strange accounts from mum

my mother use to live in India, and the people of India are very superstitious lot.

but my mother tells and retells us siblings of her experience when she lived in India.

The house she use to live in, had a huge, god know how old tree, a few hundred meters from the house. The tree was huge and tall and wide. the tree had many trunks. Mother said, that they could see right up the tree, and branches, all way to the top, therefore the tree has leaves, but not many of them. also there was something sacred about this tree.

Mother tell us that on some really late nights, a dozen or so lights appear on the branches of the tree. the lights were scattered, some on the bottom branches, some middle, some top, and so on, and that the light appears to be marching left/right from one branch to another. mother and the family did not want to know what would happen, if they kept watching, so they went to bed, and eventually went to sleep. in the morning, when they woke up the lights were gone. when i asked mother, what did the light looked like, mother said the lights looked like miniature candle lights.

No one dared to go to the tree at night. Mother tells us that, one night a truck driver from another state came and stopped his truck next to the tree, has he was about to urinate on the tree, he felt a tight slap on his face, and another, and another. even though it was pitch dark, but the truck light was on, and the driver could not see who or what was slapping him. out of fear he fled. after delivering, the truck driver came back the next evening and recognized the town and the tree. he got of to ask questions, but the people did not have answers... themselves were confused by it all.

Mother says that most of the town people believe small people live up that old tree. We say to mother "small people". mother tell us that her great grandfather was digging a well for the village, a long time ago. the great grandfather gathered a few men and started digging. digging took place very close to the huge old tree. the digging got so deep and one day in the evening the diggers were calling it a day and when all the diggers climb out of the "well", little people start climbing out too, and fled. gob smacked, no one knew where they come from, or where they went. mother's great grandfather use to describe them, to mother and others, being small people, roughly knee high, wore a piece to cover their genitals, and their faces and body were of human.

when mother tell us this experience, i believe mother tells us, not to make fun or try to scare us, i can tell by the way mother tells us this experience. but whither to believe the story it self, i cant say.

but has a similar experience happened anywhere else??

The light sounds like the description of the light of the moon through the leaves.

As for the truck driver? sounds like a myth. Stops in the pitch dark to pee against a tree, did the people watch him do this, how did they know what he did? as for coming back the next day after feeling in fear the night before and still being able to know the tree even though it was pitch black???

Do not think she is trying to scare you at all, just doing what elderly people like doing, passing down the myths and legends.

As I understand it, Mother said the lights looked like small candle lights, which moved a fair distance.

I asked the questions you have asked freetoroam to Mother... she said, the tress is off the road to a side a bit. The area in which the tree was/is, always been pitch dark, there never been any street lights/lights in that area, but for almost the rest of the town did have street lights/lights. So therefore the driver needs to use lights and other distinguish things, to navigate and locate himself. I guess the whole of his journey had street lights and many distinguishing things. Maybe from the light of the truck, he knew he was going to urinate on a tree, but could not see who was slapping him. As a driver he could have easily known in which town the event took place. So the following day, its quite possible that he recognized the town and the tree. He decided to ask questions about the event for the night before. It was only then the people got to know what had happened to the driver.

Mother also said that, she was there when the driver turned up. She heard talk going through the town about the driver and the event that happened.

I've been on a couple of islands and seen the same thing, little moving lights in the trees. This phenomena is so common that the locals don't think it's any big deal, but those of us from a Western culture have a had time believing our eyes.

Off topic here, but if "mum" is like "mom", then is "mummy" like "mommy?

If so, do they call an Egyptian mummy, mummy? Seems weird. But again, off topic.

I really do not know Simba Laveau.. But mother tells the events from me and my siblings being a very young age..

But I do remember mother reciting the events after something scarey happened, or when something scary happened somewhere in the world

Mother would recite the events during or after we watched a scary movie, or scary program on TV also.

I think mother knew we heard her telling these events many times before, but we would listen to her as if we heard it for the first time.

And the events always been spot on, as I recall the events did not change one bit.

But weither these small people were a one off chance spotted by our great great grandad in the 1900's in India, or has other people seen them all over India, that i do not know
