Sugar conspiracy?

22 posts in this topic

Stevia is healthy alternative to sugar.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stevia

Plant from Paraguay.

Why dont we use it instead of sugar?

There is a lot of alternatives for many different things around the world. For example a Acre of Hemp produces more paper than a Acre of trees.... Its only logical what to use.

Kind Regards,

Nothing at all, LOL, I was just using your comments of me not knowing what sugar does to your body when you replyed to my post.

I advised there are many alternatives to many things we do in the world. for example my Hemp vs Trees above.

There is alot of things we should do, however for profit gain and agendas keep us from changing our ways.

Sugar is addictive and this proven. Therefore in a business sence. Its more logic to give the public something addictive in order for people to keep consuming the product.

Addicts keep coming back.

Kind Regards

Perhaps it's because we figured out a way to refine sugar in large quantities way before we figured out how to do the same thing with stevia. And we had more than one source for sugar refinement in cane, beets, corn, where stevia is just stevia.

And sugar had a byproduct early on that stevia does not- alcohol. I think the manufacture of rum helped sugar boost beyond other flat sweetener production.

I would have to dispute your effects of stevia L... At least in the form of a public ready sweetener. Yes, stevia can have those properties when they are taken in whole leaf form. However, what is being sold on the market as a sweetener does not have all those great things going on. It's a few of the specific sweet chemical compounds that are being extracted from the plant and refined. Kind of the same thing they do to sugarcane, but in a way more evolved extraction and refining process. Sugarcane in it's whole form has benefits too, but the sweet is processed out, leaving all the good behind.

I realize in culinary history, stevia has just as rich history as a sweetner as many other sources that are not sugar. I'm a honey fan personally, though I do like stevia in tart brewed teas. I don't necessarily think its a sugar over other sweeteners conspiracy. Give stevia some time and it will likely become another mainstream sweetener.

Its probably like most things, it should be used in moderation. Think I'll pass until more is known about it.

Don't know about today, but about 10 years ago the average american paid about 3 times the price for sugar than the rest of the world.

Conspiracy or not, the sugar industry, especially here in Florida, gets special treatment.

But your point is good--if there is a more healthy alternative, we should be using it.

I first tried stevia in the 1990s. It's been around as a sugar substitute that long, and I know people who've used it for YEARS ,and years, with no ill affects,at all.

This is the first I've EVER heard it has alleged side affects ,which makes me think its sugar company propaganda .

Don't get me wrong, sugar is my one and only vice ,and this seems like bull to me .

I know for a fact ,that many restaurants now only use truvia .

Stevia ,in the form of truvia ,has become a household item in the USA ,and is on the shelf next to the sugar ,at the supermarket .so..

Back in the old days, you had to buy it at the health food store in liquid form .

I personally ,do not like the taste .I prefer xylitol as a sugar substitute ,but raw sugar is probably the best choice ,in moderation .

Refined sugar is,what's bad for us,and high fructose corn crap .

I use raw sugar and xylitol . You can cook with xylitol .

Got academic research to support all of that?

As per memorial Sloan kettering cancer hospital, who publish nothing without research, say it has anti hypertension ,anti hyperglycemic ,anti tumor ,and anti arrythmic properties .

It can cause nausea and GI upset .People with low blood sugar, need to use with caution .
