Ok. Who the hell elected these people?

If this this passes, whats next? Having people who ID them selves as LGBT wear badges?

I guess some would love that.

Some of these kids are suicidal because of the pressure of their situation. And a suicidal person needs some understanding and support, not an additional pressure to worry over. Being able to confide in a trusted teacher might be the last or only lifeline they have. Sad.

Being a teenager is hard, mainly because we've had no practice at it. Teenage suicides do happen. Just thinking about parents of a gay child being intolerant and not loving just makes my blood boil. That's about the worst sin I can imagine.

I guess this is just going to be another reason why there is such a bleak outlook for our future generations.

If only you could just click your fingers and make these ignorant, selfish bigots disappear...

A wish shared by about 1000 generations. At the end of the day they were always there to hamper human progress.

of course, since no country has ever made a certain minority wear badges/etc to single them out to no good end

Ohh but "we all know that little Billy wouldn't bully anyone, he's so kind and gentle - you're slandering him by saying that and we'll sue!"

And words to that effect.

The parents. And Lord only knows what they'll do. The reaction'll range from acceptance, verbal abuse, ostracision, physical abuse and murder.

To be fair, it can also lean towards the parents being able to help. Many children do not realize that parents have wisdom and experiences that they understand.

I'm not saying this would be a good law. Just pointing out that all parents are not abusive monsters.

True, but the point is the state is essentially taking away children's rights to seek information/help from someone they may trust without that trustee being legally obligated to tattle on them.

If the kids don't want their parents to know that's their business, not the state's.

Surely being a teacher should be similar to being a Priest, in terms of confidentiality at least.

If teaching was anything like being a priest, trust me, I'd pick a different major.

Ok......so? Let's just say for giggles, I'm gay and I'm in Tennessee and someone reports me......to whomever is supposed to have this sort of thing reported to them? What's this person going to do? Pray for me? Lay hands on me and drive out the evil demon of homosexuality? What is it that they want to do once they "target" some gay person or lesbian?

Being gay is simply a function of who you are......sort of like being right or left handed or having blue or brown eyes. Hell, in my little back water, po-dunk high school in rural South Carolina in the sixties and more specifically within my own class we had/have eight gay persons. Six male and two female. (please let's don't get all bogged down in correct terminology, Gay/lesbian). Out of a graduating class of one hundred thirty-seven. Granted, I was surprised at a couple of them, but that's really neither here nor there. Had anyone come out back then in that place, at that time, I can assure you someone might have gotten bashed. Hey, rednecks, we had them then and they're still around, ok?

So? What is to be gained by reporting them?

give 'em a gun?

Sadly, the people who put that law forward most likely felt they were completely doing the right thing. To them, they probably thought they were correcting a problem.

Aye.... like the Wannsee Conference. So many problems and so few solutions.

The past has seen passing laws that sounded good to replace what worked.

They probably have a gay/lesbian son/daughter/niece/nephew and didn't like being blindsided both privately(personal life) and publicly(political life) so they took steps to get informed without thought to how the child will feel.

That or they're in denial about their sexual feelings. I recall, back in the eighties or early nineties someone did a study where they took guys who'd been convicted of "fag bashing" and tied a sensor onto their hoo-hoos and then showed them porn. The hoo-hoo sensor detected when "Mr. Happy" reacted to the porn being shown. All the guys had a positive reaction to gay porn, which created and revulsion within then and as a result of their own revulsion to themselves led them to take it out on open gays.

Hey, back about ten years ago there was a Senator who was a huge opponent of gay legislation who got caught doing the toe tapping in an airport men's room. He was gay and his public reactions were so strongly anti-gay in order to "cover" himself. Humans are a strange species at times, especially when you consider that when you plot us on a Bell Curve you discover that there are relatively few of us who are 100% gay or 100% straight. The vast majority of us fall somewhere in between. Now that doesn't mean that just because you have thought about gay sex you'll jump the fence and give it a go any more than it means a gay person might jump the same fence in the opposite direction and give the straight thing a try. Although, I have known of gays and lesbians who do that very thing.

The only thing any of this means is human sexuality is way more complex than being one way or the other. I have a friend who went to see a shrink because he found that when he was having sex with his wife, he was fantasizing about having sex with a man. When he told me about it he said he'd never had sex......that is real sex with a man and didn't really want to, but he still had those fantasies and thoughts and it bothered him. I recall my only serious thought on it was, "Wow, if I was married to your wife, I seriously doubt I'd be thinking of a man while getting it on with her." However, the mind goes where it goes and we like what we like. Why?

My only thought or theory is that something happens in vetro when we are forming to our chemistry or our mental pathways and we take on certain characteristics. Same sort of thing would explain pedophilia, Sadomasochism, a desire to be tortured or getting pleasure from pain and any number of what we would normally call deviant sexual behaviors. Thing is, there is nothing that can be dome to "fix" something like this. If you're born gay, then you either need to embrace it or live as a straight person and I think that before too long you'll start manifesting some other personality disorder brought on by suppressing that part of yourself.

I could go on for days on the subject, but I've pretty much said what I think I wanted to say.....and then some. *sides soap box back under the bed*

What's that? Preventing the spread of 'gay cooties?' Go back to kindergarten.

I agree. Probably a case of not expanding and researching all that it will affect.

Perhaps there was a case where a gay teen killed himself and the parents found out after his death. They were not given the opportunity to help him/her. Just saying that it could be a scenerio to back this proposed law. However, if you throw the negatives of the proposed law into the mix, then it doesn't seem like a great idea.

And reporting this is going to do what now?..smh

Let kids be kids and let them deal with their personal life on their own,if they really need somebody to know parents would be first, not teachers this might cause more problems at school for them, who knows. This is just a bad idea in my opinion.
