AsteroidX Posted February 9, 2013 #4 Share Posted February 9, 2013 I believe the Mayan form of Rugby was the original and obviously had the most on the line for individual teams. http://www.socialstudiesforkids.com/articles/worldhistory/mayanballgame.htm
Sakari Posted February 9, 2013 #5 Share Posted February 9, 2013 (edited) as old rugby player I only have this much to say: American football is the sissy version of rugby. If that is true, then why do Rugby players not come and play in the NFL and show is all just how tough they are? Multi-Million dollar contracts? Wait, a few have, as Kickers Edited February 9, 2013 by Sakari

Bonecrusher Posted February 10, 2013 #8 Share Posted February 10, 2013 (edited) when comparing british football ive always liked the expression, football is a gentlemans game played by brutes, rugby is a brutes game played by gentleman lol Does that include the northereners who play Rugby League. Where I live it's a massive hotbed when it comes to this code. So by gentleman do you mean the ones educated at Eton? Because some of these Rugby Leaguers are big bruisers with gruff northern accents. I can assure you this scene is more real ale then Pimms. Though I'm not disputing the fact they are gentlemen in the traditional sense. They could have more manners than their Rugby Union counterparts. ChewiesArmy Posted February 11, 2013 #9 Share Posted February 11, 2013 why have americans not joined rugby, because they play american football works both ways. there not gunna play pro for another sport Different cultures and because the NFL is a more profitable sport for the players. As for the NFL being the "sissy version"... Rugby is a tough sport; NFL is a violent sport. I think the lack of padding actually makes rugby safer then the NFL.
