seeder Posted January 29, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 29, 2013 Forecasters are predicting explosive intensification this weekend for an extra-tropical storm in the North Atlantic that is expected to eclipse the intensity of last October's superstorm Sandy. http://current.com/shows/upstream/94031558_monster-storm-expected-to-explode-in-atlantic-this-weekend-stronger-than-hurricane-sandy.htm anyone else notice its getting windy in the UK? Mr.United_Nations Posted January 29, 2013 #2 Share Posted January 29, 2013 Most fragments of Hurricanes do end up hitting the UK, but less and much more rain
Keel M. Posted January 29, 2013 #3 Share Posted January 29, 2013 How do they conclude that it will rival a category 4 hurricane when they state the winds will reach 98 mph and on the Saffir-Simpson scale, a hurricane with winds of 98 mph is only category 2 (95-110)? Ashotep Posted January 30, 2013 #7 Share Posted January 30, 2013 I think they are talking about the pressure at its center will rival a category 4 hurricane not the wind speed. They also say it doesn't pose a threat to land.
TheLastLazyGun Posted January 30, 2013 #8 Share Posted January 30, 2013 (edited) Ireland. Wrong on so many basic facts. The UK may be the windiest country in Europe, but it sits only eighth in the wind power league and generates less than 10 percent of the wind energy produced by world leader, Germany: http://edition.cnn.c...s2001/windiest/ The UK is the windiest country in Europe, so much so that we could power the whole country several times over using wind energy: http://www.uk-energy...ergy_facts.html Scotland has been named as the windiest country in Europe: http://www.bbc.co.uk...otland-15283013 Britain is the windiest country in Europe yet lags behind some of its more progressive neighbours when it comes to tapping into the energy potential of this resource: http://www.edie.net/...nd-power/16190/ Wind is not something the UK is short of. In fact, we're the windiest country in Europe. We're the world's eighth largest producer of wind energy; it's our second largest source of renewable energy, with the capacity to power 3.3 million homes: http://www.guardian....lown-off-course What is the windiest country in Europe? ... According to CNN Europe, it is the UK: http://wiki.answers....untry_in_Europe Ireland is the second windiest country in Europe: http://www3.ul.ie/en...ide/energy.html Edited January 30, 2013 by TheLastLazyGun
