brainiac Posted February 12, 2013 #53 Share Posted February 12, 2013 (edited) Wow! how cheap keeping that pet but since he is a scavenger I think what he is looking for is a rotten meat not fresh. Edited February 12, 2013 by brainiac
Odin11 Posted February 12, 2013 #54 Share Posted February 12, 2013 if this is a deep water creature ( http://www.seasky.or...ant-isopod.html ) perhaps the pressure difference between the tank and where it is suppose to live is effecting it. I don't see a zoo being able to create the pressure needed in a zoo environment. I went to the Toledo Zoo last year. And I'm 90% sure that they had pressurized tanks in the aquarium for deep sea animals. So they can create the pressure needed.
mysticwerewolf Posted February 12, 2013 #55 Share Posted February 12, 2013 (edited) it was just a thought, but it seems to me that if they are rubbing it's nose in what they think it eats then there can't be full time pressure for 100m ( 300+ feet ) it would live in but i am not up on the tech needed to create this pressure and so am just gussing. WoIverine Posted February 12, 2013 #56 Share Posted February 12, 2013 Obviously they aren't capable of getting his environment right, so release him before he starves to death. A good question would be, has he EVER eaten much since they initially captured him? If no, then the solution is obvious.

Yeah they don't have the tank it's in under pressure. I was just saying that they do have the tech to do it.

didymusclairvoyant Posted February 13, 2013 #60 Share Posted February 13, 2013 http://en.rocketnews...ng-such-a-jerk/ A giant isopod at the Toba aquarium in Mie prefecture , Japan ,has been on a hunger strike for 4 years. No one knows why . The aquarium has played with temperature ,to coax it into eating . It rubs its face in food, but doesn't ingest any . It hasn't eaten since 2009 Staff is quite frustrated . Personally ,I think its protesting Abe in office .... ,or just AKB48 in general http://www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/A-War-You-Cannot-Win-lyrics-All-That-Remains/0727F472E68B0C8148257AB100049AA3

But they do have more than one .It's just this one, that won't eat .
Asadora Posted February 13, 2013 #62 Share Posted February 13, 2013 But they do have more than one .It's just this one, that won't eat . Maybe the little feller is grieving and that is why he won't eat? There are many reasons as to why he isn't eating, but if I was living in captivity in a strange environment and not used to it, I would grieve and just be too sad to eat. Or maybe he is lonely and wants a companion. Such a sad little story:/

Simbi Laveau Posted February 16, 2013 Author #64 Share Posted February 16, 2013 someone contact the animal service agencies at japan by email poor animal.im going to to that by email I'm assuming this is a joke..... They do love their marine life, but ummm, they also slaughter it for no good reason . If animal agencies allow whaling and the dolphin slaughters in Taiji ,this is just one poor pill bug. No one will care.
