People assume everyone that gets lung cancer got it from smoking or second hand smoke and that is definitely not true. What do you think they are going to try and outlaw next? Fast food? Alcohol? Soft drinks? Sugary foods? Yeah, I hear you. I like to smoke when I "drink", and I would defend my desire to do so. But, I am an adult, and I do understand the health risks, so I do it with free will. Yet, as a smoker myself, I am not brain-dead as to the serious dangers of it. Having high blood pressure, smoking can certainly lead to stroke. Sure, some people have smoked all their life and never got lung cancer or such. Then, there are those whom have never smoked, or even been around it, and have gotten lung cancer(not many, but that is still in the medical literature) I don't know anything. What they don't tell you is that you do need some of everything, yes, imo smoke too, not saying cigarettes but we need a little exposure to everything to build up a tolerance to it. You take a child that's never been exposed to any allergens and you end up with an adult with severe allergies. I played in the dirt, drank water out of a hose and was around cigarette smoke all of my life, everyone smoked at my childhood home and heavily. I'm still here and I've never had cancer. I don't have any real health issues and I'm old. I do attribute it to exposure as a child and doing all the things that today's parents live in fear of. The reality is that some people get cancer from things, all sorts of things but you have to have a predisposition for it first. The key is moderation in all things and that can only be governed by you. I'm all for legalising cannabis, but this is nothing more than misinformation. Smoking or otherwise ingesting THC has literally no known health benefits, other than pain relief; it is only when chemically broken down and utilised in some fields of science that there have been noted benefits in areas such as cancer research. And since its use is for Native American religious ceremonies unless your participating in one one might argue your abusing the drug. But just smoking or vaporizing it gives you the same health benefits (cancer and loss of appetite being one) but in a less concentrated form. Im sorry Big Pharm cant have Marijuana. As far as I'm aware, smoking or vaporising it in no way has any effect on cancer. This is a myth. It can cause a loss of appetite but then this is not always a good thing. It causes an increase in appetite that is why it prescribed by the Medical Marijuana Programs as it decreases the side effects of chemotherapy. If your talking about a cure for cancer Id have to say no it doesnt do that. In general Marijuana only helps with side effects of ailments and does not cure them. I live in a Medical State btw. It puts money in the hands of criminals and organized crime, and it does little to stop people from using said substances. This has been proven over and over and over again when will people learn? Self control and independent responsibility, education and treatment are FAR better at curbing these problems. A year in prison for possessing 1mg of nicotine? I mean as adults, and able to (in theory) control the destiny of the entire country (by voting), goings to war (by Draft if necessary) and a mirriad of adult only rights, responsibilities and certain punishments can do or deal with these things I am relieved they will look out for me if I smoke, drink, and eat too much bacon. It is about control under the guise of looking out for you because obviously we, as non-politicians are too stupid to decide where we spend what is left, after taxes, our paychecks. Then i would have no chiice but to quit. i have tried to quit so so many times. I do not think my willpower is strong enough to overcome the withdraw stages. It sucks! I wish they were illegal and harder to get my hands on. I hate it that they are not. My mom quit 3 times in her life - once for 7 years. But eventually she developed lung cancer and died at 65. My sister tried to quit for years after mom's death and, after 5 attempts, she finally did it!! She has been smoke free for 7 years now. Keep trying - nothing to lose if you at least keep trying. I'll admit that smoking at a particularly tender age can lead kids to experiment more with illegal substances. All it takes is an innocent toke of Ganga and your hooked until you get to rehab. Whether this leads to heroin is open to interpretion. Though I think heroin is mutually exclusive to the lower classes. Cocaine though traverses all social strata. It dosn't matter if your top of the pile or hanging by a rope. What I'm trying to say is that cigarettes with the wrong type of peer pressure can turn you to illegal drugs. As for the more mature cigarette smokers already about they should have total carte blanche. Them and me are not doing anything naughty. We should march on the House Of Commons with placards bearing this image. I reiterate that cigarette smoking shouldn't be made illegal. I'm not standing for us skulking behind bike sheds like common criminals. I sincerely hope the situation stays like it is.
