviously have taken the time to figure there best course of action. With a grandfather clause to assault weapons and 30clips your not gonna get much uproar from the gun community. hey already own there guns. If you think you may ever need an assault type gun id recomend getting one asap.

Never mind about getting an assault gun your in the Ireland I see.

Indeed I am :D

Any opinions I post on this subject are not biased opinions, although, I wouldn't be surprised if someone came on and said - "BM you are just saying this and that because you love your gun too much, you Americans sicken me"

To be honest, since approaching this topic, I made sure my opinions on gun laws were not posted.. I had to take time and read both sides of the argument .. I hold a general understanding for both sides

I personally fear guns, I have never held a gun in my life, but I know that others have grown up in different cultures and differ.. I have to admit, because I grew up in a place that the average Joe didn't bare arms, I would feel uneasy going to a home that had them .. I think it would take me some time to get used to it... But I didn't for a second allow my own personal views on guns get in the way of my understanding of those who do

I personally dont own a gun either but I see the erosion of civil rights and liberties. Which is more the issue then gun control. Gun Control is just the place where we lose the ability to do anything to protect ourselves.

My understanding is that most countries that have these gun bans the police also do not carry guns. That will not be the case here. And we aleready have a problem with that

I would link a few incidents of police on civilian killings over the past week but the list is too long. More then one full page of unique incidents.

The point is that the person who legally owned the weapon failed to secure it. And because that is happening more and more in the country (about 16,000 guns "disappear" every year through criminal acts or neglect) there is time to force gun owners to keep them controlled, not by the government but by themselves. The government should control compliance.

Because the gun laws have a flaw: They lack a controllable provision to force owners to secure their guns when not in their direct control.

I posted this in my feed. I took time to write it carefully.

This idea that banning assault weapons will prevent law abiding citizens to protect themselves makes no sense. When is the last time any law abiding citizen you know went to the movies, mall or school or work with an assault weapon? The only one who shows up in those places with them are the criminals anyway. So the argument that it offers protection is not true. The accessibility of assault weapons for criminals needs to be made more difficult. If they can't get them legally their evil fantasy may just remain a fantasy rather than something that can be enacted by a trip to Walmart or breaking into a gun cabinet in someone's home. It is illogical to suggest that these mass shootings would be prevented by allowing everyone access to such weapons. If a person came into the school to shoot, a regular gun would stop them. A regular handgun would stop them. There is no need for assault weapons with the ability to shoot massive numbers of rounds in seconds. The only people who seem to use them are criminals anyway. By limiting access, it makes it much harder for the criminal to get the gun.

he killed her and stole the guns, this is what criminals do they dont care about gun laws.

if she had those guns secured, and being aware that her son had Aspergers disorder it was criminally temerary not to do so, she would be alive and so would 20 children be.

I dont know that we know that she did or did not have them secured. That is a good question.

ConnecticutLaw:

No person shall keep or store any loaded firearm on any premises under his control if he knows or reasonably should know that a person under 16 is likely to gain access without a parent’s or guardian’s permission, unless it is in a location which a reasonable person would believe to be secured, is carried on the person or within close proximity, or is in a locked container.
