What I'd like to know is, if it's not going to the goverment (the money), then why is it called a tax? That's beyond bizarre if you ask me.

Exactly right!

The "tax" is sophistry by Mr. Justice Moneybags, nothing more. Talk about an activist judge! Good heavens, nobody in the legistlature proposed it as a tax, but the judge does. Hogwash and spin, to feather the nest of the insurance industry, to whom, apparently, Mr. Justice Moneybags is beholden.

The collateral damage from this will be catastrophic if what I read about it is half true.

When grabbing for power collateral damage is just a means to an end. It's expected, accepted and necessary. The ends justify the means.

I think that in the final analysis, this shows that Obama is not a socialist, because this program does not redistribute money to the people as socialism would do. No, this takes money from the people and redistributes it to the insurance industry. That looks like fascism to me.

Hey BM...Do you pay $20,000 for health insurance? Is that a quarter of your income? Do you have a mortgage? Pay for gas, food? You're raising at least one kid. Here, we had about 30million that went without healthcare because of cost. Now, 315,000 won't have the cash to live on but those 30million will have coverage.

Not really...it doesn't do that at all. You aren't seeing the scam for what it really is...The scam is thus: put the insurance companies out of business. No one will be able to afford to pay the outrageous premiums...(by design)...so they have no choice but to opt out and pay the tax...because the ##Profanity EDiT^^ at the Supreme Court called it a tax, that is what it is and you WILL pay it! But the thing is...if you aren't buying insurance...and you won't be able to afford to...then the government will have to step in and...do what? Bail out the Insurance Companies...mmm..hmmm...wallah...nationalized healtcare...single payer...see how they get there? The Government then becomes the insurance company...they decide what doctors get paid, what doctors can charge for and how much, where doctors can work and where they can't. Get it?

I'm disagreeing wholeheartedly! Obama is a communist! You are right about one thing...he is forcing millions of new customers on the Insurance Companies, which will be forced to pay EVERYTHING for all of them. Remember, no Pre-existing Conditions? Gone! The Insurance Companies are going to be forced to pay for it all...they can't...they won't...most will go out of business...the only one's that are left will be the one's that 'are too big to fail' and they'll be 'bailed out' and Nationalized.

You seem to think this is all about Obama...nothing could be further from the truth! Obama is a tool. This is all about Russia my friend.

This is the projected end result. So it hasnt happened YET. But I read the same thing. Still not gonna call it fascism though.

You could not be more wrong.

When negotiations began to create what we call Obamacare, Dennis Kucinich was still in Congress.

The record shows that Obama quickly abandoned the "Single Payer" version, which might very well have put the insurance companies out of business. Kucinich and others pointed this out, and it was all over the mainstream media. Obama abandoned the single payer scheme in favor of basically what we have now--a mandatory insurance scheme.

Russia??? :innocent:

Obama is dancing to the tune called by Wall Street, and that's why they gave him so much financial support in his first campaign.

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with Obamacare or not. If you have your W-2 from 2012 handy pull it out and take a look at it.

Look at box 12d. It is labled DD$(some dollar amount).

Appearantly this is the amount that your employer contributes to your health plan if you have one.

If the IRS starts treating this as taxable income we are all screwed. That will throw many people up into a higher tax bracket and most people will owe the federal government rather than receive a refund.

I looked at my previous W-2's from previous years and box 12d was never filled in.

The corporate view and cadillac wellness programs may very well get taxed down the road. It's a bad joke! The wellness programs put cash in some employees pockets by participating in health coach program but are not paying for needed medical care of the individual they are claiming as an expense! Company says the wellness cost me over $8000 their share and is a dollar amount shared equally among all FT employees. If an executive wants to participate he can go to the health spa for free, cash added to payroll and network sales. But I got a whole $100 for getting my chloestreol checked.

This is how it is guys! Obamacare brought some more transparency to light if nothing else. https://ecoms.ebglaw.com/rs/vm.ashx?ct=24F76F1DD5E60AEDC1D180AEDB2B9510DEBE7BB3D38714DD4CF371647BF8D90DDD78033

it's already taxable income. Geez. You don't get health insurance for free.

FYI Corporations have been claiming that for years before, they just never had a law tell them they had to show it to us until now....

Hey BM...Do you pay $20,000 for health insurance? Is that a quarter of your income? Do you have a mortgage? Pay for gas, food?

Yes I pay out $20,000 for health insurance... Yes it is a quarter of my income.... No mortgage, I own it Yes I pay for petrol and food.. You forgot to ask me to I pay for SKY TV too. in which case yes I do, and my broadband..I also buy lottery tickets

Now if you had of bothered to actually read my posts, you would understand that we in N Ireland and in the UK do not buy separate health insurance.. We pay a quarter of our income to income tax and national insurance together.. This automatically comes out of our pay cheques every month The national insurance part goes towards medical care.( NHS ) ..This means we do not ever have to worry about medical bills .. You get treated in a hospital, you do not get a bill handed to you afterwards, that is what national insurance is for.. It makes lives easier...

My previous posts clearly read..

It depends on your income and your circumstances Asteriod .. Everyone differs depending on the amount of earnings we make ... Example - Say your monthly income was $2000, your national insurance would approx $160 Again it all depends on on your circumstances, and your earnings each month, whether you are married, widowed, single and so on .. I have never had a monthly pay slip that made me feel I paid too much each month for National Insurance It makes it all easier

You could find yourself in a road accident, and badly injured, but still can make it.. You and your family wont worry about whether or not you have insurance that will cover your treatments..It is all taken care of Everyone employed throughout the country are paying their National Insurance.. Those who are slef employed have a fixed rate to pay for National Insurance. I can't imagine laying up in hospital and someone handing me a massive bill.. That would be alien to me ..

National Insurance pays for your healthcare, but the main part pays for your state pension for when you retire ... It is not calculated on your health or lifestyle

And for some mad reason you fired those silly questions at me..*sigh,* if it doesn't rain, it pours !!

I think I remember hearing Obama make a comment to the effect that the final end was single payer insurance. I'm pretty sure I did hear him say something like that.

There are two ways to take a country socialist. There is the honest way -- buy out the private interests, and there is the way always used -- create laws that make it impossible for the private companies to function and then take over saying that someone has to do it.

no that is for your policy, now you'll pay a lot more in taxes for other ppl policys, and no one cares if you can't afford yours, you still have to pay theirs,

The last thing you said, good point and is exactly what many of us see down the line for healthcare. They're gonna screw things up so bad that no person or business is going to want or be able to comply and then they'll step in with the big solution. We are government and we are here to help!
