UKers Why the tiny refrigerators?

70 posts in this topic

I think my fridge currently contains:

I bottle wine

I litre bottle ginger beer (soda)

I litre bottle lemonade

Some cheese

Butter (well, buttery spread actually)

2 or 3 jars of sauces etc

Bacon

And a drawer full of vegetables

I've run out of milk ......

But living and working in a small town, I tend to shop on a daily basis.

That reminds me to do a stock take of my own fridge.

I believe I've got loose chips in the freezer compartment and I'm not talking ice.

A bottle of whisky on the top shelf.

What little vegetables we've got are in the meat section.

There's a complete dearth of anything that looks like it could be made into a meal.

We've also got the customary pint of milk, seafood sauce, grated cheese and some Lurpak.

Tbh your fridges content looks princely in comparison.

But we've getting a big buy-in on Saturday to compensate.

Saw this and love it

Wow, we could never eat all that could hold by the expiration date! That looks institutional size, but I've seen some large ones like that in homes, but usually half is a frig and half is a freezer. I can see stocking a large freezer.

You havn't seen where I've stored the absinthe.

I've got a heavy drinking spree planned if things go pear-shaped.

Btw I've spotted a frozen jar of Korma sauce and a loose Yorkshire pud.

If you can do anything with those two items it'll be some recipe.

Just mind your teeth with the glass splinters.

We have a refrigerator/freezer in the kitchen, one in the stockroom and a big upright freezer, but we entertain a lot.

That just sounds like a pain in the butt.

Why? I pass the supermarket on the walk home from work every day ;)

Edit: and I don't drive.

btw there's also half a tin of dog food, from when I was feeding the hedgehog before he hibernated a week or so back. Guess should throw that out!

Do you folks also have to buy a license to own / watch television ? Or is that just a silly joke that I'd heard ?

You have to take a test, actually. You have to know the names of all 32.849 pokemons, for example.

Only those who can be found! Living on a boat makes us exempt.

This may explain why American fridges have to be bigger.

Everybody likes a Ruby Murray.

It dosn't matter if your animal, mineral or vegetable.

I'll just fetch an ice pick from Sharon Stone so you can liberate them.

I'll have the Yorkshire Puddings for lunch and wash it down with battery acid.

True, but I know plenty of thin to normal weight Americans, and they all own large refrigerators. And I'll bet there are a good share of rotund Brits with small refrigerators too.

They're probably full of tofu and hummus.

That's because you don't put chips in the fridge.

Not true. I've got a standard size fridge with no hummus or tofu and I'm not a river hippo.

Hummus is yummy

Tofu not so much

Both can have their share of fat and calories though.

But I agree, frig size could be responsible for girth size, but it certainly isn't always the case.

For Americans it's often what we eat outside our homes-- fast foods,

He is a DD-prepper in disguise.

Did he buy his twelfth rifle at WalMart yesterday? Does he make you do odd middle of the night evacuation drills? Is his only radio channel welded to either Alex Jones or Rush Limbaugh?

Does he teach you his secret code-langaue, and show you his alternative escape-route and rendezvous point at a safe.house?

DD-preppers stock food that will last 6 football-team 975438 days and nights.

Nope that's true, its £145 a year and when you buy a TV the store/place you purchase from are obliged to inform the TV license comp, you even need one for owning any equipment that can receive live TV ie internet etc etc...but proving you watch TV online is another issue.

We've just been to Iceland's where mum's the word.

So we've got a substantial amount of party food.

If we lay a buffet on any upcoming guests wil be our friends for life.

I just love the storage capacity in the refrigerator.

I'm just hoping there's enough space in my stomach if the guests postpone suddenly.

Btw the British TV license is a bit of a catch 22 when it concerns the Beeb.

Big fridges are overrated. The fridge is where things go bad. I'm more likely to trust food in the freezer or the pantry.

A big fridge seems like an invitation to have food hidden in the back behind other food, slowly spoiling.
