Couple endure flesh-burrowing larvae terror

A GOLD Coast man and his girlfriend are living a South America nightmare, infected with rare flesh-eating parasites that could hatch into maggots and crawl out of their skin within weeks.

Bryan Williams, 28, and his girlfriend Ally Vagg, also 28 of Sydney, returned to Bolivia from a trip to the Amazon basin last month with what they thought were infected mosquito bites.

But when they started to feel something squirming under their skin and occasionally poking out of some open wounds, the couple made the horrific discovery that they had human botfly infection.

This isn't as rare as you think.

The same thing happened to this girl who was hiking through exactly the same area.

It's been a while since it's been broadcast but it could have been on Channel Five.

I was amazed by her courage in letting these horrid little creatures burrow inside her.

It's the ultimate in body horror and not for the faint hearted.

She didn't get the chance to get airlifted out of a clearing.

However she managed to get to civilisation just in the nick of time.

I wouldn't say these larvae are rare but an occupational hazard.

It really dosn't matter how big your scimitar is.
