Popular Post TSS Posted January 15, 2013 Popular Post #28 Share Posted January 15, 2013 It was actually through MID (mainly in PM) that I learnt again how wonderful learning is....I had next to no knowledge of Space when I first joined here, and despite the fact he had a vast wealth of knowledge he talked to me like we were on the same level (a great ability to have)...i'm gonna miss his knowledge, his posts, and humour. A great man. Condolences to all his family and friends.

Hazzard Posted January 15, 2013 #30 Share Posted January 15, 2013 MID was one of those extraordinary people that I couldnt get enough of. A friend and a "teacher" that I even talked to people about in my everyday life. We know what he was about, lets honor that by trying to follow in his footsteps. Eternal rest and peace, my friend.

Popular Post booNyzarC Posted January 15, 2013 Popular Post #33 Share Posted January 15, 2013 What horribly saddening news. My heart is heavy with this loss, but MID will forever stand tall in my memories. A great man whom I feel fortunate to have known. My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time, may they find comfort in the knowledge that he has impacted so very many lives in such a positive and encouraging way. You will be missed my friend, but never forgotten. You've left a legacy which has inspired, educated, and assisted. Rest in peace MID, and thank you for all the great times.

Popular Post Waspie_Dwarf Posted January 15, 2013 Author Popular Post #43 Share Posted January 15, 2013 I could have learned some wonderful things from him. I did learn wonderful things from him. I am saddened that he will teach me no more. The words of Rutger Hauer's character, Roy, in Blade Runner are running round my mind; All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain We are lucky that a few of MIDs "moments" will be preserved in time in the pages of this site.
postbaguk Posted January 16, 2013 #44 Share Posted January 16, 2013 This is so sad, I've grown to love MID's presence on this forum, a bit like a loveable "been there, seen it, done that" type whom we all learnt a little bit from every time he posted. Sadly, I'll never get to share that pint I promised him when I next visit the States. Forum will seem a little diminished without him. Another one of the good guys gone I'm afraid. RIP, MID.

theSOURCE Posted January 17, 2013 #49 Share Posted January 17, 2013 Another shocker. I always took MID's presence here for granted and thought he'd be around forever. We never exactly saw eye to eye, but I always respected him and found his knowledge an invaluable asset to this site. May you find peace MID.
Popular Post ChrLzs Posted January 17, 2013 Popular Post #50 Share Posted January 17, 2013 Over the last few nights I have been looking up at the crescent moon, with some sadness as I think of MID, but always with the usual tinge of awe - humankind went there!! But down here on terra firma, it is more important to acknowledge that the only reason we made it was because of people like MID. People with genuine knowledge. People with genuine skills. People with attention to detail, with determination, with old-school problem solving abilities. As I browse over some of the ignorance that gets posted on the Interwebz - the sort of stuff that MID fought with such passion and vigour here, I wonder if our society is losing some of those skills - maybe too many of us are now just sitting at computers and naively accepting ignorance, or thinking it is funny or cool to decry some of our greatest achievements.. Maybe I'm just getting old and grumpy.. I thank heavens there are places like UM where the good fight against ignorance can continue, where the real heroes of the 'space race' like MID (and all the others that made sure Neil, Buzz, etc actually get there..) can teach those who are willing to listen and learn. Thank you, MID - I learned much from you and your wonderful posts and passion (- and thank you UM for letting him call the odd 'spade' a bloody shovel.. ) When I finally get to have that cold beer with Psyche, it will be dedicated to you, MID. And I guess you are now free to roam, so when you carefully drop by the Apollo sites and look for yourself, can you do me a favour? Just scratch my name in the dust on one of the discarded Hasselblads - I know they are probably buggered by now, but I'd love to have one of them back here on my mantelpiece! Finally, to MID's close friends and family - be happy and grateful - you were privileged to know a great character. One good thing about the Internet - his contributions to this topic will live on forever. Catchya round, MID.
